I see no reason why Mr Arsenal can't succeed at Pompey.

Three for me, and two for them.

Henry will sign for them in January!

Yeah? And? Brian Clough was sh*t at Leeds. Bobby Robson was sh*t at Fulham. You gonna judge Adams on one previous job?

erm... yeah

It was politics that killed off Cloughie at Leeds, not his ability as a manager. He had good spells at other clubs before he joined Leeds.

Robson yeah I'll give you that.

Cloughie was the wrong fit at Leeds, but his tenure there was also undermined by the lack of results albeit in a very short space of time. Before that, he'd turned Hartlepool around and won the Championship with unfashionable Derby, as well as taking them to the European Cup semis.
But Adams is a different kettle of fish. He's inexperienced as a front-line man, and his spell at Wycombe was, as has been mentioned, mediocre at best. I think he's an understandbale appointment in the interests of both continuity and economy, but whether he's the right appointment remains to be seen.

Adam's first managerial decision was to drop Defoe...

Genius stuff, he'd scored 6 from 9 this season...

I like that and may use it in conversation. Not that I dislike donkeys far from it.

Yeah, it is. I've seen some stills from the filming. It should be in UK cinemas quite soon.

Do you actually know why he struggled at Wycombe?
If you followed what was happening you would know it was because he struggle to relate to crap players who werent capable of playing and using tactics that he was familiar with. He got frustrated trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear.

It really is amazing how far you Gooners will go to defend one of your heroes.
He knew the situation when he took the job. He failed in the job. But it's not his fault. It's the players that he couldn't improve. Blame them.

It's also really amazing how many of you have written him off at Pompey without giving him a fair go.

I haven't written him off, I think he could well make a decent fist of it and may put himself into the frame as Wenger's eventual successor.
All I'm saying is that he failed at Wycombe, which is backed up by facts. Blaming that failure on being unable to work with lower quality players is a total cop out. It was his job to be able to do exactly that. He took the job knowing that.
Hell, even Paul Ince, not exactly my favourite guy in football, did an admirable job of it.

I agree, i loved Hoddle as a player, in my eyes the best ever. But rubbish as a manager...

Adams looks to be heading the same way. No pedigree as a manager and some crazy decisions in his first few weeks (as i mentioned above dropping Defoe for his first game in charge)...

Pompey fans aren't over the moon about his role according to a podcast i was listening to...

You seen this from Hoddle today on the beeb? Exactly what most people who have watched England over the last 20 years has been thinking. I always thought he was hard done by after his ludicrous and stupid comments on the disabled, which in my mind he paid for.

Setting this academy up goes a long way to change my opnion of him. Hopefully he can produce a future England Maradona?

Shame really, would have liked him to stick around a few more games cause lets be honest, Portsmouth were sinking and now they have time to get a new manager and turn things around.

Um, it's not an injustice...

Some of you make me laugh. This image of the stereotypical Arsenal fan you lot build up about us is incredible.

It's ridiculous the lack of time he got, even less than Scolari. It's amazing to me that football is always touted as big business these days but some of the decisions made by boards are decidedly amateur. He's had just over a quarter of a season, with bugger-all to spend and had to sell Diarra and Defoe. Again, I say ridiculous.

Surely Wenger should apply for the Chelsea job?  Clearly he needs a new challenge and he's been telling Chelsea for years now how the club should be run.

By the way, I notice Lonegunmen's tone has changed recently.  Instead of telling us what QPR will do in the premiership he's reverted to hoping we all get dragged down to QPR's level.  Is that an admission that nothing has changed at Loftus Road?

That's only if you call 8 wins in a row dog's bollocks.

Each to their own I guess.

You'd not be the first NZer to get that wrong, EG....pommie slang really is the muts nuts.

I disagree with the outrage over Adams' dismissal - from a Board perspective it is less about the short time in tenure and more about the short time towards the end of the season. The spiral of decline Portsmouth entered from the moment he tried to fill 'Arry's boots was extra-ordinary.

Chelsea is another story...that is just based on misplaced arrogance and wealth.

Couldn't agree more HH, it's all to do with the steep downward slide towards relegation and the numbers of games left. Ultimately he won 4 from 22, and they are staring relegaton in the face, they had to do something...

Almost all of them 1-0 wins, that wouldn't be enough for Abramovich, it's all about 'sexy' football
