Ok Pool fans,

Before I start this chat, Im NOT rubbing in this great night, Im asking you guys to tell us Arsenal fans how it felt on the otherside of the coin. Sure we Arsenal fans talk about is great night with happiness, and pride, All those emotions would be I guess reveresed with scousers. Myself and Goonerforlife have been breifly chatting about the night of May 26th 19 years ago, and what we felt about it. I was at the game, and it was only my 2nd time of going to Anfield.

No journo back home gave Arsenal a prayer, and all agreed that we blew it against Derby. But Stroller Graham believed, probaly more than anyone connected with Arsenal.

I do have one question to ask you guys though. In my view Liverpool showed very bad sportsmanship at the end of the match as two proud Irsih teamates one winner, one loser, goes to console the other, and is told to piss off. One had one virtually everything in the domestic game, and the other had a couple of cup wins under his belt.

Football would of certainly be boring if Arsenal hadnt of won that night, and never has there been, or in my opion there never will be a more dramtic end to a season. This seasons match between Chelsea and Utd came close, but it wasnt the last match of the season.

I'm a fan of neither but I watched this game on Sky and was boucing around the lounge like a madman. It was the second most exciting 90 minutes of my football viewing days, only surpassed by AWs 2 China 1 in early 1982.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Liverpool made the mistake of playing not to lose rather than playing to win, and then were happy to lose 0-1.  It was the end of an era for them - and bloody Nick Hornby built a whole career off the back of that game.  Michael Thomas has a lot to answer for.

It's up for grabs now.....bloody hell.  Has it been 19 years?

It must have been played on a Friday night over there because it was Saturday morning here and I had to go to football in the afternoon and listen to my team-mates go on and on about it.....

Such was liverpool's dominance of the English game up until that point, I half cheered when Thomas scored the goal.

I have been filled with self loathing ever since.

It seems like only yesterday. A classic game to decide a classic championship!! Liverpool were near imposible to beat especially at their place - Bit like Man U these days. Always got a gift penalty when required - escept in this game. Surrounding the referee - just like Man U too!

as much as i am not a fan of arsenal, the 89 final was in my mind the greatest ever finish to a season, full of drama and passion on both sides, michael thomas's goal was one for the record books. i doubt there will be anything as dramatic for a long while yet.

Watched this game in the Archway Tavern.

Not long after the winning goal, a pint glass took down the big screen. The place went off. Always remember a couple of unseasonly dressed scousers looking particulary horrified. There was a rather hurried 'can-can' to the next pub to watch the trophy presentation.

Ended up outside the ground that night and then crashing somewhere in the Cross.
