I'm feeling a bit more positive about signing Beckford.

So:

1. a possible signing (good)
2. an extra fixture - with the possibility of more injuries (not so good)
3. Butt making an appearance (oh well, it was a good season for the first half)

Agree with not wanting to see anymore of Nicky Butt. Would rather Hughton pushed Guthrie into the middle and then played Pancrate, Lovenkrands or Ryan Taylor out wide.

Hopefully we can get Beckford in. This kid has been banging them in for Leeds for seasons. Could do a good job up front for us. Could be difficult to sign now though after todays result.

OK, just seen the draw for FA Cup and league games:

9 Jan Reading (away)
13 Jan Plymouth Argyle (SJP) - FA cup replay
18 Jan WBA (SJP)
23 Jan FA Cup 4th round (WBA away)
27 Jan Crystal Palace (SJP)
30 Jan Leicester (away)

Tres not good. Big distraction from the 6 pointer vs WBA on 18 Jan

See what I mean about worst possible result?  Only the fat man will be happy about it - one more home fixture, and a cup game =

That said, it was the conditions that kept the Pilgrims in the Cup, so the same kind of scratch force can be fielded against them again.  If we bow out, so be it.  If not, then WBA will be just as tired as our lads, and smarting from their defeat at SJP.

Lee Ryder at the Chronicle responded to a question about Beckford's quality during the build-up the Plymouth Argyle match with, "He's 26 and plays in the 3rd Division."  (Then again, Ryder isn't particularly thrilled by the prospect of Boyd moving south either.)

Agree. This month could have a big impact on our chances of promotion.

Glad Geremi me is off, will reduce the wages. Awful signing from Allardyce. Too old.

Looking like we will get Beckford. Hes quick and already got 20 goals this season. Would be a good signing

Hughton has won Mananger of the Month 3 times out of the first 4 months (Aug - Nov).

Wonder if Dec will be his month too - maybe not as the form has started to slip but no lost games in a busy month.

Truly 6 points clear of WBA now, thanks to Nottingham.  Keep on taking from the not-so-rich and giving to us, lads!

Grand result.  Low crowd is due to the **** preparation for inclement weather across the UK.  6 days of salt in reserve?  Guess nobody's taking the road.  Storage for just 16 days of gas?  Guess pensioners will freeze to death in their homes.

Makes Ashley's planning look good.

A true toon legend has returned to NUFC to train and look to pick up a contract.

NOBBY SOLANO!!

Also Northern Rock plc, the new bank that was formed following the restructure of Northern Rock, has signed on to the 2013/14 season as shirt sponsor. Could be worth up to 10 mill.

2-2 with the baggies. Was a fair result in my opinion. Had slow starts to each half which cost us 2 goals. West Brom missed a sitter in the 82nd minute while NUFC were denied a penalty in extra time. Jonas was outstanding.

Can live with that.  Honours shared and no change to points differential.

The Chronicle - which isn't biased in the least - wrote that WBA "looked more like the dirtiest team that had been at St James' Park this season".  Don't really remember the Baggies trying that on against Man U and such last year... but I guess they just felt it was the way to play against a really big team.

We're not that big.  Only Ameobi and Carroll top 1.91 m while at the back Harper and Taylor are 1.88 m

Ollson from West Brom was dirty. Quite a niggly match though. 2-2 suits us alot better though.

This news about the Glazers flogging off Old Trafford has left me a bit out of sorts.

Oh, don't worry too much, it's not sympathy for Man U!  I just couldn't help thinking, "Well, at least Ashley only wants to sell the name."

On a brighter note, if the debt-free clause for European competition goes through, then I confidently predict NUFC to qualify for the Champions League '12 - from 14th place in the EPL.

Forest romped to 5-0 over QPR (bad luck LG!)

WBA drew with the mighty Ipswich

Forest now equal on points but we have two games in hand.

Agree with your take on the FA Cup - promotion is the only focus this season.

Interesting to see no ones commented on the toons latest signing, wayne routledge from QPR. The comments out of England suggest hes excellent when things go his way but horrible when things are not happening for him.

I think he will be good in the championship but will be limited to a squad player if we get promoted.

Glad that Nile scored, though a last-minute goal against a team that couldn't field a full bench isn't that surprising.  (Poor old Palace.  "Sorry, you can't play that lad - he's too good and might get injured.")

Routledge: he's just joined his 8th club in 5 years.  I'm not going to write "enough said", but he's certainly going to have to prove himself.

Still nice to get a win.  Was starting to wonder if the wheels were ready to fall off just over half way through the season.

Still not overly confident that the team can take the league, but not complaining about 1st  place, 3 pts clear and a game in hand!

0-0 against ten men today. Have to criticise Hughtons tactics. One up front and Nicky Butt starting and leaving Jonas on the bench, shocking. At least forest got beat.

disappointed we coulndt beat ten men. now i the time for us to pull away from 3rd place, and dominate. instead we seem to be treading water abit.

i hear the names fitz hall and wayne routledge, and the names befit our position...a good championship club that has battled in the epl the last couple of years

As I always do - both (and have done so since the mid 1970s).  And I don't get angsty at the result between Toon and Spurs.

Toon have held it over Spurs in the last few years except for last season when Toon held nothing over everybody.  Can't see it happening next season unless Cashley does cash up and someone comes in with lots of shekels/roubles/baht/HK$/USd etc etc so that Hughton can add to a good core squad (which will struggle in the EPL if it is unchanged).

Would love to see an FA Cup final between the two - won't happen before i win lotto so that's why the PS2 and FIFA games are so useful!
