England squad: David James (Portsmouth), Scott Carson (Aston Villa), Chris Kirkland (Wigan Athletic); Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Curtis Davies (Aston Villa), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United) Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Ledley King (Tottenham Hotspur), Nicky Shorey (Reading), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Micah Richards (Manchester City) Matthew Upson (West Ham United), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham Hotspur); Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham Hotspur), Owen Hargreaves (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), David Bentley (Blackburn Rovers); Emile Heskey (Wigan Athletic), Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) Michael Owen (Newcastle United), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Peter Crouch (Liverpool)

Your thoughts? I think Robert Green can feel extremely aggrieved to be left out for Chris Kirkland.

No Darren Bent either. Capello has something against East Anglia.

Is this him playing a through ball for the opposing strikers or him about to fall backwards on his ass? I notice the empty grandstand behind him

It's a travesty Karl Duguid hasn't been called up. He's better than f**king Gerrard.

At that age he was superb.  He turned to sh*t at Newcastle.

We make 'em good, then Premier League clubs turn them to garbage.

Actually, he looks a bit like Denzel Washington in that photo. Sure you didn't photoshop it HN?

England U-21's back when he played for a real football club.

There is another one with him in the Red kit as well.

I can't believe James, and to a lesser extent Kirkland, got in ahead of Robert Green. Madness. Disappointed to see Wes Friggin' Brown there too, I'll ask it again, what do people see in him?
There's a couple of players who I would have liked to have seen given a call. I really rate Tom Huddlestone at Spurs, big lad and a great passer. He brings to mind Duncan Edwards, although he's obviously a bit short of that standard right now. I would also liked to have seen David Wheater of 'Boro get a sniff,  a big, ugly centre back who can cause havoc in opposing penalty areas.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Hwo the f**k does Calamity James keep on getting picked?? Is he blowing someone in the FA? An average keeper at very best and has been for the last 17 years!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

To be fair David James is an excellent premiership keeper.  In the absence of someone really good I think you could pick any of the english premiership keepers and they would be much the same.  Okay most of the time but prone to a complete blow out.

What about big Hes?!?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Hesky worked well with Owen before he (Emile) got injured last year

but it doesn't seem like a partnership for the future

however - Bently, Agbonglahor, Young and Richards could provide the start of a new era

I think until spurs decide what he is best at, England will wait. BUt I tend to agree with your assessment. If he can increase his mobility then Midfield calls because his passing is excellent. But we might find he becomes a cultured Centre back in the way Hansen was, but with the physique of a Middleweight boxer!

Agreed, this explains it:

I have also worked very closely with Stuart Pearce on squad selection and there are some players like Joe Hart, Aaron Lennon, Theo Walcott and David Wheater who are with the U21s this time because they have a very important qualification game against Ireland on Tuesday. In the future these are players that could feature in the senior squad. I believe it is very important for everyone that the U21 team does well and I want to help them achieve success with Stuart.
