Streaming here at 4.30 am NZT (build-up show streaming from 3.30 am):

May be true because ESPN will want to replace the Champions League which they've lost the rights to with other football.

BeIN Sports have snatched away the UEFA Champions League rights for Oceania from ESPN.

BeIN Sports is carried by Foxtel in Australia.

I suggest that fans contact Sky TV and suggest that they add BeIN Sports to their roster.

BeIN Sports broadcasts heaps of football.

BeIN Sports Australia website for info on what they show: http://www.beinsports.com.au/

Contact Sky here:

https://skytv.custhelp.com/app/contactus/emailus

Sky Sport Facebook - post a message:

https://www.facebook.com/skysportnz

Sky TV Facebook

https://www.facebook.com/SKYnewzealand

This is what I sent to them and posted on their Facebook:

"With the UK & European soccer seasons starting, what I want to know is, now that you have lost the UEFA Champions League (ESPN no longer have the rights), on top of you losing the English Premier League rights a couple of years ago, what are you going to do about it? I suggest that you ditch ESPN and add BeIN Sports which now has the Champions League rights for NZ & Oz (It's carried by Fox in Australia). Plus BeIN Sports has heaps of other top football as well as rugby (Six Nations etc.)
I terminated Sky TV recently because of your lack of soccer coverage and won't subscribe again until it improves."

[I used the word "soccer" so they don't get confused]

I just asked Sky Sport on Facebook by private message (posting on their page is disabled) whether there are any plans to screen Champions League and they replied straight away that "an announcement is imminent."

I also asked on the general Sky TV page and they replied:

we're currently in negotiations for the rights to the UEFA Champions League for the 2015/2016 season, but at the moment we don't have anything to announce regarding this.

Kind of contradicts the "imminent announcement."

Pete, interesting to see in their reply to your comment that they are currently negotiating for EPL rights as well as CL. Of course they will try to get it back next season but didn't realise negotiations would have started already, unless they just meant they will bid for it when they come up after this season.

Awesome. Just appears to be this game at this stage.

Hopefully, they can find a way to get Chris Wood's dirty Leeds on TV being whipped by Burnley (live Saturday early game in UK).

Your wishes have been granted...

This season you’ll find the biggest names in the world of football right here on SKY Sport, as SKY confirms a deal with global broadcasting network beIN Sports.

The deal offers fans an absolute football feast, with selected games from the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Football League and the Capital One Cup exclusively LIVE on SKY Sport.

“We are excited to bring games of this caliber to the screen for SKY Sport customers,” said Richard Last, SKY’s Director of Sport.

“Football fans will enjoy coverage from the European competitions, while continuing to have access to Premier League action via Chelsea TV, Arsenal TV, Manchester City TV and Manchester United TV.”

The Premier League table-toppers will be joined by the likes of continental leviathans Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid as Europe’s best compete in the UEFA Champions League.

The Europa League showcases the best of the rest – including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Fans of English football will also enjoy chosen matches from the Football League, as England’s underdogs play for promotion to Premier League glory.

SKY Sport will also have LIVE coverage from the Capital One Cup.

I wonder if PLP put in a bid for this...

It's going to be interesting next season, Sky have announced they will be bidding for the rights for the EPL as PLP's 3 yr deal expires at the end of this season. Sky now have 3-4 pop up channels which they didn't have 3 yrs ago, so the opportunity for more live football (or football that can be recorded via MySky) is enhanced.

Popup channels are irrelevant. Sky has had the same hardware platform as Foxtel and offered "viewers choice" with their EPL coverage (ie: you can choose via your remote, the match you want to watch - and change games, and watch a mosaic) several years back. Sky have the capability to do this - they previously chose not to. IF they get the rights again I would hope they do the same (or use popups).

Sky also bid for the rights to show the current Black Caps series in SAF. So lets not make any assumptions until there's a deal announced.

That's a tough one.

For the ease of watching it in the same way as I watch other sports, then Sky of course, but then we're going back to the old over-priced monopoly situation, which is bullsh*t.

