Well we all saw that coming. Who is that former Barcalona manager we are rumoured to get?

Not the same since Steve Clarke left, just look what he's done at West Ham. Frank Rijkaard appears to be one of the names linked to the job, They will get someone quick as I'm guessing Ray Wilkins is in charge no? They won't want him running things for long.

I think they need to get rid of Peter Kenyon, before they start thinking about a new manager. the guy knows f-all about football - good at marketing and brand management but he shouldnt be allowed to conduct transfers and stick the manager with average players (SWP and Schevchenko), and he was the prick behind the tapping up saga of Cashley Cole.

Words fail me - we're in freefall.  What a joke of a club we've become.  Who in their right mind would take that job?

It is a joke JD i agree and i agree with what Fergie said about it being 'a sign of the times'. What if every club sacked their manager after a bad month or so?? No one would be left.

Chelski for 5th!!!

Three for me, and two for them.

A bad month for losing to Man Utd and Liverpool, and then drawing to Hull? Thats just an average month if you're not in the top four.

He'd best leave out the last six months then. Perhaps just say that he's been on gardening leave.

This was a surprise. Even more of a suprise when I read this mormning that one of the people reportedly lined up as a replacement is Avram Grant!! Not likely I know, he may take the job at Pompey, but still. Even the idea suggests that Chelsea either don't know what they're doing, or realise they made a mistake when they fired him.

It's good for United though. The team with the squad most likely to challenge us for the title and their head just got cut off.

Championship here you come, back to the good ol days with 9,000 crowds. Scolari wasn't that bad, some players were just under performing. When the Russian gets bored, and sells up, it will become interesting. Lonegunmen2009-02-10 18:36:16

What a pity... It's been 20 years since we did the double over them! Why couldnt he stay and leave them struggling against the "Big 4"?!

Seriously though, its crazy what has happened there. Well, I guess whats happening in football. Just imagine, the first four years of Mr Ferguson weren't great. He would never have lasted with that time in today's world! If only...

Jeepers, taking Chelskis note Wenger should be out too...oh wait Arsenal is a proper football club...not a venture that just spends rediculous amounts of money to win tropheys

229 pages of angst-ridden naval gazing on the Arsenal thread might suggest Wenger is very lucky to still be in a job.  But you're right, it's easier to sack the manager than look at the longer term and build for the future with a coach who knows his onions.  Fergie and Wenger were given time (and money not forget) to build great teams and have repaid that ten times over.  Bringing a new coach in is not going to transform Chelsea's season.  I've been saying for weeks our season is over and we need an end of season clear out.  It's the players who need to be cleared out not the coach.  If they don't want to play for him or don't like his methods, then they should f**k off.  End of.

Scolari was an international football manager not a club manager, it looked like he didn't/couldn't make the change.

Chelsea had a perfect manager in Grant he did a amazing job, they actually played good football and as a team too! was such a shock, and then he gets fired because he pulled then out of a dark hole that mourinho left just before he quit(i think he quit to save his rep)

Fergie has spent way to much, Wenger spends smart Arshavin (discloed fee) is lookin likely to be highest fee ever paid around 13million pounds.

I don't know what they can do when the players are gettin paid sooo much and people behind the scenes sack the coaches when they dont know anything about football.surely if they higher the guy and he does  crap job (which i dont think he did) they should be fired too?

I've been saying this to mates for years, and its so true.

Anyway, Scolari would've wanted to leave before he got "mutual consented"

So did he forget about Europe as well?

Well, he got a payoff of 15million pounds. So if he's unhappy, he's very rich unhappy. Hiddink emerged as favourite to replace him. The fans though, are apparently dreaming of a Zola-Clarke combination. Unlikely I would say at this stage.

Interestingly Sir Alex was possibly just one or two defeats from the sack at one point there. I'll have to dig round to find out what year that was, it was so long ago I was far too young!

I think the reason we gave Grant the sack was because I think Roman thought that he just got the team Jose left and didn't real earn his results. I disagree with that 3 2nd placings is pretty good.

I think chasing Zola would be a good move, he has a passion for the club, something you will rarely find in managers theses days. Although Hiddink is also good, look what he did with South Korea and Australia.

from memory (of a DVD as  I wasn't even born) it was 3 years into his reign and it was basically FA Cup or the sack, then they beat Palace I think at Wembley

Is this a fair comparison. Ferguson started 24 years ago at Man U. I seem to recall he went 5 years before picking up a trophy. 8 managers changing this season. I dont think the moneybags that run clubs these days would give him that time.

Zola and Clarke? Zola seems a genuine nice guy. Chelsea know that and West Ham are finding that out very quickly. He was quoted as saying that he doesnt walk out on something he ahs just committed himself to, (or words to that effect). He seems to enjoy developing players rather than managing ego's, no offence, so I dont know how he would cope at this stage of his career, and we are now talking end of season, with the difference in attitudes.
Clarke on the other hand was told to pay his way out of a contract after giving 20 years of service. Hate to see either go but if Zola went at the end of the season, my bet would be that SC would step up with the fans support.
