Lets just hope McClaren sticks with this team.
Very good result though, particularly against a top-rated coach like Guus.

McClaren is starting to win me over. He's made some brave calls (recalling Beckham/Heskey) that have paid off and this side really does have nice balance to it. Hopefully he'll stik with the same team, and not recall Lumpard, Hargreaves or Rooney or especially, Gary Neville. Sure, put them on the bench (except Neville) but the starting eleven should stay as it is.
And while he's at it, get rid of Wes Brown from the bench. One of the worst players ever to play (or not play, come to that) for England, probably up there with Jenas and some of Graham Taylor's call-ups (Brian Deane, Andy "45 minutes" Gray, David White, etc).
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

He has only made brave calls because he has had to.  You know as soon as Lumpolard is back, we will be in the same situation we were in before - trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

This for me will make or break McClaren, will he keep this team or will he capitulate when Fat Frank kicks up a fuss about wanting back in the team. England managers have to be tough and run the show look at Ramsey dropping Jimmy Greaves from the team in 66, that was a big decision. I'm not sure McClaren has that toughness I reckon he bought Becks back for the same reason he got rid of him in the first place- media pressure, rather than being Mr Billy Big Bollocks. Mind you with the England job your always screwed really and short of winning the world cup you'll never be considered a success, (apart from Bobby Robson).

True not a bad result, at this rate you will soon be good enough to beat for example the French home  and away but have patience  it does take time to become a real footballing power !!

There'll no doubt be a few Scots with headaches tomorrow, you'd have to celebrate such a HUGE SHOCK

I reckon there'll even be some Scots putting an extra grain of sugar in their porridge tomorrow

Enjoy it Jambo - I would!!

heskey was the best partner for owen  up front he created so much space drawing defenders in on him, the 2nd owen goal was top work from heskey drew three defenders and still got the ball onto owen

You have to admit though that Russian marking was criminal. The guy who was supposed to mark Owen took off towards Heskey as he was winning the header. What did he think that was going to achieve? And Owen gets the ball umarked, class finish and game over. And the Russian defensive work on the first goal was the Manawatu College 3rd XI type-stuff. I was really surprised that they were so horrendous at the back.

I have eaten my hat in regards to hesky. He never has been a goal machine BUT we need a big player up front to bully the defenders off the ball esp in the air. the amount of good ball he supplied in the box was brilliant. Im pretty sure rooney would of prefered to have a nothing shot on goal rather than off load to owen.

I hope he keeps them two up front. Dean Ashton will on heskys heels tho. when fit of corse
