How is Fellaini a professional footballer?

Absolutely lost control of the game when he came on.

Then the idiot watches a man run right past him to header in their goal. Their only shot on target for the whole 90 minutes.

Just fudge off.

Agree, but there were others that were just as poor. Lingard is just a joke.  Should have won by 3/4. I guess anything can happen, but would be disappointed if we did not beat them by a big margin in the replay

At least Lingard's talent is worth an argument.

It's so blatantly obvious how shark Fellaini is.

Seriously the guy takes 4 touches to turn 90 degrees. It's astonishing how bad he actually is.

Battering Ram Fellaini did the business this morn. He's unstoppable in that role really.

Three very experienced managers in a row now have tried him all different ways, but eventually ended up playing him that way.

Is he the best plan B in world football?

Honestly, I disagree...

It kind of worked this morning. I would argue that Herrera would've been a better sub and that the most influential thing was probably Zlatan being forcibly removed.

Besides that, United used to pull off regular comebacks by staying relaxed and continuing to push forward and play football. There have been countless games we've squandered the oppourtunity because we've chosen to hoof at Fellaini instead.

To me it is just the typical Fellaini. Yes he pays off occasionally, but the downsides are too great.

It's frustrating that we need to rely on him, the plan B, so often.

Fuck this stupid game

That was Ferguson's influence though, 100%. Didn't matter the personnel, it was the same in 1993 as it was in 2013. He could get that out of his teams.

Other Managers might be better at other things but none of them have a patch on Ferguson when it comes to quality of performance in the last 20 minutes of games.

Unless you're able to do that, then Fellaini off the bench is pretty effective, even if it's ugly. This morning it didn't "kind of" work, it definitely worked. As soon as he came on you guys were creating so much havoc in the box, and the winning goal itself was directly from a Fellaini knock-down.

As much as I don't rate Fellaini,   Pogba's performance made him look good. If he is worth 89 million then the Nix must have a lot of players worth a mint.

Not only was Pogba ( outside ZA) the poorest player in the Utd side, he was just about the worst player on the pitch.

Horrible performance but a win.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Another good solid performance without Zlatan...

United players wore Ibrahimovic and Rojo shirts warming up... for which I am deeply embarrassed. I moaned on twitter how United has changed but apparently "football has changed"

Martial and Rashford up front vs City please.

There is a sense of professionalism at the moment. Play the game, get the win. Simple.

Martial played well up front, the most energy I have seen him have in a while. Fellaini played very well too, as almost a man marker on Barnes. Rooney looked really up for it but his acceleration is down a bit.

For City, I think it will be a similar Rashford and Lingard up front to press and hit their slower, older defenders on the break. Valencia and Shaw back, maybe as wing backs with Darmian, Blind and Bailly behind.

Regardless, its going to be an important match and it will be interesting to see if Mourinho sets the mindset as to not lose, or to go for the win

Interesting comments again about Jones and Smalling by Mourinho. Called them out when commenting on the amazing performance of Bailly and the fact he has played 9 straight games. Basically said that they should want to play on Thursday, alluding that the only thing holding them back was their mental state.

Not sure if pressuring injury prone players to come back early is the best idea, but if it is only a mental thing preventing them from playing, then I don't think they should be United players.

For all the stick that Lingard, Shaw, Fellaini, Mkhitaryan, Martial etc have got, you cannot fault their mentality to win and to fight for every moment. If these two are not playing because they dont think they are ready, even though their bodies are, get rid of them

I would not have picked the likes of Jones to want to do anything other than play... I dunno, we're probably short of the full story!

Agree 100% with our last comments. It's refreshing to have these players work their arse off. It great to see a whole pitch of players who seem to give a damn.

Huge game tomorrow, everyone is hyping it up to be exciting and thrilling. Buuuut I think it will be boring and be a nill all draw as neither team will want to lose this one.

Got the result right, but it was far more open than I had thought it would. United were very poor in possession as Rashford couldn't get it to stick up front to release the pressure. At the same time, we didn't get it to him enough.

Less worried about Fellaini's headbutt as I am with the multiple match ban that will follow it.

stuuuupid red. But I thought both players moved their heads together, its just aguero is smaller so it was easier for him to go down. and wow didnt he make the most of it. I thought Fellaini might be up for murder the way aguero was carrying on.

