Anyone support/follow Reading on this forum. I do and we're sitting in 6th place on the Championship ladder.

Dissapointing 2-2 (3-4) loss to Stoke in League cup but we'll bounce back.

Big game Tuesday against top-of-the-table Wolves.

Cmon Reading!

Im not sure if he/she uses this forum but i was looking through the "Hob Nob Anyone?" Reading forum after the Watford game and saw there was a fan from NZ on there...

I actually listened to the Stoke v Reading game on the radio, managed to get it through my Wanderers World account, sounded like an exciting match but thats radio commentary for you, Wolves away with be a tough one and you got to make sure you get a confidence boost from beating Swansea this weekend.

Reading fan of 8 years here :)

Have only ever met one other Reading fan in NZ - think we a rare breed! REAL football, rather than the corporation cup (Premiership)

would you still be saying that if you had stayed up?

Definetly a rare breed, pretty sure no one else at my school supports them.

Oh no, I have Hull City, Tottenham, Newcastle and a few others as well as the usual Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool.

I started off just following Reading and then my support grew and now I feel I can classify myself as a supporter not a follower.

yeah i got disillusioned with almost indignation that some people seemed to have for them being up there.

I was originally a Man U fan for way back - pre Ferguson and when I moved to England for a few years, got fed up with the whole "corporate - we will bleed you for your money until you are dry" and the "I have been a fan for 6 months - sack Ferguson as we have not won 2 games in a row" attitudes. I moved to Reading to teach, stayed there for a few years and rediscovered my appettie for the game. We were Third tier (old Div  2) at the time, James Harper had just arrived as a teenager from Arsenal - one of the kids i taught was a programme seller and I used to get the silent treatment all week if I failed to buy one from her. Great memories!

Reading and their half hoops?? Only the real full hoops are in 4th place! Like most, I was surprised Coppell stayed, in the past he's abandoned ship - Brighton for example.

Yep Reading the ORIGINAL hoops! Coppell was going to go - get the feeling he has a lot of self doubt (as in the Man City job) but admits the fans persuaded him to stay. He has an undeserved reputation as a walker - but had 9 years at Palace, was replaced in his second spell because Simon Jordan felt overshadowed by him, Brentford was only a short term arrangement and only left Brighton because Reading was a better offer. This is his 5th deason at Reading.

On the subject of QPR - interested in the rumour that Briatore wants to call it Queens Park City!!

4-0 over Swansea City last night. In third place but still quite a way off Birmingham and Wolves. We'll catch up, don't worry.

Reading just copied QPR

That City rumour was false reporting, Briatore is looking at suing them. Great result for your guys, but why oh why did the ruin your teams jersey's?? Lonegunmen2008-09-29 06:23:28

Incorrect...Reading began with hoops in 1871 - QPR never had theirs until the 1920s

We played in Green hooped shirts in 1892, The blue hoops were started in 1927-28 season. Reading started their blue hoops in 1938-39 season.

We (QPR) really were the first to wear the proper blue & white hoops.

so what are PROPER hoops??????
funny because I always thought hoops were straight horizonal lines that encircled a shirt...
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I think its got something to do with not going fully around the shirt. But I'm not sure...

You got it. Last season for some reason Reading went from full hoops around the top to just lines across the front with an all blue back. They've carried it on this season.

i was answering your question that you were the first team to have proper hoops. the 1871 shirts were hoops, was just wondering what you meant by proper.

Anyway QPR have had many instances of abandoning full hoops etc - the 1999 shirt looks like the hoops are broken...

Not getting at ya mate - when I was in Reading the QPR clash was the clash that everyone looked forward to, simply due to the Hoops issue!!!! The banter that when around between the 2 sets of supporters was amazing! Great stuff!

Thin hoops look sucky, like a TV test pattern. I hated it when our lot flirted with something similar in 1977/78 & 1999. A proper hoop is about 3-4 inches wide.

This seasons Reading away kit is excellent, the dopy owners at QPR abandoned our Denis the Menace jersey and came out with something resembling a Christmas Cracker. RED and blue - it looks sh*t. Our 3rd kit looks abit like the Nix home top though!!

So a 3-0 win against run-a-way leaders Wolves on their own turf. Goalsto Bikey, Cisse and OG. Slims the lead to 5 points now. Burnley next, one place below us, if we beat them we're in striking distance of Wolves.

3-1 over a Burnley earlier in the week lifts us to third just three points off Birmingham and two off Wolves. Preston then Doncaster, should both be comfortable wins to put us up into top spot.

2-1 loss to Preston overnight. Still in 3rd place but 4 points off Birmingham.

So not such a "comfortable win" then.  Despite Birmingham & Wolves having a wee gap at the top, it's a good close league is this.

Burnley should have beaten Birmingham last night (all over them acording to my unbiased sources) to keep it tighter at the top.  But alas!

I know, I know, its serious!

Yeah, tis a very good, close league. Charlton in 19th place are only 4 points off the play-offs.

Woah Hanneman has got to take the blame for that result...

First goal he collided with Ingamarrson and for the second he came out and flapped at a corner and pretty much missed it..

Do your homework, I even put the links on here for you. We got ours in 1927 and you got yours in the 30's - historical fact!

Any bets on whether Sky DORKS NZ will show the game? I think 100% NOT!

i did the homework - its just that QPR fans seem to think they are the only world authorities on how thick or thin hoops should be - but hoops are hoops no matter which width they are!

Sky will show it only if we can convince them that one of the teams is Auckland Rugby...

So very true. Unless we tell them Marc Ellis is going to streak at half time. There is no real reason Sky could not be showing the SKY UK "Live" championship games instead of repeats or repeats or repeats of other sports.
