Hi All,
I have a request for all fans and especially the brotherhood that is Wellington Phoenix FC, and here is my request, and the reason behind it.
Ok, here goes.
Ive just noticed that our boys take to the field against The Central Coast Mariners on Dec 19th kick off 7.30pm.
I want to be THE MASCOT!!!! for this game. Why would a man who will be 35! on the day of this match want to lead a team out. Well 19 years earlier on the same date I was waking up to my 16th birthday knowing that I was going to Selhurst Park to be Arsenal mascot against Charlton for my birthday match on Boxing Day.
Now this game ws famous for Arsenal during that championship winning season, as we went top of the table with a 3-2 win, and we only came off the top of the table in the last week of the season after losing at home to Derby. Then as we all know what happened on the final Friday of the season, and in the final minute of the final match we snatched the title back down the M1 for the 1st time in eons!
Also an old man had a heart attack in the tunnel, I think he was one of Charltons stewards, and I never found out if he was ok. The Charlton mascot was a little kid called Ben who was 5, and the picture that was taken in the middle before KO had some bloke in a bear suit Tony Adams, next to me, Roger Millford the ref, little Ben and Peter sh*tcliff.
There is a ghost from my mascot past that needs to be rewritten as well. I clearly remember this event as if it was yesterday. The ball was played back from David Rocastle to Kevin Richardson, he then passed it to Brain Marwood, who layed one on a plate to me. I was standing bang infront of John Lukic just inside the penalty box, and taking a swipe at the ball, I hit it on the out steep, and instead of hitting the back of the net, I manged to hit the corner flag.
Well, I was a keeper and never a striker!
It would be the 1st time that I would of ever worn the black shirt of the Phoenix, as I always said that wearing another teams colours would be dispespectful to Arsenal, and I course I would be representing a group of fans that I have become very friendly with, a with a club that I have enjoyed watching and supporting, and has brought a real prof team to the city that I have come to call home.
How would I ask the club if I could do this, as this would be an amazing birthday present for me, and im sure that
Cheers for reading guys
