Well done Hull. I hope you give the top flight a good shot.

Nice to watch some football (apart from premier league)  that was not covered by the idiots at ESPN

You know though Tigers, that when your newbies come up against teams with bags of topflight expereince, the boys on these forums may not be so nice to you, if you should say manage to beat one of our teams. People will all be about the good luck and were glad for your achievement. But come the start of the season, your just another team who will want to be trying to take points off of the others, and then we will see what others say about the glory of your reaching the promised land.

I mean what would my fellow Gooners say, if you say managed to score an equaliser in the last minute of a game which we have bossed over you, and we manage to draw. What would the West Ham fans say, if you turn them over away, or the Pompey fans if you beat them at Fratton.

I guess they wouldnt be so nice to you.

But enjoy it, and buy wisely

Great goal by Windass. Can't believe he's 39. Same age as me. Maybe I should make a comeback.

just printing out this topic to keep as a souvenir of the season   haha

77 fun packed paper pages

a mate a work (a certain spurs fan with a 'talent' for punning) asked me if i was still coming down from the high,

I reckon i'm still on my way up on the emotional roller-coaster that is being a City fan

(in theory i don't need to start coming down til mid-August - though pre-season results might cause a revision of that idea  )

i hope we buy wisely

Well, us "Tigers" are going to be up against it for a start. Our wage bill last season was the biggest in the Clubs History - 8 Million Quid. Yes, I can see the greater percentage of Premier League Club Supporters rolling round the floor laughing their Gordon Ramsey ar5es off!
We have made an approach to Ivan Campo but told him that he would have to take a 50% cut on his current wages of 50 thousand quid per week to which he is reported to have declared that if he is going to play for peanuts then he will go back to his home team of Real Mallorca where he will be feted as a hero (and enjoy the Spanish sunshine to boot).
There will be an increase in admission fees next season and I would imagine that the owners of the KC Stadium (who charge Hull City a 'peppercorn' rent) will no doubt inform Mr Duffen that the cost of peppercorns has risen alarmingly.
There is every chance that we will now retain Frazier Campbell for a further 1 year loan - he is unproven at Premier level remember.
Every effort will be made during the close season to train Caleb Folan's right leg to go in the general direction of his left leg which, if successful, could make him quite formidable.
Dean Windass, whom some fans have called for a Knighthood, is shortly to be immortalized with not only a statue in front of the KC Stadium but also a thoroughfare named after him. His appearances next season though will never be as dramatic but nevertheless will bring the partisan home crowds to their feet whenever he is brought on and will no doubt motivate his team mates. Nick Barmby and Jay-Jay Ococha will play a smaller roll.
With about 6 players being earmarked as potential signings (make that 5 now that Campo appears to be out of the equation) but with a 'peppercorn' wage bill to match our 'peppercorn' rent we will (imo) have to rely heavily on some very shrewd loanee's.
I thought I'd do my little bit for the Club and mentioned young Jin-Hyung Song, Newcastle Jets attacking Korean under 20 international midfielder, to the so-called 'insiders' of Hull City AFC on the message boards, as a potential signing and was told that "We don't even scout Europe so Australia is out of the question"!
I doubt we will attract anyone of note and our scouts appear to be non-existent except for the grimy depths of West Yorkshire ('Tha knows') where one was reported in Barnsley.
When the euphoria has died down and we face the might of the 'Big Four' in the Premier League only then we will come back down to the real world of top flight football.
It has been a one hundred and four year roller coaster ride and we will not let go of our new found status easily.

just go knocking on the doors of the big four and ask if they have any players they can "borrow" for a year. You will be suprised at the level of talent that you can get, just so the big clubs can blood some youngsters.

Oz tiger - i (and some wag  - in the old fashioned sense of the word) reckon he's to good for a knighthood- henceforth he should be called "Lord "Windass of Hull"

Proak on another topic was referrng to "the Hull city home for ageing footballers" - he isn't far off the mark

agree UG  - loans might be our best bet (less risk) but we don't have roy keane's connections (mind you Phil Brown's done alright so far in his recruiting)

toffeeman - it's still all magical

If you've a couple of hours to spare you can read all about us by Googling  "Kingston Upon Hull Wikipedia" and find that we are indeed "Kings Town upon (the River) Hull" originally named "Wyke"! This was far to long for us locals who, over the centuries, have shortened it to the more appropriate "'ull". We also have an exclusive accent referring to 'something' as "summat"  and we have often "gorra curled" (Got a cold) as well as some beautiful pearlers in the way of expression such as my Dear Old Granny who once said (after I'd bounced a soggy wet tennis ball onto the ceiling leaving a dirty splotch) "Yer rotten little sod, ah've bin on me 'ands and knee scrubbin' that ceiling all mornin'"! When sometimes asked for an opinion we have a habit of saying "Well, me, myself, personally, I, think...."!  Why use one word when you can use four!
But WHO CARES! WE ARE IN THE BL**DY PREMIER LEAGUE!

I read on the Hartlepools board that Phoenix target Joel Porter has now signed a new contract which has killed all hopes of the 'Phoenix' signing him for next season.
Word on the Hull City boards is that since winning promotion to the EPL there are a number of players who will have their contracts paid out including striker Michael Bridges who had a short loan spell with Sydney FC just before Xmas.
Prospective A-League consortium 'Gold Coast Galaxy' had Michael as their number one target prior to their franchise failing earlier this year. It was also rumoured that Harry Kewell was sponsoring an A-League side for the 2009/10 season where Michael (who is Harry's best mate from their day's at Leeds together) would play a Player/Youth Coach part.
There are rumours that Michael was being targeted by 'Pools' on the strength of Joel going to Phoenix but this has now fallen through. I believe that Michael's agent will be trying to seal a deal with an A-League Club in time for the forthcoming season.
The thick plottens folks!

Word on Vital Hull board is that we have offered 3 million for him, a price I personally think is far too much.

2005/6  Preston CCC 34 starts (5 off the bench) 11 goals 2 assists
2006/7  Preston CCC 43 starts (1 off the bench) 15 goals 5 assists
2007/8 Pompey EPL   15 starts (10 off the bench) 0 goals 1 assist

Hardly impressive for me.

There will be more to follow. Although two years in front of the "3 year plan" I am sure that Management have a financial infrastructure in place whereby any player who cannot 'cut the mustard' at this level will have to go. This, unfortunately, will include some players who have given their all for the Club but who will be classified as 'surplus to requirements' in the Premier League.
Players such as Michael Bridges will have their contracts paid out - why pay someone $10,000 per week to do nothing - whilst others will be given a 'free' transfer out of the Club.
This Management has declared that football at this level is a 'business' without sentiment and a business in the corporate world cannot compete by using plastic imitations. The new "21st Century Hull City" will have to bring in some quality and secure some huge sponsorship and investment just to survive.
We are in for a very exciting 'first season' of top-flight football and our first signings will be the subject of much anticipation.

certainly a change in the 'culture' of the club (which has been in progress since Pearson took over and Duffen has cemented this)

all season tickets sold (not surprisingly),

so, apart from any gaps in the away end, we should have a full house every week

some fans pissed of with the glory hunters snapping up season tickets - but i guess that's the price of success
