Everton 1 Reading 0

Everton manager David Moyes:
"It was a good win and throughout the season you win all different ways. I don't think we were fortunate but we had to grind it out.

"I was a bit worried that we wouldn't score today. We can and will play better than we did.

"Credit to Reading who kept going right to the end and kept us under pressure."

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I love NZ sports fans. An aweful lot of fans come out of the woodwork when the results go the right way.
HUGE result and I can seriously see us winning the cup after a display like that. COYB.

Everton manager David Moyes said:
"It was a professional job and we put out a strong team. We couldn't take any chances.

"We didn't play particularly well (in the first half hour) so you have to give them credit.

"In the end the finishing quality got us the result. The first goal was crucial no matter who got it."

Fiorentina in the next round.

30 mins: GOAL YAKUBU! Cahill's ball across the face of the Manchester City six-yard box is fired home by Yakubu from close range at Hart's right-hand post. The home side appeal for offside but the goal is rightly allowed to stand.

38 mins: GOAL LESCOTT! Carsley's whipped cross from the left flank is met by a looping header from Lescott at the far-post. The ball drifts over the head of Hart and finds the back of the net to put Everton 2-0 up.

81 mins: Neville only has to play a simple pass to leave Yakubu with an open goal, however his pass is poor and Dunne is able to clear.
