Stay up in the europa league would be fair. Title isn't going to happen this season. We need new owners and heavy investment before we utter the words 'Pool and title in the same sentence for the moment.

If we get new owners in October that 'may' give us some cash to play with in January.

Yes, UG, Rafa did spend 140 mill and produced a squad that came a close 2nd to Utd. The trouble was that the damn yanks had bought the club using debt which was always going to come back to bite. It meant that while Rafa spent 140 mill alot of that was funded through selling and eventually got to the point where he couldn't significantly improve the squad and it all cam crashing down.

I'm sure that part of the reason this sale is being drawn out (apart from H&G trying to get their pound of flesh) is because of additional due diligence by the board on prospective buyers to ensure they have sufficient cash to properly fund the club.

But, but, but... He was rubbish last season!!

Far too much common sense in that post

Sounds like H&G made another good profit on a transfer window.

Just came across these recent quotes:

Broughton -

"I've said it before and I'll say it again, we have no need to sell any players to pay off the debt." 16/7/10

"If we were to sell anyone, then the money would be reinvested in the squad." 16/7/10

Hicks -

"We have no intention of selling any of our top players and we have a substantial transfer budget in place." 27/5/10

And to think someone like Gomez who wants out of Munich and said he'd take 'Pool is still sitting in Germany twiddling his thumbs on the bench for another season...

Good article here by Robbo Huyton, sums everything up right now that I've been reading and deducing from various places:

Klingons on the starboard bow

It covers the current leadership debacle, transfer debacle and ownership/investment debacle.

It's good news for sure but unfortunately probably one of the reasons why more money was spent on forwards over the transfer period. He's in form at the moment and it's much cheaper giving a kid a pay increase. How cynical of me is that..?

Yeah, what is up with Dalla Valle moving to Fulham as part of the Konchesky deal. When Dalle Valle was looking like such a good prospect with all his goals at youth level, although if he goes the way of Mellor then this will be OK.

Well, here it is. This is what our summer transfers were all about:

Home grown players

Jamie Carragher
Joe Cole
Stephen Darby
Steven Gerrard
Glen Johnson
Brad Jones
Paul Konchesky
Jay Spearing

Non home grown players:

Daniel Agger
Fabio Aurelio
Ryan Babel
Milan Jovanovic
Dirk Kuyt
Sotirios Kyrgiakos
Lucas Leiva
Raul Meireles
Christian Poulsen
Pepe Reina
Maxi Rodriguez
Martin Skrtel
Fernando Torres

Clubs can supplement their squads with an unlimited amount of players under the age of 21, meaning Roy Hodgson will also be able to call on the services of Peter Gulacsi, Martin Kelly, Daniel Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, Daniel Pacheco, Nathan Eccleston and David Ngog for Barclays Premier League games this season.

Shelvey and Ngoo played well for England U-19s by all accounts. Shelvey scored and set up Ngoo in a 2-0 win. Apparently Shelvey bossed the game.

Dammit. We could have had Gomez for the season! Although I'm not sure why we tried to loan him when we had $20m sitting in the bank, should have just coughed up the cash and bought him straight out...

Striker Mario Gomez claims Bayern Munich blocked a deadline-day loan move to Liverpool.

The Bundesliga champions were not keen to let the Germany international leave the Allianz Arena as boss Louis van Gaal admitted he still had a part to play for the team.

The 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot with the German giants since joining at the start of last season with Ivica Olic, Miroslav Klose and Hamit Altintopvying for a place in the team.

However, Gomez admitted that he would have jumped at the chance of a temporary move to Anfield to reignite his career.

Gomez told the Bild newspaper: "I have said that if I leave Bayern I will go abroad.

"Then came this interesting offer from Liverpool. I took the loan offer seriously and discussed it with my family and girlfriend because I just want to play.

"But Bayern gave me the impression that they see a future for me. And therefore a change was not an issue anymore."

Someone else turning us down.....seems like heaps of bad news of late!

 Van der Vaart snubbed Reds

Dutch playmaker opted for Spurs switch over Anfield move

Instead, he claims that Liverpool were the other side hoping to push through a deal, forcing him to choose between two Premier League heavyweights.

Fun

Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News: "Liverpool were interested. Bayern were not interested.

"In the end you have to have a good feeling, and with this manager I got a good feeling. I am happy and I am going to Spurs.

Almost not suprised at this. Is there no level H&G will stoop too? They played a risky game leveraging the club and they've lost so they now they try to take us down with them.

Liverpool's owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks attempted to refinance their loans this summer by mortgaging the club's remaining assets - the stadium, training ground, players and guaranteed TV revenues.

Poor Pepe has had a mare this morning. Let in 3 against Argentina in the first 30 mins. To be fair, he was bamboozled by some Messi magic with the first one. Subbed at the half.

He was not helped at all by the 'defence' (if you can call them that). Except for the third one, that was pretty bad.. Guess he won't be replacing San Iker any time soon.

Never thought I'd actually be pleased to have Babel in the squad. Sad truth at the moment is we need everyone on board. I just hope he knuckles down and makes the most of his opportunities.

He does have talent but like the letter says he seems a bit pre-occupied with rapping etc. Our squad of 21 is now even smaller with Kuyt injured.

Surely they have no say in what happens with the club now? Do you think that buyers are more likely to buy the club after October when the bank steps in?

I'd rather have King Luis than Babel, tbh. Cracking goal.

Yeah, I dunno. He was rubbish against Trabzonspor, just got a really nice goal. I don't rate Babel much, and I don't like him a whole lot either.. His goal against Derby in his first season was awesome though! Just not so sure about him otherwise. But hey! Prove me wrong, Ryan..

Probably not a whole lot but I imagine what they can do will be some sort of legal action around not being able to refinance or sell to their preferred bidder (Kirdi). All delaying tactics of course. Anything to keep their bankruptcy at bay. Either way, it's not going to be a pretty ending for one or both parties (ie H&G + LFC)
