(we don't really, although I now keep an eye out for their results, and highlights of their goals)

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Good idea Oldham fan. Great to see you at the top too. I look out for Stockport County results as my late Grandfather (Fathers side) came from Stockport.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

U must have noticed that Col U has a strong following on this forum.  Last year when we were in the Championship we enjoyed lots of mutual support and banter with QPR and Hull fans.  Maybe we can do that with Oldham.

The recent 2-2 draw between Col U and Oldham indicates both sides have reasonable sides.  So far Oldham have been more consistent.

We have some "big" clubs with us this year especially Leeds and Leicester.

Oldham have been there and there abouts for the last couple of years in League 1, couple of playoff visits but never managing to make that final step. hopefully it will be this year!

Only one playoff visit in the last couple of seasons - 2006/07. Oldham finished 8th last season, 9 points off the playoffs. They've had a couple of playoff appearances in the 11 seasons completed since coming down from the Championship. Looking good this year so far though.

With Leicester and Leeds expected to be strong, it's going to make the push for promotion difficult for the rest of us.

The prediction engine on my League One sheet says Oldham will go up as runners-up to Leicester. Early days though, with current form not quite smoothed out until we get another 4 games or so.

I'd love your home form and our away form. We're unbeaten away and without a win at home. At Brighton we went into the season feeling upbeat, what with the return of Micky and Virgo, but it's not coming together yet.

Good to have a League One thread - nice one.

3-3 draw for the Latics this morning, keeps us top. If we learn to keep goals out this could be a pretty spectacular season

I'm getting dizzy Millwall are so high up Divvy One.
Permalink Permalink

Make the most of it coz I dont think Millwall have the quality to chase the top positions this season.

I expect Leicester and Leeds to start dominating from now on.  It will be good to see the free flowing and scoring Oldham hang on with them.

Carlisle too have a shot of being up the top.

Col U will climb the table when things are sorted...too much quality around for it to be otherwise.

Free flowing Oldham reminds me of the glory years of the early 90s when we had Andy Ritchie, Earl Barret and a guy Holden... whose name i cannot remember at the moment. Good times

Andy ritchie if used wisley would have been a super star at Man U. his goalscoring returns were incredible. He later proved to be just as good as a manager although he's faded in the last 8 years. Anyone know where he is now??

From Wiki:

Ritchie was appointed Huddersfield Town manager on April 11, 2007.[4] He left the club by mutual consent on 1 April 2008 after an indifferent season, following the embarrassing 4-1 defeat at Oldham Athletic on 29 March.[5] He managed the team for 51 games, winning 22, losing 24 and drawing 5. The highlight was undoubtedly the FA Cup run which saw Town win against Birmingham City and before bowing out to Premier League outfit Chelsea in the 5th Round, the first time the club had been that far for 10 years.

He is currently doing punditry for BBC Radio Leeds, but is in the frame for the vacant manager's job at Football League Two side Grimsby Town, following the sacking of Alan Buckley.

Perhaps you should tell us about the pinch-me season of 1990/91 (I think that years right)? You never talk about it usually!!

We nearly mugged Northampton. After listening to the match, I was disappointed not to take three points. After all, we went 2-1 up in the 94th minute. Northampton's 96th minute equaliser was more than deserved though, so no real complaints.

What was the pattern of the Oldham game against Huddersfield? For a while, it looked (well, sounded given it's radio commentary) like it was going to be the first defeat of the season.

We equalised in the 50th after going behind in the 20 something, stats look pretty even. How old is Mark Crossley the keeper? Im sure he was in the premiership last time we were there, funnily enough soon after the pinch me season!

I didn't realise you had Crossley. He's only 39 - I thought he was older until I checked.

You need a fine defensive strategy like us. If you get a man dismissed and let us take the lead, we will sit back let you score in injury time. It's becoming a habit... and we have Leeds this weekend.

Col U have a new manager!  See Col U thread.

I expect us to climb the table now.  We have quality players inc several internationals.  Start with a win over Cheltenham this week.

Success at this level requires you to have a regular goalscorer, a free kick specialist and a stingy non nonsense defence.....

So this thread has died somewhat.
The mighty Latics sitting in the playoff zone, pretty bunched around the top of the table however. How are everyones teams doing?

About as healthy as this thread! We're trying to keep out of the relegation zone. Going to be a clencher of season.

Still, we're unbeaten this year.... we just haven't played yet due to frozen pitches.

How awesome is it that games have to get called off due to frozen pitches! I just can't comprehend it to be honest, mindew the last time I was in the motherland Oldham were at home once while I was there and it got frozen off, I was less than impressed. Went and watched City instead, not nearly as satisfying

Col U have their own thread, but we are happy to join in the wider one too.

ColU are on the way up back to where they should be.  Play off contenders.

Currently on a good run of form....draw 1-1 at MK Dons was good although we should have won in last minute of injury time when Gillespie missed a sitter.

Wont be long before we are up to that vital 5th to 8th place area......

Leeds seem to be going the opposite way!!!!!

Millwall, Oldham and Dons look good still as well as the obvious in Leicester City (will money talk in the end?).

Sad to see Crewe so far down...they have produced some great players over the years.

we've decided that it's all to easy to comply with standard football mentality and try and win each game, or even strive for promotion - after the heady heights of record debt, multiple relegations and voluntary administration, we fancy mid-table obscurity in the glamour of division 3.

Yes,hmmmm.....

I think that as Nottingham Forest found out before you that it takes time to rebuild effectively.  Often at this level singing well known players or ones with higher division experience doesnt always work.  Col U, Sc**thorpe, Doncaster and Blackpool have all shown in recent years that a strong team ethos plus players with drive and understanding of the systems of football at this level are what are needed.

Also you need managers who understand what is needed at the level.

Leicester are different in that they should never have allowed themselves to go down and their squad is clearly way too strong for the division.

I am sure that soon Leeds will rise again.

Question  why are Swindon so poor this year?

For f**ks sake, Oldham lost 5-0 to Hereford, Hereford for f**ks sake! They are in the relegation zone!

These things happen to all teams...usually about once a season.  Hereford are a poor team but obviously had a bit of the run of the ball on the day.  I wouldnt let it get you down.

I think Oldham are an attractice team and good for the division; probably now only a playoff contender...Hereford will probably join Crewe, Cheltenham and ano in the drop at the end of the year.

New season coming soon. We're away to Walsall and have made a lot of changes to the squad. We missed out on Paul Ifill, but as with the Nix I can forgive him!

We've signed Gary Dicker from Stockport after his loan spell, Graeme Smth from Motherwell, James Tunnicliffe from Stockport, Mark Wright from MK Dons, Alan Navarro from MK Dons, Liam Dickonson from Derby and got Matt Thornhill on loan from Forest. There are more, but I can't remember the rest.

Great news for Jim McNulty. He ruptured a kidney after an innocuous on-pitch collision last season and for a while it looked like the end of his career, but he played 20 minutes in a pre-season match over the weekend.

Shame to see Kerry Mayo retire - the last of the Albion players who had played at the Goldstone Ground. Still, the work to build Falmer Stadium has started - roll on three seasons from now!
