I just don't see how any manager on earth fixes this.
The players are bottle jobs. None of them can handle the pressure. The culture in the dressing room must be totally shot - even Varane and Casemiro have succumb and now look like deers in headlights.
Today it wasn't Dalot's nonsense attempt at defending, or the total failure to mark Palmer, it was that the second we went up 3-2 we could string two passes together.
Not defending ETH, but the core of this squad needs to be torn out and replaced, simply for not being able to hack it. It's almost at the point where you'd genuinely do better replacing the entire squad with a championship team (that display an ounce of grit) and sprinkling a couple of marquee signings on top.
Think that used to be called "Fergie time." Feels a little unbelievable to be leading in the 99th minute twice in 4 days and end up with 1 point from the 2 games.
I can 100% see how a new manager fixes this. the lack of a functional system and cohesion for 100 minutes does not allow players to perform to their appropriate levels and then individual qualities come through. I wont excuse Dalot's challenge or no one pressing at the corner but when you are a mess for the rest of the game, you cant expect players to stand up in moments
Was surprised he didn’t pull Anthony and switch Garnacho over to the right with Rashford on the left and possibly McT or Bruno through the middle. A 4th goal would’ve buried them. It wasn’t like watisname for Newcastle against West Ham. The goals they got were tinny, not pure class.
@prof 4th goal not a pen. United committed everyone forward to find a winner and on the return counter a shot from outside the box deflected past the keeper.

It would have been crazy to plot Bruno’s self belief on a chart during that game. Down and up and up and down…And Anthony-the pen, so upset about a ball he’d fought for and thought he’d won being a goal kick not a corner…then some great play and…
Have to be honest I wanted them to win that and I was kinda gutted they didn’t.

accoding to what I can find from the interweb Palmer scored three, two pens at 90+10 and 90+11

Ignoring the on field shambles for the time being I just finished reading this book The Worlds Biggest Cash Machine Manchester United , the Glazers ,and the Struggle for Footballs Soul Chris Blackhurst Got it from the auckland Library Its a history of the ownership of Manchester United from formation to 2023. I always knew that the Glazers were bad owners but this really opened my eyes to how dodgy they are , and the fact that they are not even that rich Just use heaps of borrowed money and suck cash out of the operation. It was illuminating to read of some of the financial instruments they use. It was also very relevant to read how they ran down thir US assets - caravan parks and shopping malls.Sound familiar with the problems with Old Trafford. The book finishes before the completion of Jim Ratcliffes partial purchase but the overwhelming thing you were left with was that while the Glazers have any part of the ownershipthings will not improve and that will translate on the pitch. Left me feeling very pessimistic about United's future. On field shambles - winning the FA cup may save Ten Haag .Would not b e surprised if Coventry won the semi.No idae who would replace him anyway.Massive rebuild job required on and off the field
Watching that pen given for handball should cause absolute bloody riots in Nottingham after the performance of the ref and VAR against Everton. Shocker United let 3 in after they went up, but that handball seems identical to the Ashley Young one Forest were denied.
Amazing. United could still theoretically win the whole thing after that.
Didn’t think Hojlund had that. Decisive final pen. Onana has done well too. Him and Bruno with some A grade chat there. Reminded me of Fleming on Graeme Smith.
The penalty shootout was very clinical in the end. Everything the game wasn’t! Casemiro marking Haaland could be interesting.

Started watching the 99 documentary on Amazon. The Treble has been done to death so I was skeptical but the first episode was excellent. Even learned that Sir Alex actually offered his resignation at the start of the 98/99 season.
The documentary shows a stark contrast to the soulless, robotic victory for the UAE nation state overnight. Congrats to Arsenal for coming morally first.
Excited by early reports that the whole team bar Mainoo, Højlund, and Garnacho are up for sale.

I've been not that keen to see it....like you say, 99 has been flogged and flogged and flogged. Then flogged some more. I think the 99 reverence has been holding the club back.

But will probably check it out.....
For the first episode at least, they've branched out from the whole "class of '92" narrative - love them but we've got a whole documentary for that. Instead of focuses on SAF and Martin Edwards, Schmeichel getting the yips, Yorke and Cole partnership, Sheringham struggling, etc
Great to see a win over City, and what calamitous defending setting up United's first goal.
For the second goal I initially thought Fernandes mis-hit a shot, but on the replays it just looked like a perfect pass. And Mainoo impresses me more and more every time.
You'd think it won't be enough for Ten Haag to keep his job, but I always found him likeable enough, so it's good for him to get a trophy before being shown the door.
I think ETH should get another season. Hamstrung by the most injuries in the league to the point where we haven't had an actual left back on the pitch in months, let alone all the others. Some of the football has been beyond dire but the final clearly showed what we can do when we have the cattle, plus there's not a single name we're linked to that I'd prefer to have (Tuchel, Poch, Frank, McKenna seems set to stay with the Tractor Boys).
Don't really think Sir Alex is the problem Its the Glazers .Until they go then I can see on going problems. The stadium is falling down as was the case with their shopping malls and caravan parks in the States. Ratcliffe is certainly rattling a few cages but with approx 30 % shareholding he can't solve the fundamental problem of returning United to being a football club rather than an investment vehicle. Its going to be an interesting summer at United. Never saw the Cup Final win coming but it was a 2 horse race so United always had a starters chance. ETH actually bested Gaurdiola tactically and that doesn't happen often.First the first time in months he had his first choice CB pairing and that made a big difference. They are going to be a bit hamstrung by FFP in signing and hopefully they can sort out the Europa League eligibility problem (Ratcliffe also owns Nice who have qualified) as the Euro money will be critical. Think ETH may well stay. Not many candidates around - please no Pochettino or Tuchel and McKenna is not ready. Hopefully Rashford will stay .Just needs to ignore the trolls on social media and focus on his football. It was difficult to tell from his post match reaction whether he was staying or going. Hopefully they will get some money for Casemiro - think he has 3 years left on a huge contract.Felt sorry for him as he got unfairly lambasted for filling in at CB in the injury crisis.Didn't realise that he was down as a sub in the cup final but got injured in the warm up and replaced. Lots of young talent coming through so providing they can sign a few then they may be a better season ahead . City will still be strong but Gaurdiola may only have one more season and then things may change. Still waiting to hear about Citys 115 charges under FFP . UEFA already found them guilty but were hamstrung by statute of limitations. They certainly can afford the best lawyers money can buy. They are worried as the PM of Abu Dhabi has been putting pressure on the British Government to have the charges dropped. If found guilty doubt whether any punishment will be retrospective .Probably just have to dip into the petty cash for a few hunderd million (billion).Everton and Nottingham Forest will be watching closely GLAZERS OUT
Given how bad Uniteds preparation for that game was can only be very happy with that result. If they can keep everyone fit (probably unlikely !) then top 4 is a realistic aim this season but can see 7 or 8 contenders for those 4 spots. Still some work to do in the transfer market in the next two weeks but FFP (or whatever its called now) makes doing business a bit complicated given the legacy of past mistakes..Also the ridiculous sums that the Saudis are prepared to pay (Toney 80 million !!!) make the market difficult.
Meh. Three shocking giveaways that were punished well by Liverpool. Casemiro is past it but we've also just signed Ugarte to fill that hole.
Call me optimistic but I think this squad is ready to turn a corner and stabilise a bit.
Once can only hope, as much as I dis-like united, they need to be strong for the benefit of the league, we are all getting tired of the super rich corrupt team winning all the time.