The mistake Fellaini made was moving his head down to Aguero's level as most of the forward movement was done by Aguero. If Fellaini hadn't done that, then I imagine Aguero would have made contact with Fellaini's chin, and it would have been a different story. Worst case it would have been one of those silly moments where both plays press their heads against one another

Yep pretty much that. In saying that you engage heads with anyone like that you are asking for it but you know someone like Aguero will make the most of it too. Just stupid. We missed Pogba. Couldn't build any attacks or keep the ball for long enough to open them up.

Fuck this stupid game

Yea he made the most of it, but when I watch that replay it looks to me that Fellaini actually did catch him pretty flush? Wasn't just a pressing of heads together, there was actually a proper headbutt there.

I agreed with you during the game, but watching the side on (http://www.sportbible.com/football/foul-play-react... it looks like Aguero is worse to be honest.

But what a fudgeing idiot Fellaini is. The tackle 2 seconds after he got yellow carded was just as stupid.

Whole game we looked odd, really indecisive on the ball and then took the easy option which reuslted in either losing the ball or going back to De Gea to hoof away.

Need to be sharper and more clinical all across the park. Very few opportunities open up against the big boys. Not just finishing but all across the pitch we don't punish opponents for their mistakes. We just looked relieved to still have the ball.

I suppose the word is mediocre. That is why Fellaini pisses me off so much. Yes he can run around and "do a job" - but we need more than just a job done. We need midfielders who can defend and who can play a through ball else we just waste those already tiny amount of openings.

Yes injured.

Fosu-Mensah also injured himself at the end of the match. Is a shoulder dislocation so surely not that long??? Hopefully him and Pogba are available for the weekend. Could see a midfield of Pogba, Herrera and Carrick/TFM.

Dreadful performance at home, and it now looks like we've lost Bailly and Shaw who went off with injuries.

Played poorly in the first half, defence at 6's & 7's for the first 20-25 minutes. Add to that the play going forward was just not incisive, no cut and thrust, creativity, spark or genius - which frankly we've been lacking in a lot of this season. Made exponentially worse by the fact that we've lost our main scoring outlet in Ibrahimovic.

Really placing all our eggs in one basket by going all in for the Europa League. It seems now it's what we're going to have to do if we're to make it back to the Champions League next year.

Going to have to promote a few youngsters if we keep this rate of injuries up too - as it was Scott McTominay was promoted to the first team bench today.

Deserved to be sent, but your definition of "proper headbutt" and mine are a long way apart!

Silly game. Rooney played like Fellaini; did nothing in midfield then gave away the stupidest foul in history.

I don't understand why we've all written off our chances of top four. With four games to go Us, City, and Liverpool will all drop more points. Perhaps the tiniest bit of belief will get us through.

My definition for the record: A head butting another head (hence "head-butt").

I personally just think we looked very tired and lethargic on the pitch. In the first 45minutes we could not keep up with Swanseas tempo, which is a concern as if we are in the Champions League next season we will play high tempo teams who will hurt us more than Swansea could.

Rooneys career at United is surely heading to an end. I know he's not that old, but I just can't find a role he can fill. You would hope there is going to be a big clear out off-season.

United's run in: Arsenal (A), Spurs (A), Southampton (A) and Palace (H)

City's run in: Palace (H), Leicester (H), West Brom (H) and Watford (A)

Liverpool's run in: Watford (A), Southampton (H), West Ham (A) and Middlesbrough (H)

You could say that United has 3 tough games out of four - maybe 2 if Palace are safe by the last game. City have 3 tricky games but they are all at home so they should be winning them. Liverpool have games against 3 mid table teams, and you'd think Middlesbrough would know their future by the last game.

That is why most have written off the top four. That's not even including the fact that before the season finishes in 3 weeks, United have 2 games a week, one fit CB and two fit CMs for league games. And are woefully out of form. Yes, Liverpool are likely to drop points against the teams they are playing, but are they going to drop more than us? I am not sure.

Rooney played nothing like Fellaini. Have had a look at that foul 5 times and he was unlucky, he certainly did not mean it. He needs game time (is not going to get it) but over the whole game he never gave the ball away, unlike most of the others. Their passing and options were poor..

We have played a lot worse and won.The players that were crap last season are much improved under Jose and we are still in with an outside chance of the top four.

Al least we know that the club  will do what ever it takes to get to the top as quickly as possible.

I haven't written off our chances, because the quality is there.

For the most part we've been there or there abouts during the season in trying to get into that top four, and it seems everytime we've had a golden chance to put some pressure on those above us by picking up the three points we just bottle it.

Mata & Pogba look like they'll be back in the squad this week against Celta Vigo so I'm happy we'll have that quality back in the midfield. Defenders, well, who have we got left?
