So glad I woke myself up to watch it. First live game I've been bothered getting up to watch so far, not regretting a second of it! Is it just me or did Giggs have a hand in most of the Man U goals! The guys a legend. TBH as well I thought Man City didn't look particularly dangerous, only Bellamys goal was decent, the other two were from stupid blunders. Great great game

He's such a twat! lol. He seems to have re-found his legs tho, looks to be nearly as quick as when he was at blackburn.

Chitty had naff all apart from taking advantage of our own cock-ups!

And the funny thing thats now plainly obvious is that when Adebayor and Robinho are fit / not suspended there is no way tevez can get into their starting XI! LOL

I'd love a copy too man, if it's possible to make a few copies. No worries if you need me to flick you some $$ for a DVD and postage (if necessary).

I don't understand the Tevez hating by united fans - the guy was at the club and said on numerous occasions that he wanted to stay there.  United said they didn't want him, so he went to another club.  I really cannot understand why that develops into booing for 90 minutes and coins being thrown at him.

Ince getting photographed in a Man Utd shirt when he was still a west ham player = valid reason for giving stick.  Sol Campbell leaving Spurs on a free and going to Arsenal = valid reason for giving stick.  Chimbonda handing in a transfer request while still in his kit on the last day of the season = valid reason for giving stick.  Going to another club after the one you are at tells you they don't rate you and are not going to keep you doesn't = a valid reason for giving stick.

But I think we did want to keep him - we were prepared to pay off the 3rd party and offer him a good contract - 90k a week for someone who scored 5 EPL goals for us last season isn't too bad. Chelsea also offered good terms, but City offered him the most money so thats where he went.

Now, perhaps thats not enough to be hated on (though I think its enough), he bleated on about not getting enough game time, even though he played at least as many matches as Berbatov did last year (though I can't be arsed checking that) and didn't score nearly as many goals. His final tally was boosted by scoring 4 in a Carling Cup tie. He will also play much less matches at City this season, with the fowards they have and no European competition.

Then he has the nerve to say he was frozen out at Old Trafford, no one talked to him etc etc all AFTER he joined City., even though there were numerous reports saying he was happy, Ferguson had filled him with confidence about staying on, how he wanted to stay at United until he was 30 before returning to Argentina, etc DURING the season. So basically, he is a lier and I honestly think that if he was serious about playing games and winning trophies, he would have stayed or gone to Chelsea. But he is a money-grabbing tw*t who went against the fans who loved him to join their closest rivals.

7 minutes of added time. OT must be somehow linked to a Tardis for or have one of of HN's wormholes to bend time like that.
Permalink Permalink

Well it was meant to be 4 minutes but 2 goals and a substitution adds 2 and a half minutes according to the laws... Seems like good officiating to me!

If goals added time why did the ref blow the whistle straight after the restart from the last goal?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Well this is the question... and it seems this is what the debate has moved on to.

I'm not sure I agree with it, but someone on F365 thinks the reason is this:

"Bellamy scored and celebrates for a minute. Time left is 4 minutes. Out of the 4, a full minute is gone for the celebration and therefore the ref had to extend the time to compensate for it. The 30 seconds for the substitution takes the game till 95:30.

Now Owen scores at 95:28 and goes on to celebrate. The time left on the clock is 2 seconds. Now the City fans have a case if the ref had blown the whistle immediately after the goal but the ref decided to play the 2 seconds and make sure the promised 4 minutes is completed. Actually the ref played 14 extra seconds. United should be protesting for the referee awarding the extra 14 seconds to see if City could equalize. That is all."

Hmmm so maybe actually City benefited in the end? An extra 10 seconds! I guess the goal celebration doesn't count as part of actual play, so as long as 4 minutes of FOOTBALL is played (which it appears it was), then the referee got it spot on.

Yeah the referee did get it spot on,people saying united scored in the 97th minute are wrong and trying to exaggerate things,it was the 96th minute. A minute of which was the massive celebration from city as they scored right on 90mins. The other 30 seconds being the sub.

Simple  I even understood that at the time of watching the game

yeah i've got to say i think the ref got it right too.

4 minutes minimum + 1 minute bellamy celebration + 30 secs united sub =  5 minutes 30

Me only copy I can get right now is a half decent Sentanta. My recording of the actual game live was straight to a dvd, and as such its loses half the game with stepping.

Damn it. :l

I'll keep on the look out for a nice BBC one or something though.

