A lot more than any Celtic player, might not have had the best year but even still his able to star in many games. Alonso and Gerrard is one of the best and most consitent central midfield partnerships in english football.

Everyone talks about Gerrard being the greatest centre midfielder in the world, when he is not even the 3rd best centre midfielder in the Liverpool squad.  Alonso, Sissoko and Marcherano are all better centre midfielders than him.

My premiership players for this season :

Keeper - Cech - even in half a season, he showed he is by far the best around.

Defender - Vidic - immense at times.  Strong in the tackle, good in the air, reads the game well, and not a bad passer to boot.  Everything Ferdinand thinks he is.

Midfielder - Ronaldo - no-one comes close this season.  At times he was impossible to stop, and 23 odd goals for the season is a great return from midfield.

Striker - Drogba - again, the best in his position.  Scored great goals (Everton away is the one that stands out for me) and tap-ins.

Your joking right.

Alonso maybe but Sissoko and Mascherano no way.

My vote goes to Steven Gerrard, what are your thoughts

Hmmmmmm either the Drog (Didier Drogba) because Chelsea have been dug out of so many holes by him or Carlos Tevez who has been inspirational for West Ham towards the end of the season.

Although I'm a big Stevie G and Liverpool fan I think it'd be biased to say he was the best player of the season.

you know the stupid thing about questions like this, is that goalkeepers never get a look in, and invariably neither do defenders.

Like clarence seedorf, I'll never prescribe to naming a best player in the league cos as you all know, each position demands its own abilities. But if I had to think of one player, I'd base it on the impact he had on his team so I'd lump for Carlos tevez simply for his heroics in the last couple months.

I gotta say David James is right up there for me.

That clean sheet streak was spectacular. And that's coming from a spurs fan who has a vested interest in Robinson being no1 for England.

That's just crazy! You can't even compare them as they play different roles. The only thing they have in common is that they are in the midfield. Alonso and Mascherano are both holding MF'ers and Sissoko is the fetcher. Gerrard doesn't normally play either of these roles, he's normally attacking MF, the support striker or out wide (usually all in the same game).

It's hard to pick this one, Ronaldo has more flair (i'm choking as I type this), Drogba can be contained for 89 mins and then win the game with half a chance and the Stevie G is all action and more versatile than the other two. No clear winner for me.

Tevez is stunning and almost singlehandedly saved the Hammers but hasn't shown that form for a whole season yet.

Most underrated IMO is Benni McCarthy. 18 goals for a mid-table team is a class performance.

Agree with Nesting about 'ur Tater, Mikel Arteta to the uneducated. He is probably the most underated playing the the prem league. He scores, he creates, he's a hit with the ladies and (unlike Ronny Ronaldo), he stays on his feet and fights.
Keepers - Howard
Defence - Hibbert or Lescott
Midfield - Tater or Osman
Strikers - AJ, Big Vic or Vaughny

Rooney had got to be up there as one of the best. Consistent and great touch and strength. Sure Van Persie might score the odd good goal or something but he lacks consistency. Drogbas class but again Rooney creats chances drops back all the time. I put him up in ma top 3. Id have to include the ultimate midfielder Gerrard. Scholes back in his days, but dropped off the pace slightly.

Bit of talk about Bale potentially being player of the EPL this season. He'd be up there.

Other candidates? Perhaps a poll could be in order...

I think these ones have stood out in particular this season, off the top of my head;

Bale

van Persie

Michu

Suarez

Cesar

Fellaini

If value is brought into the equation the Michu is a standout (and arguably RvjP). If not, Bale and RvjP.

I'm off to stab myself in the eye.

Is Cesar the keeper from QPR???

Agree that Bale + RVP are outstanding. Michu is quality but I have a feeling he's the kind of player that won't succeed in a big club so hope he stays.

RVP has shown that he is not just great at Arsenal, but he has carried it on at Man U. Surrounded by decent players in both teams, I have entertained the thought that would he be as successful at someone like QPR or Villa or Newcastle? But a quality player he is and a deadly finisher.

Based only on performance thus far this season i think michu should be right in the mix - scored a lot, almost all of them vital ones, and surely from less chances than the others at the top of the golden boot table

Demba Ba has also played well. Mata too. Someone mentioned Baines, I'd forgotten him, he's been outstanding. Probably no one from Arsenal - cazorla and walcott have had good seasons but not up with this lot, and wilshere probably not enough games.

What do you think an internet forum is?

If it's not a forum for people's to voice their opinions, then what is it?

Seriously leggy, I try with you, I really do, but sometimes you're just a walking facepalm.

It is just the topic. The best player in the EPL. Sure everyone has an opinion but in this case a lot will go with a player from the team they support and lots of variables. Over 400 players to pick from.
OK I will have a go. Junior Hoilett.

I honestly think if he wins the golden boot and ManU win the league, it will be RVP again. Michu to run him close if he keeps scoring and Swansea finish well.
