...From representing Scotland, after the pair were caught on camera doing the V-sign while sitting on the bench in Scotland's qualifier against Iceland earlier this week.

The SFA received numerous complaints from irate Scottish fans, and decided to ban both players from ever representing Scotland again. Ferguson has also been stripped of Rangers' captaincy.

The video evidence of the incident is here, about 40 seconds in.

There is no room for low lifes in football. Good job.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Not good role models..not overly mature....probably didnt deserve life bans tho...some stars have got less for getting totally wasted or small acts of random violence

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

actually come to think of it -a life ban for your county- not sure the punishment fits the crime. Bit like that kid in Gisi fined $750 for skateboarding

Lol, we did the casual finger in yr6, immature losers. Rough punishment though, that sort of thing would reduce Vinny Jones to tears. Although I disagree with it not fitting the crime, you be a sh*tface while repping for your country, why should your country give you the responsibility back?

They also got drunk the night before the match. Ban deserved.

Three for me, and two for them.

A childish act quite surprising from two professional footballers, If only the NZRFU would dish out similar punishments for player behaviour off the feild. Lonegunmen2009-04-05 23:05:24

When your country needs to win every remaining game in qualifying to go to the WC, this kind of behavior shouldn't be tolerated, and the lifetime ban obviously shouldn't worry the players as it appears representing their country is of little concern to the them.

So if they were comfortably qualifying then the behaviour should somehow be viewed differently?

Childish behaviour, sure. But it's still a punishment that doesn't fit the crime.

They are both on the way out of Rangers at the end of the season as well, according to reports in the Scottish papers.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

The way standards are today it might be over the top, however if you want to fix the w**ker attitude, then this is the way to fix it.
I think it is great. Sends a message.

Exactly and hopefully a few ego filled "super stars" might take note of it as well.

Hopefully they start using this sort of tactic to get some of the dirty sh*t on  the field as well.

when you are a passionate scottish supporter at hampden park 52000 people and you are watching your nation with the pride i have and most other scottish people have and the  best flower of scotland you will ever hear.  Then it was a deserved ban and you pay to watch your country you dont expect your idols to act like 5 year olds

To be honest, they're no great loss. Ferguson has consistently under achieved for Scotland and I think Craig Gordon is a better keeper than McGregor. From what I can gather, McGregor is a complete and utter moron anyway. Good riddance to both of them.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
