Striker Mario Gomez claims Bayern Munich blocked a deadline-day loan move to Liverpool.

The Bundesliga champions were not keen to let the Germany international leave the Allianz Arena as boss Louis van Gaal admitted he still had a part to play for the team.

The 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot with the German giants since joining at the start of last season with Ivica Olic, Miroslav Klose and Hamit Altintopvying for a place in the team.

However, Gomez admitted that he would have jumped at the chance of a temporary move to Anfield to reignite his career.

Gomez told the Bild newspaper: "I have said that if I leave Bayern I will go abroad.

Never thought I'd actually be pleased to have Babel in the squad. Sad truth at the moment is we need everyone on board. I just hope he knuckles down and makes the most of his opportunities.

He does have talent but like the letter says he seems a bit pre-occupied with rapping etc. Our squad of 21 is now even smaller with Kuyt injured.

Kuyt out, I wonder in Dani will get to start, most likely a re-shuffle of midfielders.

Probably not a whole lot but I imagine what they can do will be some sort of legal action around not being able to refinance or sell to their preferred bidder (Kirdi). All delaying tactics of course. Anything to keep their bankruptcy at bay. Either way, it's not going to be a pretty ending for one or both parties (ie H&G + LFC)
