[QUOTE=Everton FC]Expectations for season too high - Rafael Benitez

Following the 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea, Perennial strugglers Perennial strugglers Perennial strugglers Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez says the problems the club suffered throughout the season were "difficult to manage" because "expectations were too high".

This is a shocker Rafa. I feel like he is starting to make lame excuses, expectations too high, goalposts changed, owners backed out on there promises blah blah. Sorry Kop was trying to stay positive but can't do it today.

How about Roy Hodgson as the new manager?

Last season we seemed to be a-healthy-Torres away from the title.

Now we seem to need upgrades in all areas. The summer will be interesting, signings, owners and managers to deal with, it seems we will never get to build the Stanley Park stadium.

Can't be too disappointed though, get to watch the All Whites at The World Cup.

I stumbled across that rumour last night. I think it was the Guardian so take it (as usual) with a grain of salt. Wouldn't be upset if we got him though...

Interesting reports coming out now that there are no offers for Rafa and he want's to stay at 'Pool.
Either it's a flat out lie from his manager or maybe some offers coming in for the Club keeping Rafa interested? Who knows...

I never said that was the only game I watched. I have see them play heaps. My comment was on the Chelsea game, but overall they have been poor this year.
I picked them to be in the top three.

The meeting between Perennial strugglers Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, new chairman Martin Broughton and managing director Christian Purslow that took place earlier today was described as constructive and the first of what is intended to be a series of meetings.

A Perennial strugglers Liverpool statement said: We are pleased that the first of what is intended to be a series of meetings took place today between the chairman, managing director and the manager.

The meeting was constructive.

The chairman shared his views about plans for the future of the club. There was an exchange of views on issues of concern to both the board and the manager which were either addressed or to be picked up in forthcoming meetings.

It remains to be seen what the true outcome of the meeting was and whether Rafa Benitez got the assurances he sought, namely that he be able to re-invest any money from sales this summer into new purchases. Chances are that only one of the trio will be forced to answer questions on the meeting at a press conference, and that will be at Rafas regular pre-match meeting with the media later in the week.

Take it anyway you want, at least they're talking... It does make you wonder what Rafa's plans are though. If he keeps talking with LFC it either means he's keen to stay or Juve have lost interest.

i just want a decision and an announcement  to be made about the managerial future of the club before the world cup. wouldnt be suprised if it dominated the headlines the whole transfer and all we end up doing is signing jovanovic

Good interview with Broughton here. Obviously a lot of it is scripted and i'm sure a bit of gloss to make it appealing but a few constants throughout the interview:

1. Broughton only expects to be in the role for a "matter of months".
2. Expects the club to sell in a "matter of months."
3. "Torres and Gerrard are not for sale at any price"
4. "It's business as usual"
5. Rafa is evaluating the needs of the club from a player perspective. Who stays, who goes and who do we need.

It appears to have been taped since the meeting with Rafa as there are a few mentions of the meeting.

22 questions for the Chairman

Had a quick look over players coming off contracts on Bosman/Free (*sigh*... has come to this). But there are a few names that might be interesting. Morten Gamst Pedersen, Martin Petrov. How much worse has Ruben Baraja been in the past 2 years?

Heard rumours of Carragher coming out of retirement to join England.

Well, thankfully the pain is over.

0-0 against the relegated Hull really sums up our season.

Rafa wants to stay

"I wanted to stay and would like to stay if everything is fine. It would not be easy to leave," he said.
"I was in a meeting with the chairman and he was talking about how positive it was. I expect to meet with him again in the next week.
"It has always been the same situation: I decided to come here because of the fans and the club."
"If I stay I am not thinking about selling Gerrard and Torres - just in case 'senior sources' say different things," the Reds boss added.
"It is very clear. The chairman was clear, he doesn't want to sell. The manager is clear, just in case you see any exclusive interviews with senior sources."

I'm in two minds about Rafa. 1. I want a fresh start and 2. I don't think it's wise to focus on new owners and new manager at the same time, not in our current climate and form anyway.

If Rafa wants to stay and we have new owners then so be it. If we don't get the new owners then the strained relationship between owners and manager needs to be settled which is probably solved with a new manager. A costly exercise at that.

Not sure about Rafa. In my opinion some fairly questionable tactical choices. Continual playing of Lucas and mascha together in midfield at home when we should have attacked more, not enough playing of Aquaman and Babel. Still he seems to be in high demand form other clubs so maybe with a good budget and support from his owners etc.

I just hope all this crap gets sorted soon

Just had a squiz at their other ventures:

1. Corinthians FC, Brazil - Bought the club, had success the first year then sold up after promising to build a stadium and then getting into financial difficulty. The club got in big trouble within a couple of years of ownership.

2. Texas Rangers - Did fantastic the first year. Rangers won the AL division, money troubles hit over the next few years. Promises to rebuild the club. Sells Alex Rodriguez to the Yankees and finishes last a season later.

3. Dallas Stars - Seems to be a club that has done pretty well under Hicks. He has sold his majority share of ownership recently.

4. Montreal Canadiens - Appears to have done fairly well but Gillet has had to sell up to cover his failings.

5. Richard Petty Motorsports (NASCAR) - Currently in the crapper. Defaulting on US90m dollar loans.

6. LFC - Currently being run into the ground.
