And as if to back up my post, I just found this!

Explains it much better that I did...

Liverpool to stay clear of big-money signings in January transfer window

You did it well too Kop!

That's a great policy long term although I do wonder if it means that short term we may struggle to compete. Still it's much better to be sustainable in the long term and we do have plenty of good young fellows coming through. We can probably thank rafa for that

Biggest thing first though is getting rid of the dead wood.

The trick will be getting rid of the likes of Poulsen who once Roy leaves has no place in the team. Also we'll get no money for him so we cut our losses? Sell him to Wolves maybe...

Whose gotta go?

Babel...Poulsen....Maxi? (I know he played well against Blackburn). What about those loan signings, do we still pay for them at all? Degen,Insua,  Aqualani (although I wouldn't mind seeing him back) Tyler2010-10-28 10:58:10

Yeah, Dani seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Is Roy using him as a scapegoat from the Northhampton game? Hmmm, such a shame, I hope he doesn't ruin this kid.

Yes, I LOVE the Jonjonator  Seriously though, Shelvey looks the business.

Yeah, agree. Think there are one or two brill players coming through, and a lot of decent ones. if we can get some first teamers from them, then that'd be great.

I doubt Wolves would want him! I still like Maxi and think he's worth a place in the sqaud. Babel, go. Poulsen, go. Degen, go. I still would prefer Insua over Konchesky, and don't know whyyyy we let Aquilani go.

Forgot to come back to this...

Agree with Babel and Poulsen. Maxi needs to stay, the one thing we can't do is completely cull the squad, that would derail us in another direction altogether.

Babel though we can recoup money for him. Birmingham were prepared to about 9m. If we get anything close to that, go for it. Poulsen, take a dollar if you can.

Others:
Aquilani
Degen
El Zhar
Itandje
Aurelio (don't renew contract)

I have to say that the contract extension for Carra really irks me. I love the guy, no doubts, he's been huge for us for many years but he's getting to the point where he shouldn't be a certain starter anymore. Guys like Skrtl and Agger need to be the go to men with Carra and Soto doing the hard yards off the bench (Although i'd have Soto starting right now)

I wonder if they will start to move him into management? Well they should anyway because as you say, he is getting on a bit. I do think that he would be the type of player who would realise this and say that he doesn't want to play on if his type of play wasn't at the level required. Possibly when the new long term manager comes in they might make the call

Apparently not. A few journos have admitted they've known about Nando's clause for a few months. It was a result of his 3 day meetings after the world cup.

Serious?....OK I love Nando but would it be the end of the world if he left? What would get for him? $30 million (don't know where to find pounds) Surely we could find a replacement for him for that. Not saying I want him to leave just putting it out there!!

Not that I'm an expert on the Reds' academy, but Jack Robinson is a definite prospect.  Thomas Ince could be pretty useful, too.

i guess its all about comparisons...  compared to the phoenix you've got an awesome set of youngsters coming through lol

compared to arsenal? woeful

our carling cup wwin over newcastle had not one first choice player (if you say walcott then you're leaving out nasri or arshavin)

and if lucas is a youngster coming through then wow... isnt he the  same age as fabregas?

Koscielny, Eboue and Rosicky are youngsters coming through?

Also, I'm surprised to hear that young Fabregaz (or whatever his name is - Iberian or Latin midfielder who came on for the last 20 minutes) hasn't managed to cement a place in Arsenal's first team...

Yeah, but you also have had much longer to establish a top scouting system, Academy etc. Rafa was on his way to getting near your level and we had a really good reserve side, Under-18s side etc etc. You probs aren't gonna be taking it into account anyway but, in the Northern competition, we regularly won stuff. We were often undone when we competed with your youngsters, but other than that, we were a match for anyone.

I say it past tense cos Roy doesn't give a fk about his "B Team", never mind the reserves.

Suso. That is all. That kid would be devastating in your set up. Same with Pacheco actually.

Anyways, come in here and have a dig at the rubbish in our first team, not our youngsters!

This. I actually worry about the development of these players with the pretty average coaching and systems they've been surrounded by lately!

Also, Suso. The kid even admitted he got frustrated playing with some of the players he does cos their touch and movement is so bad compared to his. Technically, a brilliant young starlet. Whether he will make it here, we'll see... At Barca or Arsenal, he's be ace.

i didnt claim they were all youngsters 'coming through' in our side, just explained that we have 2 completely separate first choice elevens capable of performing at a high level. Liverpool are far from that, let alone having "a lot of good youngsters coming through" as well. Aside from those two starting elevens, we also have wilshere, ramsey, JET, nordtveit, szchesny, lansbury, frimpong, watt, afobe and aneke - all of which i would class as good youngsters coming through...

and as for your fabregas comment, sorry i didnt specify but i meant starting elevens, as explained above

very good comments there nino, and i agree. I am not disputing any of that, i was merely explaining that i didnt agree with someone's comment that liverpool have a lot of good youngsters coming through. There may well be some good young players at the club, but until they start getting minutes and the club stops buying older players in their positions they are not 'coming through' in my opinion.

For example, you guys on here have been talking about pacheco and spearing for a good 2 years now, and i was genuinely looking forward to seeing what you fellas were on about - but i havent seen them once, or even read about them at all anywhere but here......

On the topic of youngsters etc I just read a blog from guillem balague? Spelling? He said that he had the inside gossip that Pacheco is going on loan to a Spanish side in the summer due to a lack of first team opportunities. I hope he's wrong

Looks like RAWK have made themselves rather useful for once! Part one of an interview they've conducted with John Henry. All questions were presented from fans collected on the site:

John Henry Interview Pt 1

A few questions around the new financial fair play, I didn't really know a lot about the new rules but NESV are putting a lot of focus on it and they've said before they wouldn't have bought the club if it was for the rules. Anyway, here's a great article that explains it in layman's terms and how it relates to LFC.

Very import part is the next two transfer windows, if we (or any other club) is going to spend big it has to be in the next two transfer windows as the finances will not be considered when the rules kick in in the 13/14 season.

This also has a big impact on us in a negative light. If clubs want to spend big on the likes of Fernando and Pepe, January and the summer will be their chance for the very reasons above. Do we sell Nando for 50m now knowing that clubs won't be able to offer more than 30m in less than a years time??*

Yeah, fair enough. Agree with that.

Its hard, because Pacheco was boss in the U-19s Euro's earlier this year (player of the tournament, if I remember right?). But he never gets the time on the pitch for us that I feel he deserves- so frustrating given Jova or Babel play ahead of him. I mean, Roy watches him in training every day, so I'm sure he knows more than me, but its still frustrating. Arsenal offers youngsters more of a chance to play, as well.
