1-1 was a good result but RM will not be happy. They are a far better side than Utd but one has to give credit to the way we defended, especially  de Gea. He pulled off some outstanding saves. Even Rio was OK.

RVP should have scored in  the last min of the game.

Would have to fancy our chances in the return leg.

Ive been critical of jones since he came back from injury but thought he was tireless this morning. De Gea will do me, hopefully high ball technique improves with experience. Wellbeck  good and the defence hung in. Both teams could win it. Should be a cracking return leg.

Should be a great 2nd leg. If Real get through, what price on a mourinho touchline sprint?

Lets hope AF does not pick his 2nd X1 like he has in the past. In 2008/9 we should have hammered Everton in the semis  but lost on penalties. The problem with doing this is that the players selected could think that AF would not  have picked them unless he thought they would bolt in. Perhaps a bit of complacency.

Just did enough for the win. Should have scored 4/5.

The one good thing was that Nani was back to his old self.

Rafael's goal was really the game changer. One of the best of the season. QPR are not a bad side and I really hope they stay up.

Pretty ordinary performance in the first half but the last 20 mins were unbelievable. Kagawa  was really impressive. Apart from his goals he has proved to me that Asian players are more supple and their first touch is better than most.

Another couple of wins and the title will be ours. Here is hoping.

Yeah agreed re Canaries had plenty territory and possession but De Gea was never tested.

I like Kagawa. He looks to be intelligent in his passing and movement; however he naturally plays very centrally (sort of a no. 10 in behind the striker role) and I thought our attack was overly predictable - down the right hand side because we effectively had no left sided midfield/winger, unless Evra got forward on the left hand side. Things changed when Danny came on.

I'm not claiming the league until it's mathematically impossible not to of course. In the meantime I'm hoping fixture congestion is our biggest issue!

Champions league HT report: 0-0 and we've had 2 or 3 chances and De Gea not truly tested yet. Surprise starting line up sees Rooney , Kagawa, Valencia on the bench. Giggs has been pretty magnificent, Welbeck and Nani providing lots of attack. Stays like this we're through. If Real score, we need 2. Squeaky bum time!!!!!!

That Turk ref decision ruined the whole tie. Game over from then. It was never a red.

A little unlucky for the red card - turned the game. Lopez played really well and made sure of Mardrid's progression.

Interesting quote from Mourinho: Mourinho stops quickly to say to ITV: "Independent of the decision, the best team lost. We didn't deserve to win."

Now to focus on a domestic double.

Yet when the Arse get dumped, some Man U fans are quick to give them stick. Kitchen, & heat spring to mind.

Total respect for Ronaldo and how he conducted himself after scoring the goal. Other than Barca, I don't think United could have drawn a tougher opposition. Two tough games. Pretty sad that you're only 12 points in the lead with 10 games to go. Yet another Premiership in the cabinet. You guys must get bored winning the title..

No stick from me. We're more than likely going to get dumped out by Bayern and at least you are pretty much gauranteed CL football next season. Not like Arsenal. You lost to a very good team by one goal on aggregate and but for the red card, probably would have won.

Quoting rules means zip.
Perhaps this is more to the point.

Nani put himself in that situation because he had poor spatial awareness. If he knew the player was there, he should have realised he wouldn't get the ball, and pulled out.

The ref makes the final call on what he has seen. If they were to  ''ref by the rules' it would be stop/start every few mins..

I assume he would have had some idea that Arbeloa was in the vicinity, just that since the ball was coming from over his shoulder and trying to the control the ball he would have lost visual contact with Arbeloa for enough time to not have seen Arbeloa close the space where Nani was trying to control the ball. From the ref's perspective he can come to the conclusion that it was serious foul play, I do think it is unlucky as I think a majority of ref's wont see it as serious foul play and probably only result in a yellow. I did miss the ball striking Rafael on the arm - might have been a stronger case for that being a red in hindsight and also a penalty?

He also told your supporters to stop being bitter.

I think you should listen to your once violent and often thuggish former captain.

The ball was headed into Rafael's arm from 2 yards away, there was no way he could have intentionally got his arm in the way in time, therefore it was correctly deemed to not be a handball.

Perhaps you should listen to some of YOUR former players on AW. Perhaps Stewart Robson.
You are only on here cause Utd lost. You and your sort hide for weeks on the Arse thread when lose. Lets see where you are after your next  Champ League game.

Yup but he bases that on the LOTG. By quoting the laws, most people should be able to see how the ref saw it. Whether everyone agrees worth it is a different story.

I am. But being an ex player, or a coach for that matter, doesn't mean you know the rules.

There is no way Rafael could have deliberately handled the ball, nobody has a reaction time that impressive.
