Fair play to Barnsley.  Lots of luck, lots of passion and they took their chance.  No complaints from us.  Pompey fans must think they've died and gone to heaven.  It's yours to lose now.  Will be nice to see a non-big 4 team win it for once.

Would be nicer to see a non-EPL side win it.

Three for me, and two for them.

No, you are wrong. Historically, The Treble always referred to the League Championship, the FA Cup and the League Cup, the three domestic trophies, an achievement that has always proved undoable.
It wasn't until 1999 that United decided that it meant the European Cup/Champions League instead of the League Cup.
It is a bit like Liverpool winning "five" trophies in 2005, all of a sudden they were calling the Charity Shield a trophy, when no-one else has ever attached any sort of importance to it. Rearranging history for the sake of convenience.

When teams talk of the treble now they usually include the CL. When Liverpool won the FA, League and UEFA Cups in 01 it was called the 'Cup treble'. So pretty much the hardest treble is the one which includes the CL.

Three for me, and two for them.

agreed Buffy and  JD - great for the competition to have the upsets

and good for all the clubs who are normally overshadowed by the big four

Yeah, we're both right really. It is more a case of specifying exactly which "treble" you mean.
Anyway, like just about everyone on here, I'm happy to have a tournament in which the winner, and indeed the finalists, are totally unpredictable going into the semis.

Great results this morning. Typical Manure fans blaming the ref.

Almost as bad as Sir Al Sux Fergutlesson. A very very very rare penalty against them at Old Trafford. Manure had 89 other minutes in which they could/should have scored. But as per normal at Manure, always blame others instead of themselves. And you wonder why non Manure fans dislike you so much?

Not being gracious in defeat would be one classic example as to why. And that poodle Ronaldo was so "scared". f**ken hell man, handle it. You have the skill, deal with it like a man instead of sounding like Michael Jackson. Perhaps Fergutlesson would not bitch so much if it had been well known Manure fan Mike Riley refereeing.....

Bitter Fergie blasts ref's chief Hackett after defeat

<!-- end pagetitle -->

Sir Alex Ferguson blasted referee Martin Atkinson and his boss Keith Hackett after Manchester United's treble dream went up in smoke today.

<!-- new alias = AUS_england_story_300x250 --><!-- new key = 360+story;kvpage=story;kvcc=AUS;kvsection=england;kvclub=360;kvaid=514665;grp=3418064 --><!-- Tag // Tag for network 605: ESPN TN // Website: ESPN SC Keyword Site // Page: All // Placement: 300 X 250 (1181107) -->Sulley Muntari handed Portsmouth a shock FA Cup quarter-final win from the penalty spot to secure his side's place at the Wembley semis.

United wasted more than enough chances to win the match but manager Ferguson chose to vent his fury at Atkinson and took at swipe at Hackett, who is in charge of officials.

Ferguson felt United had a blatant penalty denied when Cristiano Ronaldo was blocked by Sylvain Distin.

'It's absolutely ridiculous,' said Ferguson, whose side were denied the chance to repeat their 1999 treble success.

'I cannot explain it. Managers get sacked because of things like that and he's going to referee a game next week.'

He added: 'He (Hackett) is not doing his job properly and he needs to be assessed.

'I'm assessed as a manager, players are assessed, referees should be assessed properly by the right people. That performance today should not be accepted by our game.'

Ferguson's assessment was echoed by winger Ronaldo who claimed he is 'scared' at not being given enough protection and revealed he may change his style of play.

He said: 'The referee today was unbelievable. After five minutes, there had been three fouls - but he didn't give any cards.

'Then I do not get the penalty. It's very disappointing.

'He [Distin] didn't try to take the ball; he came straight to me, and when this happens it's difficult to play football. It's a joke.

'This is the best league in the world. But I'm scared sometimes because some players do unbelievable fouls, and the referee protects the defender - not the skilled players.

'I'm thinking a lot about changing my game, because this happens. They don't give penalties, don't give yellows, don't give reds - it's difficult to play like that.'

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp insisted Distin had done nothing wrong.

