Maybe, but we'll win, so it will be necessary.

That just makes me scared

I was confident until a couple of days ago. Now I'm leaving my lounge for the game and all these other unfamiliar things are happening, I don't like it one bit.

Great arseblog last night, worth a full paste;

The things I have enjoyed about this season
<https://arseblog.com/2014/05/the-things-i-have-enjoyed-about-this-season/>

Amazingly, for the final few day of the Premier League season, there's
literally nothing happening. This is because we've already secured a
top four place and aren't, at this moment, cacking ourselves about
having to get the right result on the final day of the season.

I'll go on record and say I'm a fan of this. I mean, beating out Sp*rs
while they think it's 1-1 at Newcastle is hilarious and all, but
sometimes it's nice to do things without so much drama. It's certainly
better for the blood pressure. And the heart. And the bowels. And if
you're missing the hilarity, remember that Tim Sherwood is manager of
that lot. That should do it.

So, while I know there have been frustrations this season, I thought
I'd put together a list of the things I've really enjoyed about this
campaign. You know, although the comebacks and overhauling big points
gaps were ultimately fun, I don't think I really liked those seasons
very much as a whole. There was just too much wrong overall, but even
if things didn't work out the way we'd have liked this time around,
there was a lot more to be encouraged about.

Please note: this list is in random order, mostly because I'm just
making it up as I go along.

**Being top**

It didn't last as long as necessary, but dammit it was fun being up
there while it did. Maybe it made things more frustrating when we
slipped away, but I'd take dropping down a few places over making a
bollix of your season in September and October and playing a game of
impossible catch-up every time. There's a lot more to learned from
leading than just being another also-ran who has no chance of leading.
It was a title challenge, that's an improvement.

You have to enjoy being up there while you're there, especially when
most of the previous years you've been playing catch-up and looking
enviously at those above.

**Aaron Ramsey finding Billy's Boots**

Oof! I've always said he was a good player and that at some point it
would click for him, but I didn't expect this kind of a leap forward
in his career. Goals, assists, drive, energy – and the rest. There
used to be a time people would bemoan his name on the teamsheet, now
they cry about his absence. He has also broken the world record for
saying 'ever so well' the most times over the course of one season.

**Jack Wilshere's goal**

The one against Norwich. Yes, we've been guilty at times of
overplaying it, but man, when it comes off it's just something else.
Plus, it gave us that fantastic 'Ooooooooh' moment when the crowd saw
just what a goal it was on the replays in the stadium.

**The Mertescielny Axis of Awesome**

I know I should qualify this by mentioning the heavy defeats away from
home, but let's not ignore the fact that this is probably the best
central defensive partnership since Toure and Campbell in the 2003-04
season. I might even suggest it's better, because that team had the
awesomeness going forward to make their lives easier. Much of what was
good about us this season was built on the defensive platform they
helped create. Which brings me to:

**A relatively stable back five**

Gotta give some love to Bacary Sagna, Kieran Gibbs and the keeper too.
Having a consistent back four for most of the season was really
important, and as I've written recently, I think Szczesny has been a
much underrated success this season. Again, the view of what he's done
has been skewed by the spankings, but when you look at what he has
contributed <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN-TF5ecAco>
it ought to be recognised. And he's still just 24.

**Arsenal 3-0 Sp*rs**

Three games and three wins against a team that spent over £100m in the
summer. £100m! And the combined value of all of those players now is
three bags of flour, an old raincoat and a handful of magic beans.
Glorious. Made even more amusing by the fact they put the janitor in
charge. Comedy gold. It's like having a sitcom that doesn't get crap
after a few series, every year there's something new, fresh and funny
about what they do and how they do it.

**Mesut Özil**

Despite this pathetic insistence on certain sections of the media that
he's been a waste of money or is 'nicking a living', I've enjoyed
having the German. Not just for what he brings to the team – which
should be obvious to anyone – but also what his signing meant. I
think we've lost sight of the impact it had, and will have in the
future. I don't expect £40m signings to become the norm, but that we
did it once means we can do it again, and his presence is a draw for
players we might want to bring in.

**The cup run**

There's obviously still one game to go, but it's funny to hear people
talk about how Arsenal 'scraping past Wigan', and 'only' facing Hull
in the final would be some kind of shallow victory if we were to
achieve it. They ignore the fact we beat Sp*rs, Liverpool and Everton
on the way to the final stages of this competition, and as somebody
whose very first Arsenal memory is 1979, Brady with his socks down,
and all the rest, the cup has a special significance for me.

**That little boy**

You know, the one inside that Dutch Skunk. Call me a small, petty man
if you will. Point to his Premier League medal from last season if you
like. All I know is that being sold a pup by Ferguson about his
future, then being managed by David Moyes and coached by Phil Neville
must have been hellish for him, and I enjoyed that. This section also
includes the tears of John Terry and Ashley Cole. Naturally.

**PerBook/FaceMert**

"Arsenal have suffered another transfer blow after target Josip Drmic reportedly agreed a move from Nurnberg to Bayer Leverkusen."

Would we call that a transfer blow? Would we?

I've enjoyed watching us. That's it. Simple. We've been playing really good football. We've scored some exceptional goals, and there's been some fantastic build up. Coupled with the revelations of Ramsey & The Ox, as well as Flamini to a lesser extent.

I've wanted to see this stat all week, was thinking it was the case but couldn't be arsed finding it/calculating it!
Fascinating to see that MCFC are likely to get it after being up there but not dominant all season. When/How you peak is crucial.

