Died today aged 85.
One of the old fashioned strikers.
Only played for Bolton and scored 100's of goals. Also an Englang player.

RIP.

"Lion of Vienna", no less. Wikipedia time for the younger 'uns, I suspect. (He was actually well before my time as well).

Worth checking out his goal in the post-Munich 1958 Cup final, where he bundled the Man U keeper into the net (google it - I think British Pathe have it). Sneaking suspicion that he might not be able to get away with that these days.

Maybe we should all do a minute's shoulder-charging in memory of him.

A true legend from the days where great players often played pretty much their whole career with their first, and often 'unfashionable', club. (= days of maximum age, but that's a whole different discussion)

RIP

I know, I know, its serious!

A classic Buff.
I was only a kid but I rememder listening on the radio to the FA Cup final against Man U.(no TV then) Lofthouse had a steel plate in his shoulder and he crashed into the Utd keeper in the back, knocked him/ball and all over the line .- Goal.
I have seen that clip a few times and there is no way that that would be allowed today.
A great pic.
