Well? (I've tried to use recent valuation figures).

Bizarre signing. I've been saying for years that Robbie Keane is not a championship winning player. He's not consistent enough. He's either getting 5 goals in 5 games or none in ten. TheJam2008-07-29 16:27:54

Yeah, but knowing Rafa, Keane's only gonna play about 5 games all season anyway.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Hopefully he scores his 5 goals in that period then.

I would have preferred David Silva (not a striker but), Samuel Eto'o, David Villa...who else is available.
Playing one up front is what Rafa does, so Keane will probably play him in a more withdrawn role, probably on the left (when Babel at Olympics) then on the right when he's back. But he may play...........................442!!!!!! (actual 442 not a 442 that actually plays 451)

perspective Jam - he's been served by a Spurs midfield recently and and creates as many as he scores. In a quality side he could be devastating...but I'm unlikely to see that unless he is signed

All those other players are just speculation, keane may have been the only option that the player's club was willing to sell.

He's been like it all his (club) career.

Villa would not be as cheap as the mid 20's. It's unlikley he'll be sold by his current club.
Archavin impressed at Euro 2008 in a couple of games. But was not consistent. I don't think anyone will sign him, and that the media are just beating it up to create a story.
Keane was a great asset for Spurs. who knows whether or not he is Champions League quality. I cannot say as he's not been tested at that level. He is a very energetic player though, and does have a fairly solid finish. Not up there with Torres, but could form a great partnership. Keane adds a lot off the pitch too, which should not be underestimated.
Keane's finishing record is consistent, so managers should know what sort of performance they can rely upon as an "avergae" (if such a thing exists in football!).

I think the Arshavin thing is a red herring, he's not an out an out striker and his only success is in Russia. Is it any surprise that no champions league clubs are in for him?

...and remember Milan Baros was the golden boot from Euro '04 and he could not seriously be called a top class striker. Performance at one tournament doesn't prove anything so I don't see what all the fuss over Arshevin is really.
I'd go for Villa personally, especially as he already has a proven partnership with Torres.

Arshavin was excellent for Zenit in the Uefa and was excellent for Russia at Euro. Plus he plays that role in between midfield and striker well, which is exactly what Liverpool try and do (as mentioned above by one of their fans).
Edit: I'm happy that they signed Keane though.

Spurs are going to buy Arshavin with the money they got from selling Keane.
For Liverpool, I think Keane & Torres will work well together, will be interesting to see how it turns out.

If Spurs pick up Arshavin then their attack will look pretty decent. There are plenty of goals between Arshavin, GDS, Modric and Berbatov when he's not sulking. But then scoring goals was never really their problem.

I for one am quite happy to sign Keane, he is a regular goal scorer in the prem, no guarantee that someone like Villa will be a hit in the EPL...hope he loses that lame celebration though!!

Yeah I'm happy we got a new signing. Keane is a good player but not 21.3m good. If he was younger then the price would be justified as we would be getting a much longer term investment and the possibility of great improvement.

we can only guess where benitez puts him out on to the field, as for arshavin, i think he is a little bit over rated, not saying he is not a good player, as his euro performances showed, but i dont belive he is woth the figures being pumped out by various media sources.
