Obviously not taken with less than 10 minutes to go wit the Nix winning as you still have your top on, BNUgrrl !!!

I'm slightly disappointed!

That was before the game...and no shirts came off at the end either, sadly, cos that was away game in  Brisbane. We slunk away

But of course tonight will be a different story!!!

Skatalites are playing WOMAD this year!..march 12-14 in the 'naki. Seen them twice before, first time in London '99 probably the best show ive ever been to. And Phoenix City should definitely be the clubs anthem...would be awesome to see the Offbeats play it before a match (as long as they didnt speed it up a turn it into some cheesy ska-punk rubbish )

In fairness to the club I have heard Phoenix City playing on the concourse before the last two home games. Always a good omen.

I would still love to hear it inside the ground though. Right before kick-off would be perfect but it would also be great for a little dance at half-time or straight after the final whistle.

And yes, The Skatalites at WOMAD will be great, as always.

it would be much better than the crap that was played last week, particularly before the pens - our singing was better. Also like ring of fire and the whoa-o song

For what its worth I emailed them on thier (the Skatalites)  official site and asked if they can do a shout out to the Phoenix when they play at New Plymouth
We really need this song to be the unofficial official Yellow Fever anthem (IMHO that is)
Like the idea of the Offbeats doing it and they would be very respectful
Who knows, maybe get some new Ska written for matches - have this ongoing chorus for a song "Who are ya" bouncing around the roomy interior of my otherwise spaciously empty carnium

The new season is not far away so it's time to get back into the swing of things.

Here's a version I don't believe we've had posted before...

Now don't get me wrong because I thought Tony P was alright but...

This new boss man Mr Nathan, he really looks like a traditional moonstomping Trojan skinhead to me. He looks like someone who's got the Spirit of '69 so I'm hoping he is going to really big up Phoenix City and get rid of that f**king foul Dario G disco sh*t we mostly have to listen to.

The big boss man Mr Nathan...

A couple of traditional Trojan skinheads...

And here's a recent jam by the current Skatalites line-up - Phoenix City. Good quality video too.

Such a shame we are now down to just two original members - Lester Stirling and Lloyd Knibb.

a Womad hilight - though they failed to do a shout out for the Nix

It's at times like this you need to get back to basics.

Not sure if we've had this version before. It's nice anyway...

Bump.

The start of the season is in sight so it's time to resurrect this thread.

This is a nice version by The Dixo W**kers!

The Dixo w**kers - Phoenix City

This them back in the 80's. They are older in the video!

We may not agree on many things T-X but this should be the lead out music every week.

OK, I am re-launching for the umpteenth time my campaign to get Phoenix City adopted as the offcial match-day tuneage of the Wellington Phoenix (and occasionally playing it on the concourse on the way in doesn't count).

New owners, new CEO, new hope that common sense will prevail.

Rob, Gareth, Domey - hear me roar.

Walk-on music, half-time music, advertising jingle, whatever, let's just have it. It's only the most-fucking-obvious-thing-to-do-ever.

Whoa!

Totally overwhelmed by all your support guys!

Nix management are going to find it hard to ignore a tsunami of people power like we're witnessing here.

Some nice new footage up on Youtube of Australia's The Strange Tenants doing Phoenix City back in 1983...

And while this website does actually suck harder than Frankie's humour detector but can the new one please please have embedded video too. Super cool!

I've probably posted this one before, and it's only audio, but I love this version. The Les Miserables Brass Band do a basically brass only version...

Phoenix City - one of the most loved and covered ska tunes of all time. Surely it deserves more prominence in the Phoenix matchday experience??

I remember Strange Tenants well. Saw a number of their gigs, along with other Aussie ska scene bands of the early 80's like Leftovers, F troop, Itchy Feet, Allniters, No Nonsense and the Porkers. Good times.

If it's nearly the start of the season then it's time for the annual campaign to have Phoenix City become an integral part of the match day experience - preferably played before the start of the game, or maybe at half-time...

I've posted it before but this is a brilliant version. Do yourself a favour and watch it!

If the Auckland game was a week earlier, you could have had The Skatalites play it live for you.

Okay, I get the fact that you like the song Term-X, but besides having Phoenix in the title, I'm not sure why we should be adopting it.

If that is the only criteria, there must also be plenty of other songs out there which have the word Phoenix in the title or lyrics.

to be fair, it has a suzaphone too...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

The very least they could do is play it on the walkway as you walk into the stadium again.

Actually it dates way back in the early years when the stadium dj always used played it in the run up to game time.

Classy tune....skatallites still rocking the aisles!
