Milan offered £100M for Kaka

Man City have reportedly offered AC Milan 100M for Kaka. Although the beeb reported today that it could be as much as 175M. And they are reported to be offering to pay him 250K per week.

That's just an obscene amount of money.

Big question then, does he take the money or play for a good team?

While I'm at it here's a question: Who was the first 1M player in England? (answer tomorrow)

I was writing a big long post when I decided only one word was needed, f**k. And imagine earning 1 million pounds a month just for playing a game you enjoy.

Look what oil can buy though.

Reading the tvnz website, with the wages etc kaka will earn 75 million in the five year deal

The other thing is Steve Hughes must be loving his new owners. What kind of manager gets to walk round with 100m pounds?Michael2009-01-15 00:13:25

its an obscene amount per week, the sun quoted 280k a week in wages.

money talks and if a club has him and robinho + a decent squad (i know some will debate this but ireland and hart are top players or will be shortly and when on form elano, richards, SWP, kompany and dunne are decent enough) thats a long way towards success...they wont win the PL any time soon but its about building it up.

footballers have 15 years tops...guy like him maybe 10...take the money and run

1st 1mil player in england was Trevor Francis if im not mistaken..?

Steve Hughes? must have played under Noel Clough...Didn't he play at White Hart Lane when Mark Bruce was that captain? not that they were much good...but nobody's been good there since Jamie Lineker right?

edit: sorry its been a week of it. I think it was Nigel Clough actually came up in another thread.

Latest news is Kaka has turned down the offer saying that he wants "grow old at Milan".

Maybe club loyalty is not dead after all. That impresses me.
(although this cynical little voice in my head says that he just doesn't want to play for a team at the wrong end of the table).

Is right. Class player and all, but the money is absurd. No player should be worth that much, that sort of money shouldnt go into football. You've gotta think we're going to have a collapse like Serie A did

A player of Kaka's ilk would not go to a club like Man City, there are still a number of world class players around the world that want to be paid for thier skills but still put a higher price on a classier club in Italy/Spain than a quick fire rich club from.

One thing that suprises me is that people seem to forget it only takes a moment for all that money to go down the drain, look at clubs like West ham who over the next 6-8 months will be shedding players left right and centre as the Icelandic guy has fallen over.

Money has come very quick to the English clubs and my pick is it will leave just as quick for some with the whole world credit issue, Formula 1 has been hit hard and I think we may see some clubs affected not to the extent of Formula 1 but affected where it could sift out some of the silly money.

Yup, I always thought it was Trevor Francis too.

Depends how pedantic you are... strictly speaking the Francis transfer was just under 1m but it's called 1m.

Latest on News tonight is that Kaka's agent has said, "If Milan want to sell him Kaka will go"

So that's a shot in the arm for Club-player loyalty then. A deal's a deal. Still, good to knownot every one is affected by the credit crunch.

Regarding Francis,i thought it was jimmy Greaves who was sold for 99 000 squid to avoid being the first 100 000 player, or am I all mixed up?HarryHotspur2009-01-15 21:50:14

Cloughie wouldn't pay the full million in case it 'went to his head'.  It was 999,999 (although Taxes and stuff made it more).

A quiz with a football question, eh? At what point did the punters realise all the questions would be footy based?

Wasnt Steve Daley Wolves to Man City the first million pound transfer? Francis was the first million pound teenager transferred Birmingham to Forest. then there third one was Andy Gray Aston Villa to Wolves.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Not sure about Greaves, but Tommy Taylor was signed for Man U for 29,999 to avoid the pressures of a 30,000 footballer in 1953

Kaka deal could be back on with City upping their offer to ï¿½500K per week!

And News is spot on with his facts:
"Nottingham Forest, the reigning League champions and League Cup holders managed by Brian Clough, put in a bid for Francis which totalled just over 1 million. No player had ever been sold between English clubs for a seven-figure fee before (the erstwhile record was less than half), and the deal was sealed, with Francis famously being introduced to the media by a manager impatient to play squash - Clough was in his white gym kit and carrying a racquet as he addressed the press conference. While recognised as the first million pound player, the actual transfer fee for the player was 999,999 - 1 short of the million mark as Brian Clough wanted to ensure this milestone mark did not go the player's head, although with taxes the total fee exceeded 1.1m."

Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. You can blame your own club for this and what it has done to English football recently. Or perhaps when Man City have the money and players to win something you'll jump on the bandwagon with the rest and choose to support them too.

P.S. Don't take it personally lol - I just hate your club and what they stand for.

what i think is really ridiculous is that the UAE isnt immune to the finacial cirsis. They are starting to cut back some of the more extravagent spending, so i wouldnt be suprised to hear that the Arabs are going to cut back on their spending at Man City and the club will be left dangling in the wind. i give it 12-18 months max before the bubble bursts.

latest news i've read says that Kaka 'isssued a snub' to Man City, claiming he prefers arsenal and manchester united. good man.
apparently he was spotted crying yesterday..i feel sorry for the man to be honest, being effectively forced to leave milan for a petrol station.

i totally agree with his request to have a clause in which he can be bought for half of the transfer fee  man city pay for him at the end of next season if man city don't reach their objectives.
