Terminator X has brilliantly suggested Phoenix City as the (un)official Yellow Fever song.

Yay or Nay?

No song. Drums!!! Brazilian beat or something!

OMG that's awesome - people will pick that up really easily and its very distinctive.  Got my vote.

--edit--
Oh and btw - the 'music' should be us singing it (like in that video) - we dont need the speaker system or anything to carry that tune.

WOW - anyone looking for a distinctive chant would go a long way to find something better than that - its even got the name! Plus its dead easy, and the Skatalites are legends!

And if you wanted a beat underneath it to hold it all together you'd need to do is clap on the beat. I think thats what the crowd is doing on utube and it sounds great.

As per my other post - that clip is actually a pretty ropey version. I prefer this one by Japanese band the Ska Flames because the vocalist is dropping in "Phoenix City!" in all the right places:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctgmpi5CmmE

You can also listen to (or buy) the original Skatalites version from the excellent Soul Jazz records site (it's on the Studio One Rockers album):

http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/releases/?id=176

Or you can buy a couple of different versions on iTunes (search on "Phoenix City"). I recommend either the 8 minute live freak out version by The (current) Skatalites, the version by Symarip or the version by Judge Dread.

Great catchy tune.....You could start by playing a minute or so... turn it down and let the crowd take over

Use the one they come out to at halftime. What was that called?

Rude Boys and Girls, Phoenix City it must be.

Have to agree...music not needed. We'll have 2000 Human Beat Boxes in the Yellow Zone.

Anyone got a trumpet to start us off and keep us in rythm? It would be awesome if it works.

Its no longer a problem.

This was nominated & seconded months ago, Terry obviously chose to ignor what the fans want, and chose to get a chuffing noisy group of hippies in, to bang drums and drown out the paying support.

Play Phoenix City as run-out music, then keep the singing and chanting going for 90 minutes. The drummers will soon get the message!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I agree. "Phoenix City" is a great song, I'd love to hear it at the stadium, maybe a few minutes before they run out, or only as a brief run out song. Maybe at half time

Magic. That song must be played at the start of each game. The atmosphere could become like one big dance party.

I won't lie, I was very disappointed not to hear Phoenix City...

So admin have we had feed back from the club, will we get "Phoenix City" as a run on record?

I don't think we need a phoenix related song, but I do like the song in question. Just a random one that comes to mind would be the gooners coming out to 'right here right now' by fatboy slim (if i've got that right)

GUYS! what about "Walkin In Light" by Dave Dobbyn and Th' Dudes, good Kiwi song, most people know it (should know it) and chorus would be good to chant after goals or when their on the attack.

I thought someone had posted that one before, looking around the clip I was thinking of was posted by feverish:

Its not quite the same but y'know.  Can anyone link the music that people actually sang to at the newcastle game?  I dunno what the song's called or anything.  It had quite long sections that weren't so singable, but it was good otherwise.

We've gotta get Phoenix City playing.

Before the game I thought Ring of Fire.  But now I've heard Phoenix City, there's no doubt in my mind it should be that one.  Ska music is tops

Pretty sure what they were playing on Sunday is called Carnivale.  Think that version is off the soundtrack for EURO 2000.

Possibly. Don't quote me on that. Marvellous.

[QUOTE=phoenix rising] I thought the Brazilian drums pre-match followed by the song over the speakers was really effective - catchy tune, easy to sing along to ...

Pre-match drumming very entertaining, but shut the ** Up, during the game.

Just listened to Phoenix City. (And on dial-up, trust me that takes a while)...
Song is magic. Definately should be the run-on song.

Haha what about this version of "Ring of Fire" by the same guy that did the "Carnival de Paris".  Its sooo us - starts with "Somewhere in the pacific ocean..." and the guy that turns up at the end is clearly Daniel :)

Not too hard to sing along to either if you listen!

In the midst of all the euphoria surrounding the first win let's not forget the single biggest issue facing the Wellington Phoenix right now...

When are we going to hear "Phoenix City" played at the Stadium?

Come on Tony P, listen to the fans and sort it out!

Still no Phoenix City at any point, let alone as the run on song.

I'm getting sick of this sh*t - see my challenge to the mayoral candidates...

Prehaps if we get Greek Fever to ask Terry for Phoenix City to be played, we as ticket paying fans may get the resuilt we have overwelmingly voted for!

Does the club have to pay for the drummers?????????
