Yes, mega world football superstar from Real Madrid, with numerous trophies and 50+ international caps in cost more than 18 year old left back from Southampton shocker. 30 million more than paid for left back Kieran Gibbs however.

Aurier > Eboue massively Brumbys, both offensively and defensively from what I've seen.

I also believe the talk about his apparent lack of defensive nous seems over-stated. I watched him a lot in the world cup and saw very little evidence of apparent positional deficiencies. I'd love  to see some stats but he seemed to get a lot of interceptions and won a lot of tackles, suggesting he was often in the right place at the right time.

Our fullbacks are ALWAYS attacking - I struggle to see how Sagna or even Lauren would be considered overly defensive for the fullback position. Sagna sits in the attacking half for so much of every game.

I also think covering for the fullback's raids and helping Mertesacker will be sorted by a world class DMF rather than a more defensive fullback.

Attacking fullbacks have always been a critical part of Wenger's style from the day he came to Arsenal - especially with Walcott out right who plays more  as a striker, making outside-in runs and leaving huge space for our fullback to run into.

On Debuchy, boy did he do well for me in fantasy football this season gone ;)

I always thought Sagna was better too but I really rate Deschamps and he seems to prefer Debuchy... so perhaps he's got the goods...

overlapping fullbacks was indeed invented by The Arsenal. Well, Sir Herbie Chapman at any rate...

Joel Campbell, reckon he's good for 10-15 this season? He's looked very good for me for Costa Rica and should be rivalling Giroud for a starting birth by the end of the season.

I thought he worked really hard and the greeks kicked lumps out of him. Im amazezed he managed 120 minutes and buried his penalty seeing as he started the match carrying a knock. tough lad.

You don't think Sagna has always been more defensive than Clichy/Gibbs? C'mon man. He's one of the best defensive full backs in the world; still is.

Where is the world class DMF coming from? Until we find him, I don't think we can have two attacking full backs that have question marks over their defence.

My top 3: Wilshire against Norwich Tomas against That Lot. Ramsey against Norwich (in that clip it looks like Norwich fans are applauding the goal)

Cazorla in the Cup final was my favourite Arsenal goal, possibly of all time not just this season. Given the situation it really had to go in for us to have any chance, and the way the Backbencher erupted and then the celebrating being strangled in a headlock and hugged by fellow Gooners I barely knew (or just met even) was special and I'll never forget it.

After that, Ramsey against Norwich at home when he left half the Norwich team on the floor. Bergkamp couldn't have done that any better. And of course Wilshere against Norwich, Rosicky against Spurs, Ramsey against Liverpool.

Warm fuzzies watching Ramsey. God what a season he had.

Wilshere vs Norwich - incredible one touch play

Ramsey vs everyone - incredible technique

Cazorla vs Hull - incredible importance (and from a FK none-the-less, so un-Arsenal)

Sorry Brumbys re: Aurier!

Valeo guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Man we scored some good goals this season.

And man is there a crapload of transfer rumour bs out there right now. Every man and his dog is being linked with us.

I'd be pretty stoked if we got Sanchez and Schneiderlin. He looked good for Southampton last season, still only 24 as well.

Poor Southampton, they're being gutted like a fish. Gonna be tough for them to put a brand new squad together, do they even have a manager?

Ronald Koeman is the new Southampton manager. Shame to see the team split apart. Guess he should have some clout and good contacts in terms of attracting players though, pretty big name.

I agree - that's quite a daycent manager signing.

Out of the Saints and Hotspurts I reckon I know who will have a manager sacking first this coming season...

Southhampton have a factory churning these players out. same place we got Walcott and The Ox. They'll be fine, and have plenty of coin to spare.

From Football 365 today talking about Schneiderlin:

One thing is for sure, with Arturo Vidal, Sami Khedira (The Sun mention that one today) and Lars Bender also all mentioned in recent times, Arsenal fans are going to be sodding angry when they end up with Abou Diaby starting the first game of the season.

Couldn't agree more.

With Sanogo up front while Giroud is still not fit enough after the long World Cup campaign. I remember one season we started the first game with Eboue at CM having not signed anyone.

Based on current form all of our CB's will be buggered starting the season, as will Ozil, Podolski, Giroud, and Campbell. Scary thought.

Yep, plus Walcott still out and presumably Ox won't be ready. As much as Ramsey deserves to be there, thank heavens Wales didn't qualify. Also shows the value of Arteta (who deservs to have had at least a few caps and would have done if he had played at Arsenal earlier and not spent most of his career at Rangers and Everton). Like Giggs, his career could be significantly extended by being able to have had every single summer off. That adds up to a lot of games over the course of a career.

Looking at our current squad the following should be fit, un-injured and have good pre-seasons under their belts;

Flamini, Gibbs, Monreal, Jenkinson, Ramsey, Arteta, Diaby (irony not missed), Sanogo, Szczesny, Rosicky, Zelalem, Gnabry and Miyaichi
