Just watched the news about AIG in severe financial trouble. Them being Manchester United's principle sponsor, does this put the Glazers and the club in huge trouble as well?

I can't see how it would be anything but a short term set back, if we lose AIG as sponser then we will pick up another quick. A casino group (Mansion, who now sponsor Tottenham) actually offered more when our deal with Vodafone ended, but the club wasn't keen on it (I think it was the gambling aspect, could be wrong). But I mean it is Manchester United, they are slightly marketable. One or two people round the world have heard of them.

But I just got my new away shirt, and I don't want it to change straight away! Suppose it could be an excuse to get another...

If anything happened to the Glazer's money or the sponsorship fronm AIG there'd be a queue to replace them.

If I was a United fan I'd rather have the club in Glazer's ownship than that of some Arab looking for a hobby.

The size of AIG's business is equivalent to the entire economy of Australia (not Andorra) so it's no wonder the Fed Govt have helped them out... if they go tits up then so does Wall St...

Ugly.

Does it put MUFC in trouble? NO.
In the worst case, Glazers go bust, the club would have to be sold. We can be sure that there would be NO shortage of buyers.

If I was a United fan I'd rather have the club in Glazer's ownship than that of some Arab looking for a hobby.

Arab buyers are a little more astute than that.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Does AIG "own" manyoo or are they just the sponsor? If they're just the sponsor they'll be sweet, they'll be replaced in a heart beat with a better deal, they'll just end up with new strips! Hardly worth worrying about. I'm pretty sure Sir A wouldn't let sh*te like this effect their footy, JUST PLAY!

Hi Guys,

Seeing as im now living in NYC, I can tell you whats going on with Man Utds shirt sponsor. Its not looking good for AIG, as the US government has just bailled them out to the tune of 85 billion dollars. Fox Soccer is saying that there will be no change in the realtionship between Man U and AIG, and I can see any reason at the moment for that to change. But people on Wall Street yesterday wernt looking to happy about the impending doom around the city.

Maybe Man Uts next shirt sponsor will be Honest John's Auto from Newtown Heath!!!

AIG - http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/9c0e75cc-84e1-11dd-b148-0000779fd18c.html?nclick_check=1
But AIG takes the biscuit. Here was a huge multinational insurance group with a reputation for solid underwriting and risk management that decided to diversify from insuring risks it knew well car crashes and fires to covering derivatives it did not understand.

Meh, all that would happen is we'd get a new shirt sponsor. Suits me tbh, the aig logo is fugly as.

Bring back Sharp!

tbh the premier league needs to go to a tv rights deal like american sports have which stipulate clean shirts and stadiums.
I know this will never happen but how much better are football shirts without ads on them?

I remember last season When United played in a plain red shirt in respect for munich. It looked a really cool jersey, then they switched back to the top with the racing stripe on it - yuk!

If I was a United fan, I'd go back to the kit from 75/76, that looked heaps better than the last few years efforts.
