just in case anyone's interested

thought i'd start a topic for speculation, gloating and despair

i expect we might lose Zayatte and end up stuck with Cousin and Halmosi and i'd be surprised if we get anyone 1/16th decent in

(file that under 'despairing speculation')

Beckford to Newcastle

Hull City are plotting an ambitious 1.5m swoop for American striker Freddy Adu. The 20-year-old was sent out on loan by Benfica to fellow Portuguese club Belenenses but he has been axed him from their squad.

Fernando Torres will become the most expensive player in the world if he leaves Perennial strugglers Liverpool in the summer. Chelsea and Manchester City have made the Spanish striker their number one target, but would have to splash out 140m in transfer fees and wages.

Tony Lochhead will most likely be heading to Manchester United, as a mentor and guide for the comparitively novice left back Patrice Evra, unless Barcelona are willing to increase their previous offer of 270 million, discribed by Wellington Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata as "Totally disrespectful and insulting"
You know we belong together...

Nonsense.  All the Phoenix can do is allow other clubs to negotiate personal terms with Lochy.  Why would he want to go to a feeder club like Man U?

Everton to get a completely new squad. Oh wait, we're just getting all our injured players back. Seems like the same thing

Its no longer a problem.

Arsenal are still after a striker and hence are being linked with all and sundry.

Wenger has also indicated he may dip into the market for a central midfielder.

rumours that we'll let Jan V of H go off to 'Boro to join up with his waist-high former boss Gordon Strachan

I would not let a man with that name go, you will regret it,

I'm inclined to agree, if only for he money he brings in at the club shop!

it all depends if we can get rid of Cousin and a few others instead to save on wages

You guys were pretty heavily linked with Chamakh, but i read today he is supposed to have signed a pre-contract agreement with Perennial strugglers Liverpool.

Can't say i know too much about him, but his name keeps getting mentioned...

He has said he will only join a champions league club, so I would be extremely surprised!

Maxi has been past his best for a little while though from what i've seen of him recently. The fact that Atleti want to get rid of him and want Merida - a teenager- to replace him should suggest something to Perennial strugglers Liverpool.   I highly doubt he will be any better than Babel, Riera, Benayoun...etc

The daily mirror claim to have got their hands on Arsene Wengers shopping list for January, and it is in order apparently!  wow, thats convenient. Too convenient to be true...I think so.

anyways, it allegedly goes as follows:

7. Eden Hazard
6. Mario Balotelli

6 and 7 are said to be unlikely in January but at least one is probably for the summer as a long term option.

5. Carlton Cole
4. Gabby Agbonlahor

Villa however put a 20 million pound price tag on Agbonlahor, whereas cash strapped West Ham are likely to snap up any offer for Cole.

3. Marouane Chamakh

blah blah boring!  is going no where in January, likely to move in Summer. Meh.

2. Ruud Van Nistelrooy

Only on loan, and only if he can't buy a permanent player in January. Apparently seen as a good short term fix.

1. Edin Dzeko

23 years old. Arsene has been tracking him for years, long before any other club took notice of him. Wenger had a 10 mil offer turned down in the summer but is ready to come back with an offer of 20mil+ according to reports.

Australian Captain Lucas Neil has left Everton for Turkish club Galatasaray:

The fee was 800,000 pounds and he has signed a 1 and a half year deal.
Neill will link up with fellow Socceroo Harry Kewell and join the likes of Bruce Djite, Mile Jedinak, James Troisi and Michael Petkovic, who are all plying their trade in Turkey.

About 1.8 million more than he's worth.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Not sure why everton let him go, they are battling with injuries defensively and 800k quid is hardly mega bucks...

Vieira can't even keep up in Serie A, the Premier League is a much higher paced league. He's been long gone from the French national team, I don't think he'll be much of a threat.

Also because Wenger, Redknapp and a few other managers deemed him not up to standard
