In honour of Fortean Times, thought i'd start an England topic

I ended up seeing it with no sound (?#*!)

so any cliches are all my own

I'm glad Estonia turned up wanting to play, made it much easier for england to find space.

Pleased Barry retained his position. Hoping that Owen's dummy/leave for Rooney's goal signals the developemnt of a bit of understanding between those two. Surprised by how well SWP took his goal, excellent first touch to put him past the defender.

Hopefully we can do the business on thursday morning.

grrr missed the game due to being under the weather and having a messed up sleep pattern. What was it like? Rooney on the score sheet at last. Blimey and what have the Scots been putting in their Irn Bru recently?

England looked a bit lethargic to me....didn't really create as many chances as i'd have liked to see

but hey, 3 points is 3 points, it's all about qualification

England just are not a very good team. Owen will never recapture his original talent and speed. Most of the midfield are boring. The tactics are boring. The games are mainly boring.

They look and play like a side that comes second in their qualifying group, struggle to the quarter finals then lose to a better (flair, tactics, excitement) team or another boring one with more committment (read Germany).

The coach is a typical product of the English FA coaching system - ie boring and risk averse.

Some of that is true, but to say they are not a very good team is a bit over the top. Yes the management is crap and mostly to blame for this, the players however are good and individually they are some of the best in the world, they all just need to be managed and coached better.

Individually, very few English players could be considered as some of the best in the world. Don't get me wrong, some of their players are good, but not that good.

I personally am not a fan of the English team, and could name well over 10 teams that could beat them relatively easily.

Name them then.

So what national team are you a fan of then loyalgunner

Hey i might be english, but i do follow kiwi football and  am know a resident here, am proud to follow kiwi football and support the teams, however i wont make digs about them, or mention the fact that they struggle to qualify for anything!

I support the All Whites, France and Ireland. Ireland and NZ because of my ancestry, and France because of their players and brilliant play.

And Buffon II, the teams that I think could beat England relatively easily are (in no particular order):

OK, that's not 10, but they are just the teams that I think could beat england rather easily. There are plenty of other teams out their that could beat england, but england in turn could probably beat them if playing well, teams like greece, spain, denmark, maybe turkey (I haven't seen Turkey play recently enough to be to sure).

Last night was crap from England.  The All Whites would have beaten them on that showing.  Worst game I've seen England play since I moved here in May.  Oh well come on England, beat the Yarpies.

This is semantics - you could say the same about England. Losing 2-0 to us flattered England, they lost to Russia - not a particularly great side by European standards - and struggled mightily against Macedonia and Israel.
The reality is there's very few teams in international football that are 'easily' beatable (with the exception of the likes of San Marino and American Samoa I suppose).
But there are plenty of teams around the world that are capable of defeating England on any given day, here's just a few:

If you are judging Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, and France by their recent results, then it's fair to judge England (in part) by their result against Russia, so in saying that, I stick by my original comment that was their are a decent few teams out their who could beat England relatively easily.loyalgunner2007-10-19 23:00:47

The point I'm trying to make is that there's very few international teams that are easily beatable - in Europe, none of the top 40-45 teams are easy beats, I know this for a fact having seen a lot of those teams play. To take your comment about the Dutch as an example, the group consisting of Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Albania and Belarus is NOT an easy group. So I think it's difficult to argue that England would be easily beaten by anyone, but there are plenty of teams out there capable of beating them on any given day.
