Also depends on the connection speeds, slower connections will result in less broadband use as it will lower the quality to prevent lag. There's no answer to the question 'how much data will watching one game use?'.
Anyone out there with technical knowledge know if there's a way of recording a live stream like that?

There are a number of different devices available for recording live TV to PC, but I'm a little confused as to why you want to do that when EPL will be delivered via internet ? Are you asking if you can connect PC to TV to stream EPL and then record back to PC ?
Basically, how to record it if I take the $99 option with no "On Demand" and start to fall asleep ten minutes into a 2am game - as you say, if you can connect PC to TV to stream EPL and then record back to PC? Or is there another way of recording a stream onto a hard drive?

I enjoy the way Sky does EPL, I like watching it on my 55inch TV not some laggy laptop...
Hopefully Sky buys back the rights after noone signs up for this, $25 for a day, you have to be having a laugh. $180 a year equals about $5 to watch every Arsenal game, that's more than I pay for Sky Sport a week.
Wont be at 1080p, rather 720p, so lesser quality then i currently have which is Sky with the HD ticket.
And take it for granted that this couple of hundred will climb very rapidly in a short space of time once you are hooked in. Someone mentioned no adverts earlier, only a matter of time. I will only buy this package once they get the A league as well - when it becomes a monopoly and principle goes out the window.
Whether you believe Tim Martin (CEO Colesium) or not is one thing, but he said in an interview with Telfer that they could reduce the price if more people signed up than they are anticipating...
They will run a server farm and a T1 out of the West Coast US and have some cable space to be able to stream into the region if they are smart and that's going to be the long term business model. If this there target region, that would be the place to base themselves from. Considering people can't tell (unless they are micro scoping) the diff between 1080p and 720p, I suspect 720p will be the format.

Shame we are so isolated here in NZ - otherwise we could shop around for satellite (or internet) packages from overseas - as they are able to legally in many countries such as in the European Union:

I heard someone did a trial of a hockey game being streamed live from the USA server and the quality was about 70% he said, compared to how he gets it from Sky now
I'm not that happy with this as an option as there isnt enough info on how it all works yet, too much guesswork.
Yes, in that article he certainly acknowledged there would be teething problems - I have no doubt there will be f-ups with this. It's still fairly experimental

Um, all you have to do is plug an HDMI cable into your TV and plug it into your computer. Its just as simple as plugging your TV into the wall.

I would be absolutely stoked with this if I was back in N.Z, only problem for me would be the quality and the oh so awful internet. The fact is that all sport will be in this kind of situation in about 10 years time. I think that is a guarantee.

That option totally sux. I want to use the computer for other things while I have an eye on the game. Or other family members need the computer while I watch a game. This is a crap solution.
Apparently we are all meant to upgrade our TVs and computers for the occasion so they are compatible. I imagine those people will just tell you to buy a second TV and computer

Your TV needs to be replaced for the digital switchover anyway, if you haven't done so already. Any TV that is acceptable for this switch over, will be able to plug into a computer.
If the talk about being able to watch games on Apple TV's is correct, then I would suggest that to be the best way to watch the streams if you don't want to plug a laptop into the TV, or don't own a laptop. They cost $159, which is cheaper than buying a laptop to be able to plug into the computer. They are fantastic little boxes, I assure you that you'll end using it for more than just football (streaming movies and music from your computer, YouTube etc).
The best thing will be that it will always be plugged into your TV, so it will be no harder to start watching a game than it is to turn on the Sky decoder.

Funnily enough, once you are logged into MLS Live, it doesn't check your location again. So switch on the VPN, log in to MLS Live, turn off the VPN, and watch the football without the VPN restricting your speed at all.
If the talk about being able to watch games on Apple TV's is correct, then I would suggest that to be the best way to watch the streams if you don't want to plug a laptop into the TV, or don't own a laptop. They cost $159, which is cheaper than buying a laptop to be able to plug into the computer. They are fantastic little boxes, I assure you that you'll end using it for more than just football (streaming movies and music from your computer, YouTube etc).
The best thing will be that it will always be plugged into your TV, so it will be no harder to start watching a game than it is to turn on the Sky decoder.
Playing through the apple tv is just going to be via airplay at this stage. So you'd need an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch or a recent Mac computer. they said they were looking at a dedicated app but won't be launching with one.
But yeah they're great devices, and a great option if you have an iPhone etc or Mac, you don't even need to use a cable.

Tegal, your TV does not need to be replaced for the digital switchover, you can use any old TV. I would have thought with all the advertising theve produced to inform people of this fact over the last year that everyone would already know that.

I already had sky, so never paid attention to the ads, my mistake. But if you don't upgrade your tv, I believe you'll have to buy a freeview receiver anyway? I imagine you could buy an Apple TV or even a tablet (at a stretch) for a similar price.
And yeah AP, I do pay a lot of money to sky to watch sport from around the world. Hopefully that'll change with the introduction of more online choices like coliseum, and American sports league passes being more easily available and giving me the option to only pay for what I actually want to watch :)

Re: the cost side of things - would those who are (for want of a better word) complaining about the costs involved in viewing the games via the internet prefer that SKY increase your monthly subscriptions so that SKY can put, in their view, a better bid for the rights. If so, how much more would you be willing to pay? I see that they are not reducing subs even though they lost the rights.
If you believe SKY, they put in the best bid they could for the rights. To therefore allow them to put in a higher bid they would either have to value it more as a product via more customers viewing the EPL games (which I doubt would greatly change year on year) or increase the monthly subs.
They were outbid fair and square which now leaves consumers with an option. Either sign up and make the necessary purchases to allow us to watch the games over the internet or choose to only watch the EPL on TV1/Sommet only (if you have freeview). Is it a pain in the arse - yes. But ultimately it is a choice that each consumer has to make based on their own circumstances. And while some of those with SKY won't sign up with coliseum, they will other people who don't currently have SKY but will sign up online.
For me it's a case of getting rid of SKY Sport (possibly the whole service - have to discuss with the Mrs) and buying the necessary equipment see we can view the games.

Correct - they are already broadcasting as a test on Freeview UHF only (not satellite) on ch.114 (punch the numbers in manually on your remote and do a re-scan on your box if necessary first - the channel doesn't appear on the Freeview Electronic Program Guide yet)
They will be permanently on Freeview ch. 14 within the next couple of months.