We either need Sky to hurry up and update their archaic way of operating, or for them to lose absolutely everything.

Because the halfway house situation is what's killing me - I'm paying exorbitantly to have Sky, with most of that money going toward programming I don't even want, and then I'm paying little extra bits here and there to pick up  other stuff I want to see, that Sky don't have.

When it comes down to it, I don't give two flying f*cks who the suppliers are, I want to just pay for what I want to watch, and that's it.

A Football only channel would be amazing. Doesn't have to be Sky - could even be these guys on-selling the channel through Sky.

Don't want it to be in the general mix of Sky as it always got shifted around or reduced in coverage whenever something else was on.

Sky for me.

Broadcast quality is better.

Plus all the other football they have like A-League, All Whites, Club World Cup, internationals, Champions League, Championship, FA Cup etc.

And I like to watch one day cricket.

Sky are now offering from time to time a shorter-term contract too so you don't have to sign up for a year.

I ditched Sky completely in July but may watch out for such an offer - you get free re-connection after three months minimum without Sky.

This website is great for free on demand games and highlights shows from all the major European leagues.

Matches are posted there just hours after they are played.

This morning's EPL, la Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga games are there already.

Has short ads every seven minutes - but they are only 15 seconds long which doesn't bug me too much.

Video quality is very good.

Has EPL, la Liga, Serie A, Eredivisie etc. highlights shows too.

And the major cup and Euro competitions.

Can choose from options at top of video window such as "First Half", "Second Half", "Highlights" etc.

From friends and relatives in Britain and Holland.

Accidently when Googling.

Plus foreign students at Canterbury University.

I'm president of the vegetarian club on campus and we're very international  - a lot of European, South American, Asian students come to our meals. Plenty of them like their football and are savvy at watching it for free online.

If watching football and other sports on Sky TV is the way you want to go with the A-League around the corner etc. now is the time to take advantage of a great offer that Vodafone has. It's available to people who already have Sky but want to get it cheaper too.

Last week I helped an older friend who's not so savvy about internet plans and Sky etc. and loves his football (soccer) and a bit of cricket and tennis.

He was paying way too much to get Sky and the internet (broadband and landline) seperately.

He likes Sky TV for the stuff he gets on UKTV, History Channel, news channels etc. as well and prefers that to watching stuff online.

I went around to his place and we phoned Vodafone after I saw their Rugby World Cup special offer.

He's very happy with the package we got from Vodafone under their special offer for one year:

Unlimited broadband (standard) and home phone = $99 / month

Sky Sport free for six months (after that you can drop it or pay full price - or do what I did when I had Sky through Vodafone and instead drop the My Sky and get Sky Sport for half price forever. Vodafone let you choose either free My Sky or Sky Sport half price on their plans. I used a DVD recorder to record stuff.)

Free My Sky for as long as you remain on a Vodafone broadband and Sky deal (past the 12 month offer too)

Free My Sky set up fee (usually $99) - if you don't currently have Sky TV in your house, the installation fee is free too.

"Best Mates" free national toll calls to five nominated landline or mobile numbers .

So for the first six months he'll be paying only $148 / month ($99 broadband and phone; $49 Sky Basic) with the Sky Sport and My Sky free.

I don't have Sky at the moment but I'm tempted by this offer.

At the end of the 12 month special offer you can change to Vodafone's 80 gb plan with home phone for $89 / month and choose either free My Sky or Sky Sport half price.

You can also get Sky directly from Sky on a special offer currently (until Sunday) which gives you Sky Sport free until the end of the Rugby World Cup (November 1st) and only a six month contract.

No joining fee.

Free My Sky until November 2 as well.

A six month contract will allow you to ditch Sky when the A-League and European seasons end in May.

Pleased to see that football lovers can get good  cheap coverage from Sky in New Zealand at last.  It is all about competition. Fox in Australia have also had to come to the party. We have always had good coverage but the price has dropped. I now get all the channels, UK tv, History etc the nine sports channels( including ESPN ) plus beIN Sports for $56 a month.      This does not include the nine movie channels.
