What a stupid thread. OK, it wasn't a penalty, but its not our problem Styles is a dickhead. What were we supposed to do, miss on purpose? Bloody hell.

Interesting watching it in slow motion like that.  Is it me or is he actually throwing himself to the ground?  He's going down before the contact is made and drags his leg over his foot.  Surely that's not the Ronaldo we all know and admire so much?

I actually have a sneaking respect for SAF.  Can't stand that cheating little cnut though.  Although we lost the Champions league final it was almost worth it to see him miss his penalty and lie on the ground wallowing in self pity while his team mates got on with the job in hand.  Absolute little t**ser of the highest order.

Call me crazy... but perhaps not dive in the first place? It's a shame there's no retrospective citing that can occur in cases where the cheating is so blatant.

(and before you pull out Pires or some other Arse player diving - I believe it's crap whoever does it, and have no prob players being punished for cheating, even if it's one of ours!!!)

kinda looks like his foot hits the ball the same time the defenders does and that caused him to fall. definitely not a penalty but maybe not such a dive.

WADR... Bollocks!

He She drags his her foot forward until he she makes contact with the defenders leg, by which time he's she's already well on his her way down...

If he'd she'd landed on the ball his her foot would have kept moving vertically... not horizontally... anyway... now I know why his her hairstyle resembles that of Greg Louganis

You have to laugh at some of the comments here.I dont think its a penalty but also dont think its a dive.
I just wonder sometimes if he had signed to play in the premier league with any of the other clubs if supporters of those clubs would have as much hate.I dont believe any of you for a minute would admit you wouldnt.

Also laugh at people continuing to bring up people having never visited Old Trafford,so what if i havnt been there.Im bloody sure a lot of those fans of other clubs havnt been to that clubs ground either.

Yep im a united fan and and bloody glad i am.Just get pissed off at being labled a glory hunter.FK me i old enough to remember when we didnt always play in the top league.

Comments like this from Sir Alex... (especially after our match, what nerve!)

"I was surprised because it looked as though their lad got a foot on the ball," said Ferguson.

"But Rob Styles turned us down four or five times last year so maybe it is payback time. But he still owes us another four." <!-- E BO -->

I don't think it was a penalty. I don't think it was a dive. It was a tackle, the bloke got the ball and Cristiano fell over. Styles should have seen the ball get taken, and awarded nothing.

I hate diving also, and players should be punished. But all teams have players that do it, and just because Cristiano and he plays for United people are quick to jump on him.

I'm also proud to be a United fan, have been all of my life. I've been labeled a glory hunter and it f**ks me off something chronic, what do they want me to do, just change the team I love? That would make me a fan any team would want! I understand people have a problem because we are consistently so good and win so much more than anyone else but to say some of this sh*t is ridiculous.

na i mean he's already lost his balance and on the way down before his leg drags over the defenders leg, as a result of hitting the ball as it was kicked by the defender.

edit: actually, looking at it again it looks like ronaldo's toe area hit the defenders heel after he got the ball and well before he dragged his leg across the defenders. like i said not a penalty but i dont think it was a dive.

It wasn't a penalty, it wasn't a dive, it was a bad, bad refereeing decision. Ronaldo has dived at times but not this time, he's gone over in the tackle. Scholes, Neville or Ferdinand would have fallen in the same way.

cristiano has developed his new way of diving where like he does in the video he actually kicks himself.  i remember him doing it a couple of times last year.   it actually looks like there has been contact, even though it is with himself.

agree with the man utd fans though, if you get a penalty that is a result of a bad refereeing decision you have got to take it. arsenal got one against blackburn thanks to ebou that was probably just as bad. when you get the decisions in your favour, you have to take them because you know that sure as hell you'll get some dodgy ones against you sooner rather than later.

also think that the argument that you cant possibly support a team if you have never been to their ground is ridiculous. as long as you pick a team early and stick with them forever, no matter what happens to them then you can avoid the glory supporter tag for mine.
i think calling arsenal fans glory supporters is kind of a dud point these days..

Interesting quote from Kevin Nolan:

"Ronaldo was on the floor saying, 'I didn't want a penalty!'," said Nolan in the Daily Mail.

"I don't think one of them put their hands up asking for a penalty. Fletcher's going, 'It's not a penalty', Tevez is going, 'It's not a penalty'. Twenty players who were in the box at the time knew it wasn't a penalty."

But the little twat still got up and scored.  There was a similar incident a few years back, I can't remember who, but the guy deliberately missed the pen because he knew it was a bad call and won a sportsmanship award for it I think.

That's out of it. Would love to know who that was - does anyone know? Any links to an article/youtube clip?

It was Robbie Fowler.  Quote below from Wikipedia:

That year, he also won a UEFA Fair Play award for admitting that he had not been fouled by, Arsenal goalkeeper, David Seaman at Highbury after a penalty had been given.[12] After unsuccessfully trying to convince the referee to change his decision about the penalty Fowler took it tamely and Seaman saved. However, Seaman failed to hold on to the ball and Jason McAteer scored from the rebound.[13] Many people wrongly believe that Fowler deliberately took the penalty kick poorly for reasons of fair play. However, he later stated that "I tried to score. I never missed on purpose. It just happened, it was a bad penalty."

Totally agree - even for those glory hunting Chelsea fans (see above).

As for missing a penalty because it was a bad decision, you've got to be joking!! He wouldn't last long at the club if a player did that, assuming that he survived the manager's reaction in the changing rooms after the game.

It's not their problem they're so good everyone wants to support them, what, they're supposed to ban sales of replicas kits everywhere but OT to stop people sniping them because they're well supported. I'm not actually old enough to have endured their most recent season in the second teir but that doesn't mean I can't back the premiership team that I always have.

He didnt,he fell...And it wasnt a penalty. It annoys me when people go on about diving when it clearly wasnt...Just as much as it annoys me when players actually do dive.

Was just a terrible decision.

As for missing the penalty on purpose,f**k that, refs decision is final, and the bad ones go both ways.

Allegedly
