But Ferguson has backed chief executive David Gill's immovable stance over Ronaldo's contract and future. United's manager is fuming with Real's arrogance, saying: 'They ride roughshod over everyone but they won't do it with us.'

Sympathy for old beetroot face is rolling in from all four corners of Trafford.

A pot calling a kettle black over in Manchester perhaps Uiron? Certainly going to be an interesting week with Ronaldo announcing his own future in 2-3 days time.

Manchester have done it for years. I've always hated how players always seem to get out of their contracts especially when teams want to keep them but are rarely left with much of a choice.

Sounds like Ronaldo wants to go.

'For me it is a great opportunity and, as Scolari says, that train passes by only once and we have to take advantage of it. 'That is why he took advantage of his change. Other people have to take advantage of opportunities, too.' Asked whether he was concerned his actions would upset United manager Sir Alex Ferguson the winger added: 'It is my opinion. That is why I don't mind if people get upset. 'It is my decision. It is what I want. I don't know what I have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think.'

Jeez, old red nose will have blown a blood vessel when he read that!
