Alright folks,
Just signed up to the forum as I've just arrived in Wellington on a 2 year visa. Gonna try to get to some local games but looks like the season is drawing to a close? Got tickets for the Aussie Rules game on ANZAC day, so that should be good.
I'm from England and a Forest fan. Any others on here? Not a good time at the city ground anyway, though Stuart Pearce is apparently reconsidering coming back as manager so things could be looking up!
Any tips about making the most of my time here would be appreciated. We're living in the city centre. Love sport, music, theatre and good food.
Cheers.
Brian Clough's sister lived in Nelson when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's - she may well still do. Brian would visit in the English off-season when managing Forest and was seen occasionally at Nelson United matches in the NZ National League (which in those days ran in the winter from April to September).
Funnily enough I'm a Charlton supporter (my mum's from there) and Alan Curbishley's sister lives in Auckland, so he comes out here for holidays too.
I remember Alan Davidson, a very good Aussie fullback at Forest under Clough in the 1980's and 90's (who is half Japanese and hence the first Japanese player in England's top flight). Later played for Glasgow Rangers.
I live in the city that "shakes, rattles and rolls" (Christchurch) or Quake Central but have spent time in Wellington. Some good theatre when I was there at Bats Theatre, Circa Theatre, Hannah Playhouse (formerly Downstage), Wellington Repertory, Hutt Repertory etc.
I acted in small parts at Wellington Rep. Good downtown location.
I like the Wellington rock groups Phoenix Foundation and Fly My Pretties. You'll find them on You Tube and playing locally.
Flip Grater (real name) sounds like a kitchen implement but is one of NZ's best indie singer-songwriters based in Paris for a few years now. Originally from Christchurch and a friend of friends of mine. She's worth checking out - find on You Tube.
Flip Grater plays Wellington this Thursday:
