It's Kiwi.  It's retro.  It could be ours.

Phoe-nix lalalalalala
Phoe-nix lalalalalala
Phoe-nix lalalalalala
La lala Phoenix.

Scarves above the head swinging anti-clockwise.

Breakdancing should be encouraged also (see the young fella at 2.43-2.46.   He knows it)...

This chant has been on the forums since last season (and it is a great one i think) yet it hasn't been used once. Should definately get it going before every game!

We tried on Sunday; but nobody really picked it up.

Keep trying, it will come!

Yeah that sounds like a good idea for a chant!

Keep it up!

Great idea. What about in the last sentence, when it goes "poi e takupoi e" have "phoenix, phoenix FC"

All it needs is for 10 or so lads to stand together and decide to sing it. We had problems from DAY 1 with people not picking up new chants. . . . . IN nthe end it always seems to revert back to one or two standards.

"Down the Road" was one of the few successes. Started with a few over zealous guys (eejit - to name one of the main culprits! ) chanting it in the BB and refusing to let it drop. Sooner or later people picked up the tune and the lyrics and it works really well . . .

I actually think this will have more chance of catching on with the original words ...
Poi-e na na na na na etc (scans better than Phoenix lalalalala) but with a different last line

egs ... Yellow fever do the poi-e

or Ahmed really loves his poi-eh

or whatever.

I know, I know, its serious!

Get ready to be embarrassed then PoL.

We need more New Zealand unique chants and this is a superb place to start.

how about substituting Poi-E with Poneke - Maori for Wellington according to Mr. Google (no idea how you pronounce it , raised in Blackpool and missed Maori Language Week last week..) but looks like it might work..

Po-ne-ke - we are the wellington
Po-ne-ke - we're not the hurricanes
po-ne-ke - we will be champions
Phoenix, Phoenix F.C..

...or something

I could see more people knowing the words to this than most football chants...explains alot though

Kiwi Pie has a point though.

We need to be devloping our own unique sound rather than just covering everything someone spots an English club doing on YouTube.

I find myself agreeing with both HN and PoL.  I agree we need to do more than just repeat the songs and chants we've heard overseas and it would be great to have our own song that is recognisably Kiwi, both at the RoF and when we travel across the ditch.

But I also think Poi - E is harder for a group to sing than what the extremely talented Patea Maori Club make it seem.

Therefore, I would like to suggest a song, once common at many a party but nowadays sadly not so much, one that I think is as Kiwi as Bacon and Egg pie.  (Don't tell Ahmad he'll want to eat it)

And we could start with a simplified version of it:

Beneath the stars my ten guitars will play a song for you
And if you're with the team you love this is what you do

Oh, dance, dance, dance to my ten guitars
And very soon you know just where you are
Through the eyes of love you see a thousand stars
When you dance, dance, dance, to my ten guitars

I didn't think "Poi-E" with plug in english language footy related bits was that hard to sing.

Anyway, go the Phoenix tonight. will be watching on Teev..

how about getting it played on the loudspeakers before the game and at halftime to begin with, and then hopefully that will grow into us singing it ourselves, like "Ring of Fire" if it is played every game at some point it will definately catch on
You know we belong together...
