Agreed. Farewell Maka.
Fergie is trying what he can to upset Big Phil, with no Ronnie for 2 months, manu will be too far behind to win the league this year.
I predict 2005 all over again.
Agree with ya. Maka has been great for us but he is past his best and Essien can do the job.
this is where ur wrong, without ronnie, someone else steps up to get the ball in the net, how else do u explain how u survived without drogba when he was in a tanty or injured. lets hold the trash talking until after we've seen the first few weeks of the season

Now for Robinho.
Good to see Lamps saga finally resolved.
I'm a Gunners fan but I've gotta give some kudos to your boys for last nights efforts. Fantastic passing game, Anelka looked dangerous and Deco, what a signing! It is very early days that is for sure but when you consider the injury crisis' that are affecting Man U and to a slightly lesser extent Arsenal it will be pretty hard for anyone to keep up with Chelsea. Can't see Liverpool challenging, they are rubbish. Anyway, here's hoping we can keep up and maybe just nick it from you, or at least win something else, I'd certainly take a CL win and the FA cup would be nice as well.

you'd have to be pretty happy as a milan supporter getting ronaldinho and sheva in the off season.
And Flamini...
2 GOALS for SWP at Cityand we still play Malouda ?? - sold the wrong player
Lol agree with ya there, Malouda has been pants for us

agree, Maka has given Chelsea 5 solid seasons ..... played a huge part in winning both Premiership Titles for us .Sorry to see him go... but age stops for no-one
Ferguson going on about the "old" Chelsea squad - he is a plonker - BOTH squads have an average age of 28, the only one with an age problem is Sir Alex. [Stats from The Guardian Newspaper]
I bet you this will back fire on him.
Big Phil's too savvy for Sir Alex's silly mind games. "Teams too old, too successful, no one can top what Jose did blah, blah." Yeah? Just watch us.

We'll see. My money is on United to have a slow start with Chelsea and possibly Arsenal setting the early pace.

im going to have to agree with you here, as i much as i like to dismiss man united, they arent a one man team. personally i would like to see them play without ronaldo, but what i cant wait for is when he does step back on to the old trafford pitch, i hope the boo's are loud and long, see if mr christiano madrid likes that! but yes, loosing him for a month wont kill off united, this season will be just as close as last years.
Good to see Lamps saga finally resolved.

Absolutely top news. Delighted he's staying for five years, although I will be happy if we get another 2-3 good years out of him. Will be great for maintaining that amazing team spirit the boys have.
Interesting Guardian report showing the top ten earners in English football. Needless to say, not an Arsenal player in sight. And poor old Drogs - a measly 91 grand a week! How does he survive?
Early days but we oozed class and confidence throughout the team this morning and nice to see Manure dropping points at home already as I predicted they would.

spot on there mate, great way for us to kick off a season. and as for man u and lpool, well ill just say that i would rather have a london club win the prem before them, any day.
Thanks for your kind words KTBW. Always nice to be recognised by your rivals and a step up in class from some of your Arsenal mates who are already in there dishing it out to Tottenham on the strength of one game.
Actually I do fancy the Arse for the FA Cup this year. I don't think you have the balance right yet for a sustained title challenge but you've certainly got the talent to do well in the cups.

Well... Spurs were garbage! I can still see them doing well though, if they get Arshavin and somebody like Pavlyuchenko to replace Berbs once he goes they could challenge for 5th and who knows, maybe if Liverpool struggle they might even nick 4th. Can't see them coming near the mighty Arsenal though.
Even though the result looks bad for Spurs I actually think 'Boro have the potential to be a pretty decent side. Southgate has recruited fantastically at times since taking over and seems to be quietly building a quality side. Digard, Alves, Tuncai, Arca, Emnes and Aliadiere all look like clever signings, both in terms of quality and value. His faith in homegrown talent is nice to see as well, perhaps even reminiscent of a certain French manager's methods...

