Has been a wonderful player. Now AF will be forced to go for another great midfielder.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

He can stop coveting Bale and Modric right now.

Jenas would be great in red.

Modric would look pretty dam good in red(not the Arse red).
AF might be prepared to pay 30 million for him.

Do Utd have that kind of money to spend though? Serious question.

Three for me, and two for them.

I really don't know, but that figure was bandied around in the Brit press. I like him, but far too much money.

Modric can't tackle either. Like for like.

How old is Leggy?  Is he 12 or 72?

Yes. Far too much. Move along.

How about we give you 30 mill and you take Gomes and Jenas?

Ankles throughout the Premier League breath a collective sigh of relief.

certainly a decent player, shame he didn't play a few more seasons for England

As for the sycophant (or just piss taker?) Beeb journalist calling him intelligent. Christ, even Scholes himself thought it was funny.

This, I always thought he retired way too early from international football.

Meh. Another destroyer (which England have got loads of). More creators needed.

Scholes > Gerrard or Lampard.

Just saying.

Agree on Gerrard, not sure about Lampard

Yeah. I would put Lampard on par with Scholes.

Three for me, and two for them.

Just a legend. Will miss watching him play.

Now I have to find a new currently-playing favourite player.

I need a tissue

An obvious candidate. Will go on to be twice the player Scholes was.

Three for me, and two for them.

Have you seen him, I doubt he would look good in any colour!! (Apart from the white of spurs, which seems to offset his looks nicely!!)

Seriously though, Modric doesn't score enough to be a direct replacement for Scholes - nothing to see, look elsewhere please...

Oh, and the Ginger Prince was an absolute legend, shame to see him retire

Probably did, but Man Utd were happy with that decision.

And agree, Scholes > Gerrad or Lampard

Glad to see the back of this sort of player. Not because in the modern game there is no place for moranges either...

Absolute class act and it's actually a little bit sad that he won't be around any more. Amazing vision and brilliant technique to be able to hit a pass or shot that well.
All you need is to read quotes from players that he has played with or against to know how much he was respected by his peers

Lol, I don't think even JW would agree with that. You can't dispute what every player/coach/great of the game has said about him. Good luck to JW but from what I've seen so far, no chance.TopLeft072011-06-01 23:24:00

Well time will tell, but he will certainly get closer to Scholes than any other British player of this current generation.Buffon II2011-06-01 23:29:30

Also TL i'm aware of the quotes attributed to Scholes, but Wilshere was voted as PFA Young Player of the Year and included in the PFA Team of the Year by his peers this season. So i'm guessing he's doing something right to impress his fellow players.

Anyway i'll leave it be. This is a thread about Scholes, and yes he was a magnificent player, and deserves all the plaudits he gets.

Three for me, and two for them.