Revealed: Manchester United get more injury time when they need it

Guardian study shows added time to turn round home games
Owen won derby after an extra five minutes and 26 seconds

Sir Alex Ferguson likes to boast that his Manchester United team score more late goals than any other side in the world. Others argue that they get a bit of extra help from referees. It has now emerged that the Premier League champions do, as suspected, benefit from an imbalance in the amount of stoppage time that is added to their matches.

After the controversy over Michael conveniently winning goal in Sunday's Manchester derby, the Guardian has looked at all of United's league matches at Old Trafford since the start of the 2006-07 season and discovered that, on average, there has been over a minute extra added by referees when United do not have the lead after 90 minutes, compared to when they are in front. In 48 games when United were ahead, the average amount of stoppage time was 191.35 seconds. In 12 matches when United were drawing or losing there was an average of 257.17sec.

The average stoppage time added at Old Trafford in the period in question is below that given at Anfield, the Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge. United's is 205 seconds, compared to Liverpool's 210sec, Arsenal's 224sec and Chelsea's 229sec. But there is also evidence to support the suspicions of many managers, players and supporters that United get preferential treatment at home. When Owen made it 4-3 on Sunday the game was five minutes and 26 seconds into stoppage time. In total, the referee, Martin Atkinson, allowed almost seven minutes, even though the fourth official had signalled a minimum of four. Mark Hughes, the City manager, spoke of feeling "robbed". His sense of grievance will not be helped if he analyses the last three seasons.

In 2006-07, for example, United were winning 15 times on entering stoppage time and referees added an average 194.53sec. In the four games when United were not winning there was an average of 217.25sec. The following year the disparity was greater, Opta's figures showing an average 178.29sec added when United were winning and 254.5sec when they were not. Last season it was 187.71sec compared to 258.6sec.

The pattern has continued in the first three games of the season. In the two games United have led they have played an average 304sec of injury time. On Sunday, Atkinson allowed the game to go on for 415sec.

Love the Arse fans who come around, trying to make something of nothing, like usual. Where's that Adeboyor gif gone... hmmm..

As for extra time, media are trying to inflate nothing. Its been proven why we got extra time. Get over it. You could also debate as to when it crossed half way / was neutral.Michael2009-09-22 18:33:24

The Sun says that City are so angry with the behaviour of fourth official Alan Wiley - 'City are furious with Wiley for shooing away boss Mark Hughes when he questioned where all the added time had come from only to cosy up and share a joke with Ferguson' - that they will launch a formal complaint against him.

Neville could also be in hot water after he ran down the touchline towards the City supporters immediately after Owen had scored. It is not the first time that Neville has been accused of goading the opposition's supporters having been 5,000 and warned about his future conduct for taunting Liverpool fans in 2006. According to The Guardian, 'Several City supporters have contacted the FA to complain that he mouthed obscenities in their direction.'

Rather hilariously, Neville, an unused substitute for the match, cut short his celebrations to go through a series of warm-up exercises despite United already making all three of their allotted substitutions.

I had forgotten about this, but the first part of your response is wrong - there was never an offer from United, and as much as Tevez wanted to stay, he never got the chance.  He has been a United fan for years (apparently), even wearing one of their shirts to a press conference when he was playing in Brazil.  He did not want to leave, but United didn't want him so he had to.  He only went to City so he could stay in his house, and close to friends Park and Evra.  By the way, is that the weirdest trio of best friends you have ever seen?????

Tevez might have said some things about Fergie after he left, but none of what I saw was ever too bad - certainly not to the point of throwing coins at him.  Especially after being there when he was so good the West Ham fans on Monday night, he really is one of footballs nice guys, who doesn't deserve the sh*t he gets from the know-nothing fans united have.

On to the extra time topic (as old as it is now), I think that what can legitimately annoy City fans is the inconsistency of it.  Does the ref know how long the celebrations were for any of the previous 5 goals that were scored before Bellamy's?  Why does the exact time for a goal scored in injury time get added on, but any goal before that?

Sorry Frankie but I'm not wrong - fair point about staying in Manchester but we did want him to stay:

About those three lads being friends.

"United were willing to pay the 25.5m to turn the striker's two-year loan move into a permanent five-year deal but Tevez, 25, has decided to move on.

"Disappointingly, his advisors informed the club that he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United," read a United statement. "

"I don't think United could have done any more," he said.

"Tevez was offered a five-year contract and five years is a long time to commit to any player, but I think that was in recognition of what he did last season, both when he started games and when he came on as a sub."

Not all United fans are know-nothings.
