Online bookies Betfair are offering 10,000 to the first player who celebrates a goal by 'doing the Taikai' - the name of its new predictions betting game - which involves a series of moves and karate chops.

After finding the net, a prospective winner must start with the Crane position - as made famous in the Karate Kid films - and finish with a series of karate chops to spell out a T and a K.

The Premier League have blasted the campaign and have instructed referees to caution any player who performs the celebration. Betfair say they are not withdrawing the offer and were encouraging players to give the money to charity.

There have been some great spontaneous goal celebrations in the past, said Andy Lulham of Betfair, but were hoping the financial incentive weve put up will help us secure the worlds first in-game advert.

Players who perform a goal celebration to endorse a new online gambling game have been told they will face disciplinary action.

Will any player be brave/stupid enough to pull out the dance moves?

Robbie Keane said that he was willing to risk a card and do it next time he scores.

Betfair responded by saying that unfortunately they couldn't wait that long and hoped another player would take up the challenge .

They'd give it to Charity and then it would be harder for the FA to do anything...

I doubt the clubs would let them do it though. They'd probably feel a little ripped off.

And Malky, your making you best player look bad.    Michael2008-11-26 11:01:23

WTF - The League are telling the refs to book players that do it.

The rules of the game state:

Celebration of a goal
While it is permissible for a player to demonstrate his joy when a goal
has been scored, the celebration must not be excessive.
Reasonable celebrations are allowed, but the practice of choreographed
celebrations is not to be encouraged when it results in excessive
time-wasting and referees are instructed to intervene in such
cases.
A player must be cautioned if:
in the opinion of the referee, he makes gestures which are provocative,
derisory or infl ammatory
he climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being
scored
he removes his shirt or covers his head with his shirt.
he covers his head or face with a mask or other similar item
Leaving the fi eld of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence
in itself but it is essential that players return to the fi eld of play as soon
as possible.
Referees are expected to act in a preventative manner and to exercise
common sense in dealing with the celebration of a goal.

Nowhere does it give scope for a league to dictate certain 'celebrations' deserve a booking - Refs operate under the auspices of the FA and guidelines of FIFA, it's not up to commercial entities such as the EPL to decide to make up new rules or conditions for cautions.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

You honestly think Robbie is our best player! Don't make me laugh.

My opinion of Mr Keane is well documented on the Liverpool thread and so far he is not doing much to prove me wrong.

Mr Keane does not need my help to make him look bad.

Malky, it was insulting Liverpool. I don't actually think he's your best player, I was just having a laugh at you.
