LAMPARD AND ROONEY FURIOUS AT CAPELLO'S DECISION
Well, I for one thought that sacking JT for something entirely unproven, that didn't affect his footballing skills or leadership qualities, had nothing to do with football at all and replacing him with Rio Ferdinand - someone who admitted to failing to do a drug test after a game - was a STUPID idea. I thought that it was silly. However, it seems that some senior England players, including our own Frank Lampard, are entirely p*ssed off that John Terry has been stripped on the England captaincy.
Let's face it - the media have screwed our chances of actually doing well at the World Cup. Taking the best leader and captain we have out of his natural job, some four months before it all kicks off, is ludicrous. But, my thoughts are not alone. The impressive Wayne Rooney, and indeed the best midfielder in the Premiership, have (indirectly) voiced their opinions....
Last night, Wayne Rooney's mate, someone who grew up with him from the age of four, was spotted by a tabloid journalist in one of his favourite nights spots in Manchester. Obviously not being Wayne Rooney giving the comments, his pal (who has to remain unnamed due to editorial guidelines) said the following:
'Wayne isn't happy about the whole situation. He believes that John had the experience and leadership qualities to take us to World Cup success. Sacking him not long before the tournament starts is something that Roones doesn't think is right - take it from me, he isn't happy.'
That about sums it up in my eyes. Plus, Frank Lampard has refused to comment at all on the situation. He was asked directly by a journalist outside Cobham just before getting into his rather nice little car, the following question:
'Frank - do you agree with the decision to sack John Terry as captain of England?' Frank simply looked at the microphone, laughed and shook his head.
Axing John Terry is ridiculous. For something entirely unrelated to performance or on-field leadership is even more so. Why the hell couldn't the media release this story AFTER the World Cup? Why do our press love to ruin our chances of glory by helping take our inspirational leader's armband?
Don't get me wrong, this won't affect JT's performance in an England shirt at all. He's too professional and too good to let this affect him. But what it will do, as per the above, is p!ss off a couple of England's best talents as it's clear that John Terry is our best captain.
Furthermore, there's also a lot of rival-club supporters who (it's nice to see) are backing JT. Club loyalty aside, he is the best for the job, and on behalf of Vital Chelsea, I thank you all for your positive comments, regardless of who you support. We all want the best for England. And it's pretty obvious that JT is (was) our best captain for a long, long while.
In my eyes, this is Capello's first nail in his coffin.....
