Great to see the NZ Media picking up on this big time - that twat Stephen Stewart (is that his name?) couldn't get over it on breakfast TV this morning.

Welcome to the real world rugby obsessed NZ media. Football is a global sport on a level rugby will never ever be.

Parents of New Zealand  - we are coming for your children!! Ryan Nelson has shown what the pay-off can be for a talented NZ kid who chooses football over rugby.

See 'The Press' front page article, basically laughing at NZ sports compared to football and Nelsen's contract. He turned down a cricket career for football, he was mocked for this. but now his salary = whole black caps team salary or All Blacks, annually.

Yes.  Well deserved Ryan.  As for thugby - as someone said earlier on this forum  'mediocre sport, mediocre wages.'  But I really think you guys are missing the point.  As Murray 'Penis Head' Deaker said: we're going after the 'big' 4 this year!!!  The Cricket World Cup (cricket's cool so I can accept that one).  The America's Cup (FFS).  The Egg Chasing World Cup.  AND THE NETBALL WORLD CUP!!!!!!!!!!!  Actually, to honest, it really does repulse me now how the Deakerites try to build sporting 'events' into something that they're clearly not.....

Let's not get sidetracked guys and girls.

Only three facts are important.
1)  Ryan is the highest paid New Zealand professional sportsperson.
2)  Football has the highest number of registered players in New Zealand.
3)  Football is taking New Zealand to more world cups this year than any other sport.

and the media profile is getting better and better, despite the TV channels.

12 countries playing rugby? More like 4 who have any sort of a chance at the world cup. The rest get a hiding from these 4..

Footballs has 100s...therefore we will never get any funding from the likes of sparc, since they only fund sports that have a chance at winning at (therefore that no other countries play). Was just having a look through SPARCs website, and al their policies, its a laugh.

Nelsen suffers hamstring injury
<!-- S BO --><!-- S IIMA -->
Nelsen's current deal at Rovers lasts until 2012
<!-- E IIMA --><!-- S SF -->Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen has been ruled out for up to a month with a hamstring injury he sustained during the 2-0 Uefa Cup defeat at Larissa.

The New Zealand international pulled up shortly after the interval and was replaced by Zurab Khizanishvili.

"It is the hamstring that he had the operation on - we think it is just a bit of scar tissue," manager Mark Hughes told the club website.

"We hope it's not serious but he will be out for about three to four weeks." <!-- E SF -->

The central defender, 29, who was sidelined for five months because of a similar injury, signed a new five-year contract with the Ewood Park club in the summer.
