I'm a rugby nut, who has gone to 2/3 of the Phoenix games and thought the atmosphere the crowd generates is superb.

However, the repeated "stand up for the Phoenix" garb, unfortunately mirrors what we have to put up with in Rugger matches with repeated Mexican Waves going around the ground when there is all sorts of action on the field.

Time to retire that one Yellow Fever folk - thought you'd be the last ones to come up with something like that.

Go the Nix!!!!

Its probably just as much when its done during the game that doesn't make any sense to me.

Probably a chant/action that should be  once a game thing - not half a dozen times....

I know you fever boys have barred the wave and will sort out any riff raff which startit up - which is a good call, but this "stand up" rubbish is of a similar veign for sure.

It especially sucks when people sing it without knowing the tune to "Go West"...

please make a list of chants that you think are acceptable, and Feverish will make sure that only those ones are sung at matches.

Make sure that you put them in the order that you want them done.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

thats what i hate - no matter how many times you tell people - they dont seem to get the tune.

I cant say that we do this chant more than twice in a game.

Disagreed. Stand UpFor The Phoenix is one of the 2 chants/actions the whole crowd gets involved in

'Stand Up' chants are great especially when you actually get other sections of the crowd to stand with you.

Three for me, and two for them.

easy solution to the people not knowing go west thing. it needs to be obviously started with a "stand uuuuuuuuuuuup" as opposed to "stand up". Everyone knows the song, I just don't think they realize when we do the quick "up".

If that makes any sense.

It also requires a sneaky additional half syllable in 'Phoenix'. I cringe and have sat down on principle, but at the last game people were singing it far better than all previous times I have heard it.

FFS how hard is it?

Its sung as a challange to the rest of the crowd that for a brief moment when they stand up they can be as big and clever as the Yellow Fever.

Therefore it stays.

My main problem with it is when we do it the play always breaks down or there is a foul. Imagine if we scored while it was happening.....

I put a 1000/1 odds on that happening, and 999/1 that we actually score. LOL

It happens every time I've seen it sung, at least for 30 seconds or so.

An alternative to "Stand Up for the Phoenix"...

Here is the tune for those who don't know it...

Are you ready,
Are you ready,
Are you ready,
Are you ready,
Are you ready for the time of life
It's time to stand up and fight,
It's alright, it's alright.

Hand in hand we'll take the Fever Zone
To the Aussie land
One by one we're gonna stand up with pride,
One that can't be denied.

Stand up stand up

From the highest mountain valley low,
We'll join together with hearts of gold.
Now the children of the world can see
There's a better place for us to be.

The place in which we where born,
So neglected and torn
A part.

Ev'ry woman ev'ry man
Join the Fever Zone of love,
Stand up, stand up, stand up,

Ev'ry body take a stand,
Join the Fever Zone of love,
Stand up, stand up, stand up,

You will have to be careful, it may turn into this quite easily, much like the Go West debacle.

How about trying another chant to the tune of Go West so people get to learn the tune and then try again with Stand Up. For example "1-0 to the Phoenix" (might be a while until we can actually sing that though) The problem at the moment is that there seems to be a hardcore who have the wrong Stand Up tune stuck in their head and it drowns out the few who are getting it right. I noticed this at Napier where I could hear the correct tune but a few guys behind me were drowning it out with the wrong tune.