No doubt there's a couple of pages of posts on the Arsenal thread about that one but I've lost the will to live. They don't call you Boring Boring Arsenal for nothing.
As opposed to one fan posting in the Chelsea thread?
Great Start to the season, biggest impression I got was how Chelsea pressure Portsmouth into "coughing" up the ball so easily. Passing was good and this was a team Man U could not break down the week before. Very encouraging display
wow chelsea looked very impressive in that game, ominous for the rest.
What do Chelsea fans make of the financial results? According to When Saturday Comes, Chelsea made a loss last season that was the same as Liverpool's total wage bill? Surely, you have to be worried about what will happen if Roman decides he's had enough?
Just read John King's latest book. As usual, most of his characters are Chelsea fans. One of the muses that when Roman does go, Chelsea will be back to playing Rotherham away - which he says he will prefer. Personally, I think that when Roman does decide to go, Chelsea will find themselves in a situation that will make the Leeds fiasco look positive.
Seriously, how worried are Chelsea about this? Or is it a case of enjoy it now and pretend it would never happen?
well i guess it could happen. and i do think some chelsea fans are living with a false sense of security, but wherever my team ends up, weather it be back to back premierships or league 2, i will still be standing by them. the same cant be said for glory hunters, but i guess in the modern world of football they are common place. as for the present, mr abramovich looks to be enjoying himself, and i dont think its a question of if we dont play like brazil hell just walk away. one thing i dont like are all the press stories of him demanding we play with flair, or that he influences player signings etc. yes he signs the cheques but i dont think he has the influence the press say he does. ill have to quote the great jose mourinho.
"If he helped me out in training we would be bottom of the league and if I had to work in his world of big business, we would be bankrupt!"
cheers.
I don't believe he would just walk away and write off all his investment without finding someone of equal financial resources to sell to. Although he's a t**ser, someone like Peter Kenyon will be putting things in place to make sure Chelsea is a long term viable business. I also don't believe Roman is a short term owner. Look at the decisions he's made, he's clearly looking long term. And now thw wife is out of the way he can enjoy his football in peace!
Yes, it's always a concern but I feel safer than I would supporting Man U or Liverpool or Man city for instance. And at the end of the day, if we go back to playing the likes of Rotherham every week I will still be there like I was back in the 80's when we lost home and away to them in one season with a 1-10 aggregate score I believe! Those were the days...
Looks like Sheva is finally on his way back to Milan. Not a great loss to be honest. Clearly a great player in his time but just didn't fit in at Chelsea from what I can see. It's a shame because he seemed like a nice bloke.
With Arsenal dropping points, huge incentive to get three tomorrow morning and get some early daylight between us, them and Man U. Come on you blues.

Oh dear, perhaps I should come and "banter" on the Arsenal thread about your sorry defeat at Fulham.
Cmon Chelsea!
jose never wanted to bring sheva to chelsea, isnt sheva a gud mate of ambromavich?? it was crazy the price they paid for him
1-0 v Wigan, poor display on that crappy Rugby League ground, glad to get this fixture out the way as this ground only gets worse. Wigan did well and probably derserve to get something from the game. Stunning goal from Deco. Played poorly but got the points.
it was a real shame what happened to sheva after how good he was at milan. mourinho never wanted him which was pretty clear from his lack of playing and subsequent terrible run of form. class act in his time and i hope he gets back to his best at milan. older players seem to play well there for whatever reason. you'd have to be pretty happy as a milan supporter getting ronaldinho and sheva in the off season.
And Flamini...
i fully agree with you, passing wasnt great compared to last week, i think training will be a lot of work for the lads this week. but at end of the day we got the 3 points, and when united played poorley they did not.
SWP back to Man City, hopefully to be replaced by Robhino. SWP was another nice lad who never quite delivered up to expectations. Shame really but I wish him well.
So general consensus of Chelsea fans is that Robinho will play on right wing? What about as a striker?
not too sure on where he will play, but im certain he is coming, as wright phillips is out, and they have already started selling robinho shirts in the megastore!
2 GOALS for SWP at City and we still play Malouda ?? - sold the wrong player
Lol agree with ya there, Malouda has been pants for us
