Owen 2 goals,

well done Heskey, nice knock down for Owen's second

commentators hinting that Gerrard and Barry is working better than Gerrard & Lampard -- hard to disagree  -that combo has never looked ideal in my view!!

Morning Tigers,

People are always trying to write off Owen and he comes back time and time again. Quality finishing. They seem to be all over Heskey and leaving Owen clear.  Good display by everyone. Terry has had a lazy mo or two and SWP has been a bit wasteful but still linking up well with Richards. Barry and Gerrard are the best pairing in midfield I've seen England for ages. Please McClaren don't change anything!

and a very pleasant morning it is Fortean and all

hiiddink (one of the best in the game imo) has got Russia to be a bit more fluid this half

commentators seem to be critical of Ash Cole awareness at the mo

yes class finishing by Owen, great to see him back and on song

much the same as fans sl*g off Owen, I always wondered why they couldn't see Heskey's ability as a provider and as someone who draws defenders and wears them down (the others get the glory)

The problem is that Heskey's always been judged on his scoring record, which for both club and country is only average. What he brings to the team is his "scariness" to opposing sides and his hold-up play is excellent, always has been. With Crouch, Rooney and maybe Johnson (forget Defoe, flatters to deceive) as other options when considering the opposition all of a sudden things look a whole lot better.
And it's going to be really hard for Lumpard to get his place back now, which has got to be good news.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

"scariness"

So that's the technical name for it , Very good performance by England today. Heskey, Owen, Barry the standouts. Rio Cole need to know they are defenders and ball playing should not happen in and around your own box, other than that nothing really to complain about.

I think what used to piss people off with Heskey at his time at liverpool, particularly in the latter part of his time there, was he would  go over all the time at the slightest touch, which for such a big strong striker was really annoying. Also his confidence at Liverpool just seemed to evaporate near the end.

The game was good, I'm suprised thar Russia was so bad to be honest. Rio's goal was cool although unlike England teams in the past, (myth or otherwise), the back four, Richards aside, look a little ropey at times despite having 2 clean sheets.

overall a solid performance by the English, 6 points needed, 6 points in the bag, they all did their part, they looked more confident and instead of sitting on a 1-0 lead they have pushed their opposition and ended up winning comfortably both times. WELL DONE ENGLAND!! WellArdGerrard2007-09-13 10:18:58
