for Corkster's sake i hope they stay up, as long as the Mighty Tigers finish above them

and if they go down i'd  be hoping to not keep them company

i expect all 3 promoted teams will find it difficult

We might not finish 5th (which is the new 1st) this coming season but we will in our 2nd.

I wish the team luck but reality suggests likely quick return....along with at least one other of the promoted teams and one new struggler! But sometimes the odds are upset! So plenty to play for.....

I'd be Stoke'd if they stayed up, but I hope they do well.

(In case nobody noticed, the <admittedly, very poor> pun is in bold).

It's a little known fact that the term 'Stoked' defined as follows:

"- adjective - to be "stoked" is to be completely and intensely enthusiastic, exhilirated, or excited about something. those who are stoked all of the time know this; being stoked is the epitome of all being. when one is stoked, there is no limit to what one can do."

Originates from being a Stokie supporter.

I have $20 with the TAB for Port Vale to be the first club to be promoted and Sjoke to be the first to be relegated!!!

I was going to turn off Sky sports so I dont see Sjoke but then I would miss the Phoenix away games!!

I'm looking forward to watching hull City play though! I think Stoke are in for some spankings unless they start buying.

WBA will probably stay up. Losing Gera may be a problem but I think they've got the know-how to stay there.
The other two I really fear for;
Hull; Phil Brown's been there before as an assistant manager, but that's all. They've got a few players with Prem experience (Barmby, Hughes, Windass, Folan, Marney) but all are at Hull because they weren't good enough to be in the Prem right now.
Stoke; they've gone up too early, the players they've got are solid Championship players with the odd bit of class thrown in for good measure. Steve Simonsen seems to be showing the form that made him one of England's best keeping prospects while at Tranmere and Ryan Shawcoss is a talented young defender but who else?
Sadly, I'm reminded by both of Derby before last season.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Very considered and knowlegeable post by The Jam. I think this is spot on. I expect the gap between the top ten clubs and the rest to grow next season. Hull and Stoke will fill bottom two places plus one from WBA (but they have a shout), Fulham (again), Middlesborough, Sunderland, West Ham (sorry Hammers) and Bolton. Blackburn could be surprise strugglers.

Good or bad starts to the season could decide all this fairly early this time round.

I'd pick Fulham for the drop. Hodgson did a miracle last season but.......

Oi! Don't be comparing Stoke to Derby, there's a lot of rubbish written about Stoke in the media and I promise you we will get more points. It's too early to make proper predictions until we see which players come in, and there's a lot more to the existing squad thanTheJam knows about. Around five quality signings (including two on loan) should see us storm up the table to 17th place!
Gooarn you rip roaring Potters!

Stoke haven't worked the transfer market at all yet. Hull on the other hand have pulled off a good signing in George Boateng, even if he can only do the job for them for this one season he's an experienced premier league player. Also Bernard Mendy seems to be a good signing. Will be an interesting season.

Stoke only got promoted because the loan signings they had were good. They will struggle without the loan signings and Coates cant pump as much money into the club as they will need to stay up

I reckon Hull will stay up this season. George Boateng alone is a fantastic signing. Geovanni isn't bad business either. Will the Tigers keep Myhill in goal? He was quality last season. Are probably lacking a striker though, Carl Fagan doesn't quite inspire me.

cheers Willyb and DKP, i hope you are right!

I hadn't heard that boateng has actually put pen to paper yet (i obviously hope he does)

but mendy and geovanni look like good signings - particularly Mendy - we'll see what Brown can get Geovanni to produce in terms of consistency

agree DKP, fagan averages more bookings per game than he does goals

i think we'll keep myhill - he's one of about 3 who could play in each division with us - quite an achievement!

Looks like Stoke are going to buy Scott Carson. A good buy despite his England screw up.

4 million pounds not a bad buy.  I suspect he'll be kept busy.

No Carson, the deal has fallen over, but we've got onto the ginga bandwagon and it looks like we're signing up Dave Kitson for about the same amount.

Stoke City podcast. May even be of some interest to others, especially if recently promoted.

I have enough trouble keeping up with the Nix n Tigers, (actually, that should read " I get in enough trouble...") but yeah i might check it out

I'm envious of the fact you signed Olofinjana - he looks like as good un from what I'd read

And NewstalkZB in the background.
There's a good jingle about Olofinjana, at least his name, at the end of the podcast

a big night for use 'hopeful travellers' Corkster

i think we need to sign a deal with  each other that ensures that both our clubs avoid the drop

once we've got that sorted , i'm sure the universe will fall into line with our plans

oh well, whatever happens it's bound to be memorable

Clearly you're not worried about the threat from Dagenham and Redbridge.

We can only hope you're right about the Stoke spankings, Vale should be above them within two seasons, although I think it may take the Valiants four seasons to win the Premiership.

The Premiership you are thinking of is North of the Border, They're equivalent of the English League Two.