Makes me more nervous, but I guess those kind of things have to be planned with councils in advance and couldn't really be organised on the day with no notice. And it's just better to do it the next day rather than have to wait 2 weeks or however long in advance councils require notice. Planning probably starts after winning the semi finals. Every club in a final must have something in place in case they win, would expect Hull have made similar arrangements.

The bigger question, where does the premier league trophy sit? Given city are the favourites do you keep the trophy in Manchester and get it on a chopper to Anfield if the miracle happens?

They have two trophies so there will be one at each (indeed when Chelsea were also in the race there was talk of having to borrow a trophy that has already been given out lol).

Good news and bad news.

Good news. We will be open for the FA cup final.

Bad News. Its technically outside our licensing hours (8am -3am) So no alcohol will be available. Coffee and non alcoholic beverages will be fine.

Any idea of what the final headcount will be? (just in case we need more than 1 staff on)\

Also im not working so im a +1

Kosc deal is great news, these sorts of things shouldn't be looked at lightly - a couple of seasons ago we struggled with every single contract renewal, now not so much. Just this season we've renewed deals and extended stays for Kosc, Mertesacker, Cazorla and Ramsey - precisely the types of renewals we always struggled with and had richer clubs sniffing around us. Not so any longer, thus showing our stronger financial position.

Good piece on it by Cross on ESPNFC;

Headcount is currently at 13...

I am guessing The Pub etc all can't serve beer either at that time?

Is anyone actually keen to be drinking anyway?

Man it's gonna be so out of it meeting the people I've been spewing my arsenal yarns to for years but don't even know their real names hahahaha

I didn't think alcohol would be served either due to licencing laws but coffee is fine with me to keep me awake. Will probably drive down from Palmy earlier, stay with friends and then be at BB by 4am. Not worth falling asleep at the wheel. My +1 is still a maybe. Will be talking with him this weekend. No secret knock. likely we will through the side door open at 3:30 at everyone is welcome. I've met most of the YF Gooners but new faces will be awesome.

Im thinking I will wear my burgundy Bergkamp shirt. My 10/11 Ramsey shirt may also be a good shout, but Emirates logo peeled of it after about a week.

Fabianski started in goal...interesting. Either consolation for not getting the Cup start, or warming him up.

Mertesacker finally got a rest, and Jenkinson's work rate was rewarded with a nice goal.

Ramsey though. Poo during the game, but one crack at goal and BOOM town.

lovely assist from giroud too

overall he's had a decent season despite a brief drop when ramsey and ozil were injured. 22 goals this season, not sure how many assists but 9 in the EPL alone (5th equal in the league, along with Ozil, and one ahead of Cazorla and Ramsey).

I was surprised at the team line up this morning. Only Ches and BFG rested. I was sure that Ramsey wouldn't have been risked and Giroud would have been rested and Sanogo given a start. Sounds like we came through unscathed though and the good thing is that the winning momentum has continued which will give us confidence.

Santi rested too but yea the point stands. I was surprised as well.
Man Sanogo was desperately unlucky not to score with that low shot, I really hoped he'd break his duck prior to next season.
Awesome to see Jenkinson nab one - although I thought he scored before in an FA Cup or League Cup tie? That crazy game against Reading?
Can relate to him somewhat as to what that must have felt like, with him being a lifelong gooner. I've had dreams where I've played and scored for Arsenal, to do that for real must've been absolutely mental. Good lad.
Vermaelen not even on the bench this morn, and Mertesacker not on the bench either, suggest we have CB issues for the cup final perhaps? I know they were only rested but to not be on the bench perhaps suggests there are some actual injury worries there. Oh man the slightest thing is making me sh*t my pants about this cup final. I can't handle this guys. The next week will be the slowest moving one in history.
If we don't score early I'm gonna be an absolute mess.

Any Auckland Arse fans heading out to watch the Cup final? Fox's?

From the official Arsenal New Zealand Fan Club (the good buggers that sorted me and Arsenal tickets to the 1-0 over Sp*rs at the Emirates in September):

The only Place we can find in Auckland open and screening the game live at 4am is SAMMYS BAR @ SKY CITY CASINO

Gooner’s will be meeting here to watch the game

The bar knows we are coming and will allow football shirts to be worn

I'll be there with the mrs and a couple of others I imagine...

Nah. Kallstrom. Wenger predicted it here:

"There's a possibility he will not play, but also a possibility he will score a vital winning goal."

So I know we have one more week before our season is properly over, but I'm already getting itchy seeing transfer action going down...

Looks like ManU have signed Luke Shaw, and Chelsea have all but sewn up Diego Costa.

Draxler reckons he's definitely staying at Schalke for another season and the much-rumoured Drmic has apparently signed with Bayer Leverkusen.

Might be another week before we start looking at things but I hope Arsene is seriously trying to do something before the world cup.

2006 should be a good reference - we signed Rosicky right before it, he scored two screamers and had a good tournament, and we thanked our lucky stars as that would've surely increased his fee had we not already done the deal...

Few notables missing too. We scored some real crackers this season.

About half of our top 10 would be against Norwich wouldn't they?! Don't know what they ever did to us but we scored some real stunners against them this season.

Ramsey's volley the other day and of course Wilshere's team goal are not even my favourites against Norwich. That goes to Ramsey in the home game when he weaved through the box and left half their team on the floor before finishing. Closest thing to a Bergkamp goal without being the man himself.
