Yeah unlucky Chelsea, was really worried about you guys in the final and you's showed why you deserved to be there. Put up a good fight and a strong 2nd half. Terry was immense, just unlucky he missed.

Well played boys, outstanding game and you gave it everything.  Cech was brilliant saving those two strikes earlier in the game, then Ronaldo's penalty.

JT saved a certain goal off Gigg's with his head....stand tall our captain!

Gutted to lose on pens, we had our chances....twice hitting the woodwork.  Was that Drogba's final act in a blue shirt.....

A very good but not a great Chelsea season......

I really don't like Chelsea but I feel for you in respect that you have the likes of Drogba wearing your team shirt. I hope he leaves England next season.

The guardian's Paul Doyle:

"Well before the end it was clear that whoever won this match would be worthy champions. When sporting competitions are conceived, the ideal is that a team will be crowned after deservedly conquering valiant and talented rivals in a tense, exhilarating drama that showcases both contenders' qualities, as well, perhaps, as some controversial vices (thanks for that, Didier). Frequently the final falls short, but tonight the teams truly delivered."

Says it all really.  We lost - but there was nothing in it.  Maybe the width of a post.  Either side would have been worthy winners.  United got lucky in the lottery.  I'm so gutted.  I wonder if Drogba will look back on his silly moment and think he cost us the game?  JT was not in the first five to take a pen.  So near yet so far - which sums up our season really.  I'm glad it's over.

I really wanted you guys to win and was gutted when JT put his penalty wide. Now we have to put up with Ferguson gloating about how great his team are all over again.

And you just know he was going to roast the ref if they had of lost. sh*t Terry, you've not just let the Chelsea faithful down but football fans in general who cant stand Fergusson.

Harsh mate.  John Terry let no one down today.  He saved a certain goal and stepped up when he had to becuae our best striker had got himself sent off when he should have been on the pitch taking the f**king pen.  That's who let us down today.

Jose , it was just a shame he slipped at the vital moment. However, I think Terry will bounce back as a better player. He's had a taste of a Final, he'll want to win it even more than ever. I cant believe Drogba got a red for that slap, it was on par with a certain Aussie referee last season. If he'd had close fisted the player one on the chin, sure, a red card, But hell, only 3 fingers?

Anway its all done now. Did you Chelsea fans see that player getting attacked??

Unbelievable!!

I said at the time I thought Anelka was a bad signing.  Him and his ego can join the queue for the door marked exit as far as I'm concerned along with Drogba, Pizzaro, Sidwell, SWP, Malouda, Sheva and the other lightweights.  Team player?  He wouldn't know the meaning of the words.

I gotta respond to that article. Grant is a lot better coach than many give him credit for. It wasn't him whom drew with Bolton, the players on the pitch didn't play with any killer punch. Against Man U, the players were a bit lethargic other than Terry. Jose, add Carvelho to your list. Everytime I see him play I wonder why he was even picked. Drogba gone, Anelka gone and they wont be missed if it happens.

Two Chelsea players whom I have a lot of time for is Terry - a better England Captain than that illiterate that plays for Man U. and the other player is Ballack. He might not be Chelsea born but he plays like he is. I reckon he is streets better than fat Frank.

The Russian wants to back Grant rather than those who let the club down  on the field.

Anelka, be professional and play anywhere your manager wants you to. Be greatful you overpaid, under achieving plank! Everyone else scored a penalty by going to their right (Even Terry would have scored had he not slipped) but no Anelka you plank, you had to hit yours where Van der Sar spent most of the night.

Just shows how ruthless they are.  While I've never thought he was the right man for the job, Avram goes with my grateful thanks for turning around our season and giving us a wonderful European adventure when we had no right to get anywhere. I wonder how much it cost to pay him off given he had a four year contract?

I will have to disagree with Lonegunman (makes a change!) about Carvalho.  He's been outstanding since he came to Chelsea.  One of the true stars of the team and much under rated if anything.

Your comments about JT though are spot on.  On the club website he's written an open letter to the fans taking full responsibility for Chelsea's defeat and apologising for the miss.  Interestingly he says he will pursue this trophy both as a Chelsea player and future manager.  Probably a bit early to be player coach, but then nothing surprises me at this club.  No comment from Anelka of course about his miss.

I think all any fan wants is players who bleed the club's colours as much as they do.  John Terry certainly fits the bill; you could tell that missing that penalty was the worst moment of his life.

I agree about Ballack too - he's begining to look the goods for Chelsea.  Interesting times ahead for the club - new boss, players certainly on the way out and more to come in I guess.

I see the bookies have shortened Mourinho to 8/1 to return.....

Bye bye Avram, thanks for a thrilling season and for your efforts in leading us to what would have been a hugely successful season by most other clubs standards.

Will now be an interesting clearout at the Bridge I think.....

Mancini, Hiddink, Rijkaard.....or Jose's return has even been rumoured.....

JT and Carvalho were an immense pairing at the back for us most of the season....I rate both of them highly and appreciate JT's letter.

Ballack is the player who has impressed me most of all this season.....and I really wasn't that fussed on him last season at all.

I just wonder whether he has the man management skills or the tactical nous?  I know he's largely been a success at Barca but they've been an absolute rabble over the last couple of years.

'Expansive' as opposed to 'expensive'

Perhaps you should just sign KK from the Barcodes.  He always has a great philosophy for attacking football.

2 La Liga titles back to back and a Champions League in 06 that completed a League and European double. Not bad if you ask me. He knows how to tighten it up when needed too (see Barcelona vs Milan, 06 CL Semi Final).

Rijkaard might not have the man management skills for the long term, but he's got results.
Nervous that he will crack under the pressure.

Loved The special one's final stab in Jabba's guts. Something along the lines of

"After three years of two tropies, no trophies is a failure by my philosophy of football. To a loser it might have been a great season, and I respect that".

He just can't help himself!

Apparently it's Chelsea's fault Portugal got knocked out of the Euros even though the Portugeezers knew he was leaving before the tournament started and therefore the players as well presumably.  God give me strength.

No doubt part of the conspiracy theory to help Russia win.

Lampard wants a 5 year deal @ 140,000 quid a week, Chelsea offer a 4 year deal [ not bad in my view]- to match the other aging " stars " at Chelsea. Except the contract now  Frank or play for the reserves for a season before you go to ITALY.

I'm sorry, but that's just obscene really.  He's already on 130K and he's wanting to haggle on a pay rise?  Him and JT are probably the highest earners anyway.

The problem is you give them an increase and in 6-12 months they are wanting more again.  Much as I love him, I'm tempted to say take it or leave it.   I would be surprised if he got that in Italy.

Looks like Drogba is staying[shame] - offered some huge amount to match Terry and he has to promise  "not to be  moody and won't dive "  - Frank is going too, not till January 2009 - both bloody greedy buggers if you ask me,
Essien wil now get a chance to be in the mid-field,
