Can't find anything in the media but does anyone know if the games will be in a databank or something similar so they can be watched delayed? Saw a quote from sky tv exec John Fellet saying they didn't want to pay more as it's not a fan friendly time anyway. Yeah no shit, that's why I got mysky you clown.

He reminds me of an american clive palmer.  He comes across as an arrogant twat.  He even said the breakers out rate the EPL.   New Sporting overlords have it for 3 years. Sky will bid again after that but only pay what they think it's worth.

No that's not it. It went "da da durr da da....  durn na dit"  and involved some great footage of a guy swing his arm round and round in celebration.   Help me out some one, you remember it.  If so did you sing along to my "da da durr da da"?

And that would be why they lost it in the first place. Yay. Oh well, guess I'll have to make a decision at some point. Need a bit of a computer upgrade for decent live streaming so there's a cost attached.

As brilliant as that was, no that's not it either. Big League Soccer it was called, Sunday arvos.

Forget it, I didn't mean to hijack this thread altho there is a slight link to Sunday TVNZ shows.

did you even listen to the interview - he said the breakers game against Perth would outrate all 7 games in the NBA final series between Spurs and the Heat - this was an example after saying the Nix on a sunday would outrate all the best 4 EPL games.

NFL was free for Nz last year, no idea why. But it was awesome :)

I signed up for NFL gamepass last year for free in the pre season. but never ended up watching any games, cause I thought it was just free for the pre-season.

Regardless, that's why you pay a fair bit for 5 sports channels, so you can decide what to watch. If it was just down to ratings then it would be All Blacks only across all channels. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a much more open thus cheaper tv market anyway. I feel dirty that I have to pay for E channel to get football.

Think the best news from this is an EPL game on free to air every week - will just get more people interested in football. Would like to see the Nix on FTA at some point too.

Yeah this is true. Know quite a few people who are pleased with the highlights show being free to air too. All good, I guess not having sky is now a more viable option for me. Think I'm contracted through until november though sadly.

This will be Chelsea games plus one other club (They are trying to get something similar from another club), they purchased the Chelsea TV rights which gives them delayed coverage (minimum 48hrs delayed) of every game Chelsea is part of.

Can't understand why Setanta still isn't in NZ.

Though I find it hard to justify keeping it, I still do. I'm not a high wage earner.

Foxsports sees the EPL as a major chunk of it's revenue stream & last season introduced the Barclay's PL app so us subscribers can watch on our iPhones & Pads (not android) but they already had an Internet registration & app (Go Foxtel) that allows us to watch what we're signed up for on our PCs & iPhones/iPads on up to two devices. I'm assuming they've done this in anticipation of an increase in competition from Internet sources.

I've always felt tv viewers in general let alone football lovers got a raw deal from both pay & FTA. I only see this as a good thing for you guys. Maybe this season I won't see so many comments on here fuming about a live A-League broadcast getting bumped for Rowing or whatever.

I'm just sorry the OFC TV deal didn't come off when it was proposed.

An hour of HD streaming will generally use between 1.5 - 2GB

Its not going to be HD. They have said a 2 hour game would use 1.2 GB.

on radiosport Tim Martin said it would be around 1.1GB per game on the 1600kbps. the 3000kbps would work out to be ~2.2GB

Yeah that's true. But the way I figure it is that its something they'll have to do eventually anyway. They either do it now and get EPL, or do it later when its perhaps more worth them doing it, but miss out on EPL.

Poll on the Stuff website:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/8814011/TVNZ-part-of-deal-for-football-rights

Opinion poll

How do you feel about Sky losing the rights to broadcast Premier League football?

It's a good thing for football fans and the future of pay sports TV.

It's bad. I like the Sky coverage and want to be able to access all sports on one subscription.

 Couldn't care less.

Result

Currently more (42.8 %) see it as a bad thing, whilst 37.7 % think it's good.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Also first mention I've seen in that article of a $99 package for all games without the "on demand" option.

That's only $12 / month which seems attractive.

Okay if you want to stay up all hours watching the games live , I guess...

Anyone out there with technical knowledge know if there's a way of recording a live stream like that?

Would this device sold on Trade Me work to record the stream from a TV onto a computer? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=605028213

There are a number of different devices available for recording live TV to PC, but I'm a little confused as to why you want to do that when EPL will be delivered via internet ? Are you asking if you can connect PC to TV to stream EPL and then record back to PC ?

I'm keen to support them - I used to have sky however it was so much money just to watch the A-League and Formula One + I was getting pretty pissed off with them. So now I just watch from work. However I like to support the underdogs so will give Premier League pass a try and hope that it leads towards a ground swell of a change in the way NZ does internet.

If they are broadcasting from within the country then the bandwidth should be cheap for the telcos so hopefully we get them unmetered.

So Telecom looking at discounting Coliseum's $150 to its customers, depending on what plan they they have. But not clear if that will also included any form of unmetering.

And Slingshot will definitely provide unmetered.