He said: 'Distin is strong and used his body properly. I would have been disappointed if a penalty had been given.'

Redknapp revealed the seeds of today's surprised Old Trafford win were sewn in the dressing room.

He admitted he was fearful of his side's chances after losing to United in January, while Portsmouth had not won on the ground for 51 years.

That was why he played mind games with his players in the minutes leading up to kick-off.

He said: 'When I saw United's team on the notice board, I was a bit surprised because I thought they would rest Ronaldo and (Wayne) Rooney.

'I told my lads they were good players but they needed to go out and prove it. To their credit, they worked their socks off.

'We knew it would be a tough game as it was a draw no-one wanted.

'We came here a few weeks ago, lost 2-0 and it could have been 10.

'Of course we rode our luck today. You know United are going to get chances as they are a fantastic team.

'You have to take your opportunities when they present themselves.'

The turning point of the game came in the 77th minute when Portsmouth were awarded a penalty after goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak - who had replaced Edwin van der Sar at the break - tripped Milan Baros.

Kuszczak was sent off and replaced by skipper Rio Ferdinand. However, the defender was given no chance with Muntari's cool spot-kick.

It is the third time Redknapp has enjoyed beating United in the FA Cup.

He did it first of all for minnows Bournemouth in 1984 and against with West Ham in 2001.

This is the first time the veteran boss has advanced beyond the quarter-finals but said: 'I am not getting too carried away.

'I have had a number of beatings from United over the years, don't forget.

'I was hoping Sulley would just hit the target as I knew Rio at West Ham and he is not the best goalkeeper.

'It is marvellous for our supporters and the club we are going to Wembley for the semis. It will be their greatest day for years.

'It probably means more to our fans than those of Manchester United as you can get a bit blasi about these things.'

That's not the reason I dislike Man Utd a lot of the time LG. The reason for me is the way the club have used Munich as a marketing tool for the last 50 years, while paying scant attention to the survivors and families of the victims. They have turned a terrible tragedy into a rallying call for fan expenditure, and that's not on.

Well done Barnsley....you wrecked my Sunday and made my coffee taste bitter but fair play to ya....fully deserved!!

I hope you can go all the way now after your two amazing results against Liverpool and now us......

It made my Sunday morning slightly more bearable when the commentators referred to the Portsmouth result over Man U.

Good luck to both Barnsley and Cardiff......

I guess Sheffield United is strictly one of those, given that the town is not united behind one team.

Here's hoping my new dream comes true. Barnsley, Portsmouth, Rovers & Cardiff.

Even more scarey, my updated post. 3 out of 4! No, I don't do sports betting.

Andy's pick? Portsmouth  V WBA Final. The most attacking and entertaining FA Cup final since Spurs V Man City!

Damn got tbat wrong. Shame, will be a great semi.

Portsmouth v Cardiff City. Who does everyone want to win?
Sorry about all you underdog lovers but I'd like to see Pompey win mainly due to the amount of ex Arsenal players in the team and Rodders as assistant.
Besides, any team that knocks ManYoo out deserves to win it.

Pompey for me, Can't stand Baardiff sh*tty. I wonder if their racist looney element will show up and go at Kanu, Campbell etc? Although if Calamity James is playing, it might be a closer game. He usually is not home for important games.

I just want to point out what I said back in January (maybe even December) about this year's competition... (Go on, check page 1 of this thread)...

"I'm picking this year to be one in which a surprise team make the final, and possibly the first since 1980 for a lower division side to win it. Sadly it won't be Orient - Bristol Rovers did away with us - but I reckon someone like Preston or WBA (I know you'd love me to say QPR...) might get swept along in a cup run and go all the way. It's time for a change - the so called Big 4 have dominated for the last ten years. Boring... "

The FA have explicitly stated they would not allow that to happen.

Cardiff City will probably complain to UEFA if they do win the Cup, and that would then become a very interesting story....

Yeah, another reason why i want them to win.

Complete shambles for the FA and UEFA and pure elation for the underdogs, Cardiff.

Nah, we were on a loser drawing Chelski, although they only went through on a jammy own goal as it was! Your prediction has proved correct thus far.
