Glad we didn't go back with more money or a longer contract for Vardy. 4 years would be madness for a 29yo with a game reliant on pace.

Not many good options out there but we've simply got to get a striker though.

Interesting that Sky Sports have just released a story in response to the Wenger comments, saying that 'sources have claimed within the last half an hour that Vardy hasn't actually made a decision yet'.

Call me crazy but I don't think it's over just yet. I think it's more than plausible that Vardy's agent has got him playing the game right now, trying to get either more money, or a fourth year out of us.

Wenger's comment last night may well have been his way of saying "no way pal".

from all accounts Xhaka has been on top form in all 3 games so far......great to hear

As our search for a magically strikers carries on, from what's on show at euro there actually isnt that many top line strikers around

Ah, but have you been watching the Copa America's? This guy Sanchez has been on fire for Chile! Seems like there is SOME quality around this summer.

I'm still big on Lacazette:

Player Age Games Played Goals Assists Average Rating
Lacazette 24 42(1) 23 3 7.28
Icardi 23 32(2) 16 4 6.97
Morata 23 22 (20) 9 9 6.84

All data from whoscored.com

In fairness to Morata he was riding the bench a bit but still...

Morata has scored 2 in 2 averaging a 7.81 rating, while neither Icardi or Lacazette has kicked a ball in anger since the season ended.

Apparently Icardi has married his former team mates ex-wife and this kept him out of the Argentina squad:

https://www.espnfc.com.au/argentina/story/2865236/a...

While Lacazette missed out to Giroud, Griezman, Martial, and Gignac.

You would have thought 20 goals a season two years in a row would have seen him in ahead of Martial or Gignac.

Gignac is a poor man's Giroud, playing in the mexican league. Can't believe he's in the french squad tbh.

New plan, stuff the new striker, let's put everything into Pogba and play a 4-1-2-1-2 formation like:

                 GK

LB      CB      CB       RB

               Granit

          Pogba Cazorla

                Ozil

       Sanchez Giroud

That's title winning stuff.

Yeah there's merit in that madness as we might really struggle to get someone as good as Giroud when we were wanting an upgrade.

Would Wenger pay 70-100 mill on a Pogba, and even bigger question would he change the formation?

Hate to say it that we'll bring in a striker inferior to Giroud

Actually I think we're more likely to get a winger/attacking midfielder

Maybe Nolito, as he seems like a Wenger signing??

Nolito? No thanks. Bang average.

Three for me, and two for them.

Wilshere starting. Heading to The Old Bailey (closest place to work) to watch it so I'll at least make it to work about 9.

Wales 2-0 up already. Ramsey scored the first.

Wilshere didn't have a good game and didn't do much for his chances of starting the next one. Looked very much like someone who hasn't played for a year.

Lucky we signed Xhaka before the Euros or he'd be out of Wenger's price range now.

Hell yea Xhaka is looking pretty darned exciting ajc

Absolutely salivating at the thought of him, Cazorla and Ozil knocking it around.

I expect some pretty high possession percentages next season!

Getting a fast striker is so so crucial now. With the ball-playing ability we'll have from anywhere on the park, we need to have quick forwards making runs ALL day.

Must admit, if Walcott was to sort himself out, these ball-playing mids are so well suited to his game. Walcott on the right, Sanchez on the left, and a bloody quick animal of a striker up top, would be pretty damaging you would think.

Sounds like we're getting this 20yo CB from Bolton, Rob Holding.

If that happens, then you would think the only other purchase would be a striker, or failing that, a wide forward.

I saw Draxler's name came up again yesterday.

The way Ramsey is playing in the Euros, him and Xhaka is an exciting partnership.

Stupid comment as he can't get into the side and when he does he is dragged.

He can get into the side. He was first choice during qualifying and named man of the match 5 games in a row. He's not currently starting because he's lacking match fitness having been injured all season. He looked the best player on the pitch when he came on for the last 20 minutes or so against Russia, but his legs were gone after 30 minutes this morning.

From the site you highlighted.

Bloke has one bad match and all of a sudden he can "never get into the side and when he does he's dragged".

I never said that he is not a good player, if fact I have always rated him.

I was responding to what was a ridiculous comment that he was the best player in the England team.

In this instance I am an England supporter regardless of what club the players are from. I know that he would not have made that stupid comment had Jack played for Spurs, City etc.

Conveniently ignored I assume Legs?

I'm not necessarily agreeing with foal, but it's just ridiculous to call it a stupid comment and claim that wilshere can't get in the side at all.

If he had been match-fit he'd be a shoe in. Hodgson is a big fan.

I did not conveniently ignore as the comments were from newspapers not fans. As I have already said, I did not say he was not a good player.

It is a typical over reaction about anything that does not put Arsenal or its players in a great light.

As one of your own has already said get off you high horse.

So, Vardy. Doesn't really look that good against packed defences? I.e. The type of defence Arsenal faces in 80% of games.

Thought he terrorised them all game, but it was too much to do basically on his own.

Yeah, thought his movement gave them the most problems (assumed you were asking based on the game).

Hmm I thought he was anonymous virtually all game, apart from his one-on-one early on that he fluffed. I was actually shocked when Sturridge was hauled off instead of Vardy.

Madrid have exercised Morata's buyback clause, so he's back on their books now, presumably to flick on at a profit.
