Interesting move from real. Wonder who will pay the fee they are after... Psg? Manu? $ity? Chel$ea? In other news, I've read that we are monitoring Manus Blind as he has some issue with jose. Can't see it myself but who knows.

I don't fancy us paying the rumoured 60m they are after, but perhaps Real might not have the footing to demand such a fee?

You'd think he wouldn't be interested in non-champs league clubs. If he wants to start then he might not be keen on the likes of Bayern and City, who probably aren't after him anyway.

That leaves who? Realistically us and PSG?

If he wanted us then surely we'd be able to drive that fee down a bit.

Why would Citeh not be an option?

They need a person to compete/backup a slightly injury prone Aguero. It's not likley to be Ihenacho or Bony.

Plus working under (probably) the best current coach in the world isn't a bad carrot.

Xhaka has looked very disciplined at remaining where he is supposed to be as his heat map against France shows. Looks a similar type of player to Alonso.

He's been immense in the three games so far. Can't wait for him to don the shirt.

They've actually got a chance of advancing through the comp too, being on the 'kind' half of the draw.

They would be an option of course. Just that if he wants to be a starter, then trying to get ahead of Aguero at the peak of his career might not be the way to go!

Just read on goal.com, that a newspaper is reporting that juv can sell morata if some one comes along with a higher bid than the buy back clause. Not sure how that works though...

Should have stopped there, but I would guess the clause just means they have to accept a bid of that amount from Real Madrid. But if someone else bids higher they could also accept that and then it's up to the player. As we saw with Liverpool though these clauses don't tend to mean much if the club decides they won't honour them.

Did you guys see the weather roll in? Crazy scenes as the players went off and the stadium told spectators to seek shelter!

A few rumours linking us with Periŝić this morning. Now that would be a signing.

Vardy contract extended at Leicester, which ought to be the end of that!

Agent just used us to get a better deal where he already was. Hopefully there are other targets rather than missing out on our first choice and ending up making do with nothing as we have done often before.

One of those happy either way things? I feel disappointed mainly because I liked the idea of having our striker signing done early. It's a tough market, woulda been good to have it sorted in June.

Great for Leicester fans, and the league really

Rumours we're in for someone better than Vardy (to be fair, that could be anyone who wasn't at Fleetwood FC four years ago lol)... I know who I hope it is but I don't want to jinx... because I have that power!!! lol

Mmmmmm that would be delightful.

Out there rumors of United bidding for Ramsey, hard to see him leaving us for europa league.

Depends on what is more important to him. He must be on 80k p/week with you guys? United pay wages above odds and you'd think he'd get on at least 120k p/week there if not more given he's British, a midfielder and still only 25.

I'd dare to say we could easily give him 120k to make him stay, we have a few players on quite a bit higher than that. Hell I think Walcott is getting that much!

I also very much doubt we'd allow him to go there, it seems that since we got rich we're dead-set against selling to rivals, which I love. He's also said himself that if he leaves he'd want to go to Spain.

I expect we'll see him in Real Madrid in the next few years, the Bale connection would do it #bromance

Oh & @Leighbo you're bang on regarding wages; but I think the days of Arsenal letting players go to their EPL competition are limited now - more than ever the finances are there to keep up with the market & recruit the top personnel.

Times reporting that Vardy said no because he was told he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter.

Arsenal are financially very strong - a sign of playing the long game for future sustainability and something I hope we're doing now with the redeveloped stadium and our revenue and huge increase in valuation of the club. The rumors of us either being sold OR a significant investor coming on board are interesting but hope that the average LFC fan can realize what a great job FSG have done with us off the field (if not on it initially)

He's done well out of it. Get's at least one season of champions league football as the best striker at the club, $120K per match, and a 4 year deal at that rate as he enters his twilight.

Looking long term would be amazing if he managed to finish his career in the reverse order he had his rise!

twilight? ffs, he's 29. it's his prime.

Permalink Permalink

Some studies I read about a while back showed pretty firm evidence that peak form in football for midfielders and forwards is achieved in the bracket 27 - 30. Vardy's game is built around pace, so can't see him peaking much beyond that.

Having said that, there is also decent evidence around the amount of high-level football played affecting that i.e. if they play a lot of games at a high level at a young age, they burn out quicker. Thinking the likes of Michael Owen. Perhaps Rooney falling into that bracket. Wouldn't be surprised if Fabregas doesn't go for too much longer, considering he was starting week in week out for Arsenal at 16.

In that respect, Vardy is the opposite, so perhaps could peak into his early/mid 30s after all.

Hard to tell, but I'm glad we didn't risk it by offering 4 years.

Yeah going to be a good time for some online shopping from the UK.

Forget about getting players like Morata now too (however unlikely it already was). Instant price hike on anyone who would qualify for a work permit now the potential player pool has reduced. Suspect this is why Wenger went for Vardy to begin with, and rumours of Sturridge also hanging around.

Perhaps this is the reason Lukaku rumours have blown up overnight?

You'd think buying from other English clubs will be the best way to go with the pound in its current state.

An italian journalist has claimed we've agreed personal terms and will now submit an offer.

Not sure a striker of his style is that useful for us given we have Giroud. On fence.
