Liverpool and Leicester chasing the Ox.

Your thoughts Gooners?

Cash in if a decent offer comes. Seems a decent guy with a good attitude and never hear of him getting into trouble off the pitch etc. But he hasn't contributed anything for a long time now and we're carrying too much deadweight too close to the starting 11.

Excellent player we would be fudgeing mental to sell. £ 35million maybe yes. But no need to sell and if fit he should be starting at least half of our games.

Agree with Foal on this one.

If we gonna get rid of a forward it should be Theo first imo.

Ox has way more upside as the yanks would say.

I'd loan him there - give him a chance to get more regular playing time because his previous outings haven't suggested he would beat Sanchez, Campbell, or Iwobi for a spot on the wing, or Ramsey, Wilshere, Coqu, Ozil, Santi, Elneny, Granit for a central spot too.

Don't forget, last year playing in midfield in critical games against City and a game in the ECL he coughed up possession late on which lead to the opposition scoring.

He's fast, he's English, and his banter is excellent. But for me he doesn't make the bench. While we still see potential in him let's hand him off to Liverpool or the Foxes and see if he'll get more regular game time and make more of a contribution. Kind of like Lukaku going on loan to Everton.

IF we're offered $tupid $quid for the Ox OR for Theo AND that $$$ is reinvested in areas we need to strengthen the squad THEN I'm all for it BUT if it's a sale for the sake of a sale and to fatten Stan's pockets then of course we should keep them.

I'm not convinced either of them can fulfil their potential though in saying that, I'd let Theo go first if we had a choice - older, higher wages, less likely to develop further to be the top class player his potential and tool kit has always suggested he could be. I'd be happy to keep the Ox around for another year or two and hopefully he kicks on - may even benefit from a loan to a lower tier premiership club to get some games under his belt and hopefully build some consistency (and not get broken).

I can just imagine Walcott doing a Bale and going to Spain for someone like Athletico or Sevilla. Could be really good for him to get away from England and the english pressures and just focus on playing football in a league that's less physically demanding.

A cash up on Walcott to Spain is good for both player and club.

Rumours that Szczesny will do another year on loan in Rome.

Good option I reckon. Keep him on the books, with a starting role at a pretty decent club. Come Cech's retirement we could do worse than bring him back in, if he has continued to develop.

I think 35 would be at the high end of what Ox would be worth. But as he is english, and i can see a few english clubs that would fork out that for him (liverpool for one).

And lets be honest, clubs have paid a lot more for a lot less recently. look at what united paid for Fellaini or Depay, Delph for city or what Chel$ea paid for anyone in their team. These players (i'd argue) weren't/aren't worth their transfer fees. But clubs are willing to pay through the nose to get who they want. A players market value seems to be solely depended on who is interested in paying for them, rather than their value in a team.

I like the Ox though and i hope he stays. Theo on the other hand...

You may be right but lets ask this question. Would Arsenal pay 35 million for him if he were with another club? I don't think so.

In August 2011 we paid £12-15m for him. The link you posted says his "market value" in August 2011 was less than £5m.

Reckon we'd be lucky to get back what we paid for him personally.

No, because we aren't Man Utd, Chelsea or Man City and do not usually overspend on players.

We wouldn't, but plenty of other clubs pay over-inflated fees for English players like that - Man City, Chelsea, Newton Heath, etc etc.

That might be fair comment, but more to the point--- he is not worth 35 m.

Nobody can definitely say what a player is worth until someone pays something for him, and then he is worth that amount.

True,   and although I like him, you won't get 35 m for him.

Darren Bent and Thierry Henry were both sold for 16 million pound in 2007. Transfer market figures are bollocks.

Not really comparing like with like. Henry was 30 and past his best, Bent was 23 and with his best years ahead of him. Bent looked like he was going to be good, and he did turn into a decent Premiership level player but didn't hit the heights it looked like he could have done. Bent was also English and moving within the league which attracts a premium.

Exactly, which is why I don't really agree with the idea that we "don't overpay for players." We generally don't pay as much as the other super rich clubs, though have made big money signings recently. However, if all the other big money clubs are paying similar fees and we don't match them then I'm not sure whether its everyone else overpaying or us not matching current market rates.

Yeah but if Chambers is a season long loan at a club with a Manager willing to coach and support him then that's a win/win.

Xhaka changing numbers already. Hope the club hasn't sold too many shirts with his name and number yet though I assume they will exchange them.

Don't see LB as a key area for upgrades. Would assume either Monreal or Gibbs would be sold if RR comes in.

I think the general assumption is that Gibbs is going elsewhere to look for a starting berth...

Personally I'd happily keep him and focus on other areas to strengthen. But if he does go, sounds like we could do a lot worse than this Rodriguez fella.

Rambo gets an unfair amount of crap.

Haircut is indeed a horror show but some of the carry-on you see about him is pretty ridiculous. The guy carried us to the top four in 2013/14, and hit the winner for our first trophy in 9 years. Hasn't been quite as good since then but he is still an important and high quality player for us.

Plus he has to take all that unfair sh*t every time he goes to Stoke, where he had his leg snapped, sometimes I wonder if he'll just up sticks and take off. Wouldn't blame him.
